I'm sure there must be people with mental disorders or damage that no longer have a conscience are they still human?

ummm. You might want to brush up on your brain knowledge ;)

It's not as simple as A->B thus B->C

But again, Bethesda could BS it real well. After all, it is just a game :)

It's hard to tell when you're human whether a robot wants to run away because something is threatening its well-being. If there is a god (or ancient extraterrestrial creator) then he might see that the way we think as imitation to his own way of thinking. So you can argue that our "programs" is our DNA.

Haven't heard of those. If you could provide a link I'd love to read.

Yes, but only in the metaphorical / anology sense. The essence of the human character is something that cannot be simply burned onto a disc. It's far more complicated than that

I think you can somehow force and train yourself to NOT have a conscience (as in the ability to tell "rights" from "wrongs") by justifying to yourself ,or go with the flow and have fun with it. Or is that just me being a sociopath? :P

Okay that is some damning evidence against the Twitter and Tumblr. So the only thing left is survivor2299. Which was pointed out to never have been proven to be associated with the other two sites. So there is a slim but far less likely chance this is legit.

Hmmmm so it seems this might actually be a troll. I hope we get to the bottom of the main site soon enough.

How?

Isn't everything quantifiable?

Geez I've seen studies where they measure the neurological impulses of iphone fans and show them apple products and they have the same compassion/positive reaction as seeing pictures of family (I can't be bothered hunting links down but it should be easy to find these studies).

Yes. Instead, those criminals have a rather inverted conscience in which activities that would normally disgust you and me (killing, dismembering, harassing) bring pleasure to them. They are incapable of remorse because they see no wrong in what they did. I love playing games. Imagine a society where video games were akin to murder. People would say I have no remorse because I love playing video games. And by their definition of "right" and "wrong", they would be correct. This does not mean I lack a conscience.

Haha. Try telling a physicist that everything is quantifiable and he'll stare at you as if you have three heads.

There is a theory that I subscribe to that a humans idea of right and wrong and how he acts is dependent on the environment that he finds himself in and his previous experiences relating to his current situation.

That makes a lot of sense when you look at history, there is no real "Right" or "Wrong" intrinsic to humans, it depends on the society they are a part of. Ancient Spartans probably had little objections to the massive enslavement that their society existed on. Or to bring it back to Fallout, im sure that the average Legionnarie of Caesars Legion thinks his work is the most righteous thing in the world.

This isn't a theory, this is fact. It all depends on one's outside pressures (ie society, family, religion).

How a human would behave with absolutely no outside influences is what interests me.

Bloody hell this thing moves fast. Too fast for people who post as slowly as me.

That post about the tumblr being fake is a bit sketchy for me, since because HE himself wasnt able to contact a active youtuber, doesnt mean that Bethesdas lawyer team couldnt fly to his house in the fully functional vertibirds they have stored just outside of town.

Er...I guess the last bit of that is a bit unlikely, but the point still remains!

I think completely no outside influence is completely impossible, even if you were raised alone by a non-sentient AI that just dispensed food you would still probably walk out into the wasteland and try giving a rogue brainbot a loving hug before getting turned into ash.

I'm by no means a qualified physicist and I suppose this is more a case of philosophy but I believe things that we can't quantified today like why do electrons appear in multiple places to just be unsolved problems, in the same way scientist in the 40's couldn't figure out why planets were orbiting suns or random areas of space at extremely high speeds and awkward orbits but it was because they had no idea what black holes where.

I mean using the Doppler effect we can figure out a planets chemical composition without ever going there.

I saw something on discovery like this. A young girl was neglected for 9 years in a single room, she couldn't talk, walk and other social and normal human actions. Very sad.

Then what's your take on conciousness? Given that you're a neuroscience major?

Scientists rejected the quantum conciousness theory (which said that there is an undivided wholeness and implicate order, which araises an explicate order to the universe) as pseudoscience.

It's just funny how scientists completely reject every theory that resembles order and optimism, while plunging head first into chaos and uncertainty and look for evidence to justify that chaos and uncertainty.

I think its clear that its fake if it has been ripped off youtube.. Its such a silly thing to do. Bethesda would never rip anything off of youtube, or at least thats what I believe.

Yeah thats kind of the thing about science, there is always the sword of damocles overhead that says that there's a possibility that the universe runs on tea kettles that are visible only past the sub-atomic level, but that human science isnt quite advanced enough to fully understand what is going on.

This is getting really off topic though, so uh, how about them big irons on your hip? :P
