Fallout 3 or Skyrim?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:03 pm

Fallout 3? Seriously? The worst story ever. Bethesda got a ready background for fallout 1 and 2 and created a bloody disgrace to the series Fallout 3.

Fallout New Vegas was far better. Due to one fact: story has been written by former Interplay concept writer.

skyrim man skyrim
i played the heck out of fallout 3 when it first came out, but it doesn't hold a candle to skyrim. the atmosphere is kind of depressing, skyrim's atmosphere is just dark enough.

this is where bethesda just blows away so many other games, there's a lot to do, tons of good situations and places to explore,

I agree Bethesda has their "world building" down pat, they are top notch in what they do. I am presently playing Deus Ex Human Revolution atm. While I know Deus Ex is a RPG/First person shooter, it just feels weird going into an office and only being able to open ONE desk drawer. Am used to the freedom of Bethesda games where I can literally interact with every single object, Bethesda games spoiled me in that regard, haha

i never understood the hype on fallout 3. for me it is easily one of the most overrated games, and only playable because of combat.

Skyrim, but just barely. Until Skyrim came out FO3 was my favorite game, I put 1000+ hours into it (360 no mods) over 30 characters, it was simply amazing. I can see myself doing the dame with Skyrim.

Fallout 3 was sort of a revelatory experience for me that was led me to start playing RPG's, but I think I might like Skyrim just a bit more.

Agree with this - this is me....good post.

Fallout 1 and 2 are extremely different games from 3. Fallout 3 is pretty much oblivion 2, it kept little of what made the first 2 so great.

Fallout 3 was great, however for exploration I'll opt for Skyrim, after 400 hours in fallout 3 the scenery started to become depressing, with Skyrim the scenery is more varied and colourful despite it's darker than Oblivion atmosphere.

Even though I love Beth, strangely I've never played any Fallout game. What could sum up Fallout? Is there something that no other game has? Maybe I should give it a try.

Overall Skyrim is better but Fallout 3 had more interesting locations. In fallout 3 I played one character until I basically explored everything unlike Skyrim where I'm more interested in re-rolling than exploration. I don't know why is that, perhaps I grew tired of all the caves and dungeons and there's pretty much nothing interesting left for me to see outside.

FNV is out of the league. It's different and you can tell it's not Bethesda's game. Finished it once when it was released and never looked back, god forbid wasting money on DLCs.

It's good, but make sure you get all the patches, I remember it's initial release being worse than Skyrim for crashes and freezes.

I prefer the Fallout series to the Elder Scrolls series, but FO3 isn't better than Skyrim.

This ^ I'm a really devoted Fallout really devoted fan at heart - love love love the retro, dieselpunk aesthetic. However, I'm enthralled with Skyrim and cannot wait an arrival of a Fallout based in this engine - I'd want a PIP Boy back though for item management. I will admit this: I like the leveling in Skyrim MUCH better than FO3/NV. It just flows better and makes more sense to me to improve at something by actually doing it

Fallout [NEW VEGAS] is slightly better than Skyrim. I think Fallout 3 is rated higher because of how groundbreaking it was when the game was first released back in 2008. You can still go back and play that game and have a blast, same with New Vegas. I'm really hoping Beth is now working on Fallout 4 :fallout:

Skyrim and FO3 are not original games.

As for the games in general, i would say FO3 had a much better storyline. Skyrim's main quest was very predictable and even felt lazy. It started off well enough, but toward the middle and especially the end, it felt rushed, with little thought going into it, and in a very predictable "good guy wins with no damaged anything" way. At least in Oblivion

Spoiler

Martin dies, that was completely unexpected.

Fallout 3 brought me into the world of RPG's and Fallout: New Vegas only helped in exciting me for this new genre I found myself interested in. So I'm going to have to say Fallout 3. If it wasn't for Fallout 3 I wouldn't be playing Skyrim right now. Also it made me fall in love with the Fallout universe in such a way that I began to read up on everything I possibly could, such as what Skyrim is doing for me with the Elder Scrolls. Yes Skyrim is my first TES game.

I'd say Fallout 3 is better then NV or Skyrim, primarily because Fallout 3 doesn't feel like a broken game whereas NV and skyrim do. Fallout 3 didn't need "re-balancing" to balance two different forms of combat where one was near useless.

NV had the best storyline, a fantastic and a more dynamic storyline with better implementation of factions/etc but else wise it's just FO 3 repackaged and it still had some of FO 3's zero day bugs/glitches which was a bit inexcusable, overall I think FO3 had better quests like tranquility lane and blow-up megaton. Also the fact you could rather literally skip half of the main quest line and the game was fine with it was another awesome thing, you just had to know where to go which you'd only know if you had already beat the game once.

Skyrim has the best gameplay and graphics, but by far the worst storyline and the quest lines do not have the pull that FO3s and NVs had.

The perks on all 3 are good but with FO3 and NV the perks were in my opinion better, Skyrim's perk trees are better then the flat interface that FO3 and NV had but Skyrim's perks themselves just aren't very well fought out. Also SPECIAL gave just basic humans more uniqueness against other humans then all 10 races have in Skyrim. That Said I believe it was possible to get 10 in every attribute in FO3 and 100 in every skill, tho it wasn't easy, requires a lot of work and really wasn't meant to be done.

EDIT:

lol fallout 3 is like RPG lite, you should play some baldur's gate or morrowind.

Fallout 3 might not be the most RPG of RPGs but the RPG elements around the storyline itself were more flexible and played out better then the quests in Skyrim just due to having a morality system. In Fallout 3 you could be a badass or you could be a hero/heroin and you decided that. Skyrim you do the MQ... kinda neutral/good, College of Winterhold, kinda neutral, Civil War again morality wise only neutral, Thieves guild neutral/evil and Dark brotherhood is kinda evil. So in fallout 3 you made decisions and you faced the consequences of those actions which is more RPG-like then what skyrim has in terms of storyline.

I already have, I never took an interest in RPG's until Fallout, hell I didn't even know what it meant until Fallout. And Fallout 3 was just a Christmas present I wasn't even that excited about until I started playing it.
