I'm far less concerned with what engines they end up using; than with what they do with what they do use. It still comes down to the particular strengths and weaknesses of those developing the game. A... "better" engine isn't automatically going to give any game better graphics, better implementation of realistic physics, or make a better game overall.

I agree with you nu_clear, I will never understand this wide obssession there is with having new engine every time a new game is developed; it is ridiculous. I can't be upgrading my computer with a new vid card and scores of RAM whenever a new sequel comes out, so perhaps I'm a bit biased on the opinion, but overall I think that it isn't prudent, necessary nor rational in and of itself to have a new engine in every single new game.

Frankly I would much rather that they stabilize their current engine and learn how to use it so that there are far less bugs than begin to us a new prototype or borrow some other new game's engine that will just introduce brand new bugs and instability throughout. And as nu_clear said, a new engine hardly is any evidence of having a good game at all, some of the prettiest looking games I've seen were absolute crap.

I think that the dev team should concentrate instead focus on 2 things:

1) Applying more RPG elements back into the gameplay to balance that out with the previous action introduced in F3. I want a choice and consequence system re-implemented so that the game again reflects numerous outcomes for quests/characters/towns and cities/endgame/Player based on the choices I made throughout the game. I also want to see multiple paths to resolving a quest reintroduced. Basically I want Fallout 4 to offer variety.

2) Focus on story and characters. One of the most important aspects of an RPG to me is its story and characters. I want to see people have more motivations and living out deeper existences than the extent of the quests they give me. I want characters to be layered and complex. I want instances where I will actually have to ponder the decisions I am making because it will not be black or white, very much the way I felt over the final decision in The Pitt. While the main quest will likely be epic and cliched as in any other game, I want to see more than just fetch this and kill that quests; I hope to see true struggles between the wasteland factions, politics and intrigue that extend beyond only having: Kill Enclave in Adams AFB, kill Enclave on some oil rig or kill Master in some underground base.

Course I'm not expecting any of this, so I'd settle for a pretty bug free game which is in the least fun and interesting to play with an occasional surprise or two. But I do hope to see some of what I mentioned above to at least some extent...

I'd like to see some quests that are more "epic" rather then "go get this and kill that" like in point lookout when the mansion explodes, I jumped out of my chair. And I'm really tired of the same super mutant or raider over and over, I'd like to see some boss type enemies, and not just a super mutant with a name and some extra health. I.E. a giant radscoprion the size of a behemoth in some cave with spikes and eggs on its back rather then the normal model of a radscorpion with some extra hp

I'm sure creating and adding another character model to a game takes alot of time, but enough to cut any truly unique enemies from a game?

and also it seems like megaton is perfectly safe and has enough food and has nothing to worry about, I'd like to see a raider attack or something, this is a wasteland after all but megaton seems to have plenty of resources and no threats from any faction or enemie

and please for the love of god can we get some weather? at least some rain or a dust storm or something

I have a scenario were a giant radscoprion(like the one I talked about above) attacks megaton(could be a quest, therefore adding that "wow" factor I talked about) and you have to either run or fight it each option leading into a deeper quest series.

And why is it that your choices are always laid out and you have to choose between either one? there should be more freewill like what does the player want to happen? can the player influence people to get what he wants(making the speech skill more useful then just "I want more money") and in turn influencing the game world

raider attacks on established communities would be nice.. littel bit of random aside fromt eh few and far random encounters taht occour out in the middle of nowhere.

another note. has anyone seen the shots of Rage? Anyone think that since zinemax owns IS now, theyll be using the tech 5 engine isntead of havoc?

I'm hoping to get fallout: NV and FO4 on my computer as I've been playing fallout 3 on an 360(which causes alot of glitches) so if they decided to go with a engine on a level with the crysis games then I'd be screwed because thats way out of my budget to fix up my computer

Well you can expect games to become more demanding from here on out. If you couldn't run Fallout 3 then I doubt Fallout 4 will be any better.

