Fallout 4 Speculation, Ideas and Suggestions # 262

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 6:20 am

By the precedent set by Fallout 3, the general quality of the assets used in the trailer, and the fact that Bethesda is itching to show off the graphics in its game?

I hope that's not it. I always liked the theory that D.C. got hit so bad, it couldn't support life for decades.

Well, I mean, it getting hit so bad would be why its that messed up to begin with, and why the water is as toxic as it is even 200 years later. Obviously the nation's capitol would be one of the hardest hit areas in the country, if not for taking out political leaders, then for the demoralizing effect of the destruction of major national icons.

But I dont think they need the "no life for decades" thing for it to work.

IIRC, the guy in the Dunwich building has a note talking about a time so soon after the war he didn't know what ghouls are, so that always seemed to indicate to me life was there even shortly after the bombs.

I remember them stating it, and I read the last three threads this morning. I recall your post to that effect.

**It just occurred to me that the could be running a screenspace shader to make it pastel shaded and washed out for the teaser. :chaos:

Rumor on the net is the PC was in the army, placed in cryonic sleep in Vault 111. That's why its the same guy many years later, thats why the Vault door is different.

The vault door isn't different.

Its the exact same kind as in Fo3 and NV, the trailer even shows it with a horizontal opening. If you look more closely, the "gear door" in the surface isn't the same as the vault door, and the PC seems to be coming UP out of it, like hes on an elevator.

What we see up there is most likely a secondary door to protect the shaft leading to the vault proper.

Shouldn't they all be the same? Why would that change from one game to the next?

No, for the same reason some vaults were built into caves, and others, such as Vault 22, had their main door exposed to the outside.

lol actually, when I saw the trailer, I was like "that can't be the graphics." I imagine they will look much better upon release, plus the trailer might have been low-resolution, which I think was the biggest problem. I know for a fact after seeing the Witcher III, that the PS4 can handle better looking games than what we saw on the trailer, so I know it's not a hardware problem.

-shrugs- the graphics look fine to me. I just loved how colorful it seemed.

I'm just hoping that with the way those ghouls moved in the trailer, that it's a sign the movement mechanics have greatly been updated. They're no longer just some weak strafing to the left and right, back and forth. The PC and NPCs shouldn't look and feel so mechanical anymore.

And not sure if anyone said this already, but speaking of those ghouls, did they seem to move like the mutants from RAGE, to anyone else, and kind of look like them? Perhaps the engine used in F4 is an updated id Tech 5 engine? They used it for The Evil Within.

Yeah....I don't know, I'd like to see how it's implemented first before I decide.

On a scale of 0-10, I wonder what they will do with Boston accents. (a CNN news anchor being 0 and Peter Griffin being 10.)

I'll have to watch it again, but to me it looked slightly better than Skyrim, which came out about five years ago I think. It's not a big deal or anything though. I just finished New Vegas, and the graphics weren't too hot, but the game still managed to svck me in anyway, which might be the case with Fallout 4, but with this being a new release for next-gen systems as well as the new hardware available for the PC, I'd like to see them take advantage of that.

Sounded a lot like Troy Baker. You don't recruit someone of his stature for a couple of filler lines. The possibility of a voiced PC is pretty real.

I agree they looked similar, but they also kinda look like draugr, so I wouldn't say they are using the same tech as rage, only evolving off of what they did before.

I mean, it seemed rather obvious to me that the Draugr models used the Fo3/NV ghoul model as a base, with some changes ofc.

I do have to say, the art-direction of this game looks incredible though, definitely a step up from Fallout 3, seems almost Metroish.

Oh man I wasn't able to access the forums here for a few minutes since I guess the servers are taking a pounding.

In the Fallout subreddits there's thousands of people active. The entire internet is on fire with hype, its amazing. I just can't wait until I see the actual gameplay at E3. My head is spinning with what kind of character I want to make. That garage with the power armour looks so much like a player home base. If we're building our own power suit, I may just abandon the long-coated pistolero and go for a science hero hoarding technology.

Hot damn. This is amazing.

Haven't seen you around in forever. Looks like the news of Fallout 4 is (unsurprisingly) bringing some activity back into the forums. :disguise:

In regards to the voiced player character, someone in another thread suggested that this talking vault dweller could simply be a main character in the game, and not the actual PC. If that's the case, that sounds good to me, if not rather interesting.

Yes, but the Draugr in Skyrim didn't move as fluidly as the mutants in Rage did. They did take after the Fo3/NV ghoul models. So compared to the Draugr movements in Skyrim and the mutants in Rage, the ghouls in F4 seem to take after Rage a lot more. You just have to watch a Rage video and that segment in the F4 trailer, to see they're very similar compared to Skyrim. Which is why I'm thinking they're using the id Tech 5 or some offshoot, in this Fallout edition, instead of Creation/Havok engines for it.

I didn't mind it so much myself. It did, because of how they moved, give me hope that the movement mechanics are better and more fluid.

Maybe we'll get to play as the dog, and he's our owner. Every post apoc movie or game seems to feature a dog. I say it's time we got to see what that feels like.

:disguise: indeed.

That scenario actually sounds interesting and would rather they go that route. But that;s just my optimism talking. If our protagonist is indeed voiced I'll get over it eventually, may even begin to like it.

Idea and suggestion of tools. Hammers, screwdrivers, pry bars and such. I don't know why this topic has gone to graphics, it's next gen only, we get what they give us.
