That's a good point. Skyrim was often described as being the RPG that hit with a lot of people who wouldn't normally play an RPG. Like you say, now with Fallout 4 we have tech and guns, as in not a medieval type setting, more of a focus on FPS gameplay, building which is like the hot feature of gaming today. You could kinda say it's a continuation of what Skyrim did.
Of course this can also be a very dangerous road, leading to a Fallout 5 which is barely an RPG. At least then diehard Fallout 1 & 2 fans can retire and relax, giving up completely, and let the Fallout 3/NV/4 fans take up the campaign of complaining about how their game has been ruined .
