[BUG] Fallout: Shelter always crashed on loading screen

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 12:14 pm

For me, and I think most of us, since it started crashing it no longer goes as far as the vault selection screen. So, we can't select a vault.

I had been playing for weeks without problems and had a full 200 dwellers in my vault, but yesterday it started spontaneously crashing on the loading screen. The problem is exactly the same as others have described: I open the app, after 4 seconds the screen goes black and then i'm back at the desktop. The app is still running in the background, but regardless of how I try to access it (via, the app store, game center or home screen icon) the result is always the same 4 second loading screen followed by a black screen and a return to the desktop. I'm on an Iphone 5s with ios 8.4 and 7.4gb free

Just another in the Looonnnng line of built vaults with random crashes, until the "day of NON-loading"

I'm actually astounded, I have never made it past 30 dwellers or 8 rooms. Always stops and has to be re-downloaded.

iPhone 5s iOS 8.4 with 5.3GB

It'd be nice if someone official actually responded with anything (we know it's a problem, we're working on it, etc). So far silence which is frustrating

Dear Bethesda,

I have played Fallout Shelter every day since it was available with zero issues. Suddenly, today, I can't open the app. The black & white Fallout Shelter screen starts but it crashes immediately. I have restarted the iPad, and have turned it off completely, with no improvement.

I have not uninstalled the app and reinstalled it because I'm afraid of losing my progress (200 Dwellers, $40 spent on lunch boxes).

Device details:

iPad Air 2

128GB

18GB free

Latest iOS

Thank you.

Don

I have the same issue too

I recently bought a Ipad Mini and started playing Fallout Shelter its been running ok with a few crashes here and there nothing serious as I could just load it back up and carry on my day, but starting today I just hit 46 Dwellers and now every time I try opening that vault it crashes back to the main screen.

I made a new vault to see if it may just be my Ipad but that one loads up fine..

my 2nd vault just started doing the same thing.. =/ but this time at 53 dwellers D: im on my 3rd one now too... to see how far I get hoping on the 13th August when they have the Andriod one version coming out so I assume there will be a patch then and hopefully it will fix the issue. (I am really hoping it does..)

Its sad because I really like this game.

Same problem. Just bought a new ipad mini, have the latest OS and have dropped money on lunch boxes and at this point I wish I could get that cash back because my complete inability to open my vaults has cost me _real money_. I try to open it, and boom right after the title screen it crashes.

I love the game, but I can't get my vaults. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing else is running on my ipad, reset it and everything.

Crash when loading vault with ~60 dwellers and if the game actually loads it randomly crashes during play..

Ipod touch 5

iOS 8.4 (Both types of crashes observed)

iOS 9 beta 1 (Both types of crashes observed)

iOS 9 beta 2 (Both types of crashes observed)

iOS 9 beta 3 (Crash while loading vault, unable to test further)

I will also try the posted potential work around which is as follows:

reboot device

launch fallout shelter

load vault

hit home button to return to device home screen

select fallout shelter again

Once tested I will update this post.

All evidence points towards a memory management issue. The game is good but would be better if it was reliably playable....

Edit: This game is broken. The work around does not work for me.

This work around doesn't work for me. It still crashes before I get to the vault selection screen.

I have a full 200 person shelter. I haven't been able to play for a month. Those two guys I had running around the wasteland probably have a ton of loot by now, but no doubt they're dead too. :-(

Please, Bethesda, please.

I can confirm, the work around does nothing.

Been a while since the last update but still no fix on this crashing issue?!?

My game hasn't been able to load up for weeks now but I refuse to delete and redownload it because I spent money on the app, had over 100 dwellers but it's pissing me off because this issue hasn't been fixed for a while now and the thing is lots and lots of people are having this issue, I mean why haven't they fixed it, we the people are telling them how to improve the game for the user but they're not even doing anything about it and if they are they're taking their time.

Fix this issue Bethesda!!!!

I'm adding my voice (for what it's worth) to this topic. My game crashed after a raider attack and now won't open at all. It loads for a few seconds then crashes. Like many of you I've bought lunch boxes that I don't want to loose. Hopefully this topic will be regarded.

I'm losing faith that the devs will do anything to fix this glaring problem. I still can't open either of my vaults. I got lucky once, but that was it. :/

I'm just curious how many of you have contacted Apple for a refund. Seems to me that the best way to get a response from Bethesda is to hit them where it hurts. The way I see it, I gave hem 100% of my money, I want 100% of the promised product. There is no disclaimer that states purchases may or may not work. I've been waiting for them to respond to no avail so I just went to Apple.

Update: 12 hours after contacting Apple Support, I received a full refund. At least Apple is able to respond to their customers. You all need to contact Apple and get refunds. Maybe that will get Bethesda to respond.

Im absolutely fuming, I feel i deserve some kind of refund for wasting my time and money...

Im running on an iphone 6 16gb, the phone is literally brand new..

I've been playing FS on my iPad2 since release. Had the occasional crash but nothing major. In that time I've built up an impressive vault - approximately 150 residents, with around a third with full SPECIAL stats. I'm gutted to report that two days ago the game began crashing on boot up. It gets a second or two in and then goes back to the home screen - i.e. I don't even get to the main menu. I fear a save data corruption and loss of all that effort.

I have tried the usual things - rebooting, hard reset and updating the iOS system software, without improvement. I really hope a future fix will be available, as for now, I can't play at all.

Here are the new release notes

V 1.1 Change Log

To ensure your experience is as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible, Vault-Tec engineers have implemented some exiting new features!

  • Overseers should be on the lookout for new threats to their Vault Dwellers. Some Vaults have reported attacks by burrowing Mole Rats and enraged Deathclaws – likely attracted by the sound of new construction.

  • Vault-Tec has partnered with General Atomics International in order to offer Overseers their very own robot butler – the Mister Handy! Now you lazier Overseers have a friendly, entertaining alternative to tapping and collecting resources. (Crumpets not included.)

  • Our engineers clearly underestimated the, *ahem*, usefulness of living quarters to stimulate Vault growth, resulting is gross overpopulation and decreased Vault efficiency. Rest assured, the simulation has been adjusted, and Vaults of all shapes and sizes should now run more smoothly.

  • Not content with stealing your Vault’s resources, some rather enterprising Raiders have now resorted to stealing Caps as well. (If you haven’t armed your Vault Dwellers yet, now’s the time!)

  • As Vault-Tec does not approve of the use of unsanctioned levitation technology, all Vault Dwellers that were found floating through the air have been grounded. Permanently.

  • Some of the more difficult daily objective requirements have been adjusted to more obtainable levels. You’re welcome.

  • Continued general maintenance to the Vault simulation. Because an efficient machine is a happy machine!

Same issue here.. battery died whilst the app was still open. I've made an account just to add my voice to the crowd. 107 dwellers and about £60 of lunch boxes + Mr. Handy's. Now I can't get past the second loading screen, like everyone else it just chucks me out back to my home screen. I didn't realise this has been an ongoing issue across Android and IOS devices and now i can't believe the devs haven't responded properly to the mass amount of complaints. I'm just totally gutted along with you all with this issue, I really enjoy Fallout Shelter and feel cheated by this stupid bug.. Hopefully we'll at least get compensation for the money we've spent even if we lose the time spent on our vaults. Please post if anyone hears anything new about an actual fix or a new response from Beth's dev team.
