Fallout RTS?

Yup, this idea popped into my mind few days ago. A fallout-based RTS would be nice, there would be missions given by Brotherhood of steel for example, basic stuff. What do you think?

Already done, it's called Fallout: Tactics.

If you are really interested in it you'd probably have to find it in either the Fallout Collection or Fallout Trilogy which also brings Fallout and Fallout 2.

Fallout Tactics is not really an RTS, it's a tactical game.

Hmm. A fallout RTS with todays graphiscs and gameplay engines would be entertaining. It would kinda be like warcraft 3. A few sides fighting eachother, with creatures around the battlefield

Edit:There would have to be, of course, multiple sides to play (Enclave, BOS, Outcasts, Raiders (?))

Edit (Again): As soon as I clicked finish edit, another idea for it came into my head. They could have thier own heros. Like the Enclave, Horrigan. Or BOS, Lyons Pride.

Fallout: Tactics is a cross between an RTS and elements of RPG; the game handles almost exactly like any RTS which excludes micromanagement and resource gathering, for example The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth RTS.

It also has a turn-based mode, though. So it's not exclusively RT.

The Battle for Middle-Earth definitely has resource gathering and micromanagement, those farms weren't there for aesthetics.

Fallout: Tactics is not a strategy game, strategy games are larger in scale. Tactical games are smaller and focus usually on one squad (but sometimes multiple squads), which is exactly what Tactics does. Tactics is a real time/turn based tactical game, not a strategy game.

I doubt this could work as I've dabbled with it before. If you would like to attempt it, remember this:

There is no construction going on. Only the Enclave can set up quick, mobile bases. BoS would have to use "HQ vehicles" to set up small, weak bases. Other then that they can occupy and fortify other buildings and be a defensive faction.

The Enclave will be all about expanding. Quick Vertibird bases set up, troop drops, and the Mobile Crawler. Small squads of weak troops who later become Tesla Clad juggernauts.

The BoS would be all about digging in and tactical operations. Sending out recon armor snipers, creating initially initiates with crappy assault rifle to Knights with laser rifles. Find munitions in the ruins you scour.

The Raiders would be about setting traps and quick assaults. They would call in off-map stuff, and would not have an HQ. They would be all about, SURPRISE, raiding. They can still set up small, mobile camps though, and take some of the lighter armor and weapons off the soldiers they kill, and be the best scavengers in the game by far.

The Super Mutants would be all about numbers. The more the kill, the powerful they become and the more live captives they have to take back to their vats and make new troops. They can gain manpower from killing, and use that to mutate more wastelanders. Like the Raiders, they will take stuff off of their enemies, but only their heavy weapons.

You would be able to take strategic settlements to gain new weapons, armor, and resources to use. Take a trading post, more munitions and manpower. Definitely more weapons for you to use.

Like Steam said

It would be impossible, all races bar the enclave cannot produce vehicles, and they cant produce weapons they just find them, all everyone Bar the enclave would be able to do would just recruit randoms, and make them run at eachother with sharp sticks...

I would like a fallout RTS with at least 3 playable factions

Super Mutants- More powerful than other factions at the start, and builds up to Overlords and Masters with Behemeths as an uber unit.

BoS- Not great at the start, starts with T-45d soldiers and could build themselves up to the T-51b and scavenged Enclave Armors. Lyons pride would be an Uber unit, along side with Liberty Prime.

Enclave- Moderately powerful from the start, starts with Advanced power armored soldiers and can move up to Tesla troops. Hellfire units for heavy weapons, with Vertibirds for transport and their uber units would be Sigma Squad and a Mobile Base crawler with occasional Orbital Strikes, Very powerful endgame.

Just a way it could play out

if there will be a FO RTS it will be a MICRO HEAVY (there is no to much units in the waste)
nor there is many weapon diversity or upgrade options ...

best bet will be on "mission" game type like the old commandos ...

still who will make the RTS, beth? they dont have the experience.

I think the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth:_The_Fallen_Lords approach would work well for a Fallout RTS. Resources are scarce so having a gathering/construction aspect wouldn't make much sense.

The closest you'll get to a current Fallout 3 RTS, would be the Fallout mod, for Hearts of Iron 2.

Well you couldn't have an old-school RTS set in the Fallout universe, as nobody is actively producing structures anymore. It would probably be something similar to Dawn of War 2 or World in Conflict, which eschew base-building and instead focus on capturing and securing resource points and calling in reinforcements from off the map. The problem with Fallout is that no race that could be made would just throw units into a meat-grinder like you would so much grenadiers or Zerglings. I think a remake of Fallout: Tactics would be pretty neat. I haven't played it very much but it seems like a very decent game for its genre. One thing though, the remake would actually have to follow lore. I don't want anymore Brotherhood flying around in zeppelins or other nonsense like that.

I really don't see it. Maybe I'm just not creative enough, but I don't see how it could work in-world.

That's the only way I play it.

I've not reached that part in Tactics, but its an odd peeve... Other than it being rather unwise (given the crafts slow speed and the curious number of working rocket launchers scattered about the wasteland...), I don't see what would be wrong with zeppelins in the FO setting.
(it even seems more plausible than virtibirds ~and especially since the Brotherhood didn't have the plans or means to make and maintain Virtibirds).

I still hold the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0t3paCm21E series as the best RTS I've ever played (closely matched by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAicOEgbQuQ).

Unfortunately, I would think that any strategy game which was combat primary....if you played as the Enclave, you'd have a hell of an advantage over the other powers. Though the New California Republic and the West Coast Brotherhood could field decent sized armies, the rest of the factions....aside from perhaps Dr. Presper, would be at a disadvantage.

There was a Fallout mod for Civ 3 though I don't believe it was based on Fallout 3.
