Fallout 4 Reviews (mild spoilers)

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:09 pm

Looks like we need a review thread.

(at time of writing the embargo drops in 3 hours)

I find the most useful aggregator site to be OpenCritic and here is their review scores page:

http://opencritic.com/#!game/1508/fallout-4

and there's always Metacritic (though I find the User Reviews section prone to trolls):

PS4: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/fallout-4

XB1: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/fallout-4

PC : http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fallout-4

Game reviews will inevitably contain mild spoilers, so let's not make any spoilers more explicit please than in the reviews themselves.

Let's discuss B)

It's a good site.

I expect when we hit the time (just over two hours)

the dozens of reviews will populate almost instantly.

Metacritic I have issues with for its user reviews.

I have no doubt there will be a flood of 10/10 and 0/10 reviews only moments after official launch

as it welcomes both fan boys and trolls with open arms.

Metacritic I just look at the numbers. Reading reviews there is completely useless since every opinion in the world is represented.

I enjoy reading Polygon and IGN. Although polygon often seems to score games low and IGN has a habit of scoring games too high.. Both have well written reviews of games. So many reviews are just somebody stating one opinion and not offering any other viewpoint.

What company was it that stated that the most important for them is to have high metacritic score? Lol, there was a lot of people tearing them down...

Creative assembly, who make the total war series, stated that they made their games to get a minium of 9.0 on metecritic user reviews....it currently stands at 4.1

Grummite alert! I know a anti-everything-Bethesda http://www.screenloot.com/ps/fl/2440.jpg who's refreshing the metacritic in anticipation, he's going to score a 0/10 as soon as user rating opens.

I'm expecting some 0/10 user scores to hit metacritic within moments.

That triggers 10/10 reaction reviews

and all you get is a fan vs hater fight...

I wouldn't expect to be able to review a game like this personally unless I'd played it some weeks.

Anyway.

20 minutes...

Metacritic's user rating is utterly useless for any kind of major title, the critic aggregate is fine though.

Can we link reviews?

At any rate, The Verge has a review up..No numbers and it started getting spoilery so I stopped reading.

Polygon (9.5) and Gamespots (9.0) reviews are up.

Very positive in my book, and the main complaint seems to be bugs which pretty much means a fantastic game in all other regards. 30 seconds until my update is done and then the wait is over!

Settling around 9/10 average.

Plenty of 9.5's

Outlier at the bottom is Destructoid's 7.5

Looking good so far. 9.5 from IGN. Looks like frame rate issues are the only real problem.

Was scrolling through one review trying to avoid the pictures but saw one that spoiled it for me a bit. Although to be fair it only confirmed what I had speculated to be true.

The trend I'm seeing is great game but a lot of technical issues.

Negative Review Excuses

The reviewer or website…

[ ] Had ulterior motives (just trying togged hits)

[ ] Didn’t play enough (hrs)

[ ] Isn’t good enough at the game (esp video reviews)

[ ] Doesn’t like “Bethesda style” games

[ ] Didn’t experience all of story, do side quests

[ ] Main story doesn’t matter anyway

[ ] Not really a games review site anyway

[ ] Never heard of them

[ ] Wrong character build (esp with difficulty)

[ ] Played game in “wrong style”

[ ] Played on “wrong platform”

[ ] Doesn’t know [thing] from FO3/NV Bonus

[ ] Mod support fixes everything anyway

[ ] User reviews matter more anyway

[ ] Well user reviews are [censored] anyway

[ ] Bethesda games review poorly anyway