No one has played RAGE so wouldn't know how "well it is." Don't judge an engine based on screenshots of one game.

hint: Conviction uses a modified version of Unreal 2.5, as does Bioshock (though it uses certain assets from Unreal 3.0)

ok.. well not just the shots.. but the trailers ive sqeen look better.. the curves int eh game and the character models are much better looking.. i know theyre probably using super fast computers for all of that and some comes down to the artists and programmers regardless of engine.. but it just flat out looks better... moot i know.. im just wondering if theyre gonna use it for F4 since they possibly can now.... .
dont stifle my wonderment!

Also, I miss the turbo plasma rifle. That's just me. Love the repair mechanic in F3, but I also miss upgradable weapons.

I agree I wish to see a comeback for the Turbo Plasma Rifle. I so loved it in PS2 brotherhood of steel. They even made ist look like the orriginal Fallout 1&2 version. Good times were had :)

Hey all, this is my first post :)

I actually found Fallout 3 amazing. With the ability to make your own character, the great atmosphere,... just amazing. There are a few things, however, that I would change for Fallout 4. First of all, I don't understand why you can't join the Enclave. I know they are the "bad Guys", but still, I would have liked to help lead the Enclave to victory with President Eden in broken steel, and crush the Brotherhood of steel. (I actually am, with help from mods). I would like to see joining the enclave in fallout 4 as a choice (assuming they are in).

Secondly, I hope fallout 4 will have better animations. Fallout 3 seemed too "rigid" to me and un-realistic. That, and when i walked in 1st person view the screen stood perfectly still (i felt like i was floating). Look at Arma 2 and their 1st person head bobbing animation. It would make the game a lot better looking.

Cheers,

Have no doubt that they do, and the listen to the forum's via the moderators. When something really good comes up, they forward it to the devs. In a way this allows the moderators to harvest all the best commentary from the forums so that the devs don't have to spend all day reading through the rest of the gargabe we post. :)

I'm sure some still read the forums directly, but I would bet not too many - these forums are chocked-full of ungrateful people that slam their work all day long - and really get tired of it very fast. How the moderators can keep reading the bad stuff day after day, month after month, and still enjoy the work gives me alot of respect for them.

But have no doubt, they listen and they learn. Its never as Fast as we would like, but that is the nature of software project development - especially when a big team of people is involved. If we find a major bug, and they decide they want to fix it, they have to plan-out the LOE on how long it will take, schedule the work as part of a release, do the code, merge it with everyone else's code, have it tested in QA, etc, etc. Its not a short-track to get changes put into a release.

Considering Bethesda took gamers' complaints to heart and released a DLC that increased the level cap & changed the original game ending, I'd say: "No worries!"

I found most of the new voice acting and dialogue (the main story was a bit meh, still good, but other then that...) in Broken Steel pretty good. Scribe Bigsley is definitely one of the best written characters in the game.

there were some rumors flying around about the next generation of consoles were coming around 2012-2013, considering they got NV on the way with a possible new elder scrolls in developement, I'm guessing fallout 4 will be released on the next new consoles(if FO4 is gonna be released on consoles at all)

that could be true for F4 being on next gen.. i dont think they will go to PC only though.. a lot of moeny to lose out on by shutting the majority of gamers out..

ya im sure it will be, but im still gonna be fixing my computer up until then

I was reading about the Great War on the vault wiki and how it caused earth to be in an endless summer which is kinda just a way to avoid creating weather affects

i really hope they dont imply this lame reason in the next game and actually give us some rain or something

In fallout 3 did anyone ever really feel threatened by radiation? it never really seemed to be a problem with me and I play on very hard. they need to redo the radiation mechanic at least a bit for fallout 4.

This has to be my biggest pet peeve with fallout 3

your at lvl 30, you have the best weapons and armor, your have 10,000 caps, enough ammo to supply china, and all of your skills are maxed. so that character is pretty much done? kinda ticks me off that theres no mechanic at level that lets you create a town or manage a merc group etc etc

idk the idea is in my mind and still being worked a bit :coolvaultboy:

well rohugh just closed my mount poll so i guess ill say it here

did anyone notice the abundance of apparently non damaged motorcycles in fallout 3?

here are my ideas for mounts in fallout 4

motorcycle
salvaged car or truck
steed (rideable creatures)

if beth is gonna increase the map size then its only natural to include mounts
