Fallout 4 Speculation Suggestions and Ideas #154

Post » Sun Nov 17, 2013 7:13 am

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in this thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

Has the Tumblr/Twitter been updated recently? Mine is being uncooperative. I see a picture with mostly visible text, can't make out the words, though. Can anyone clarify please?

Edit: picture is here

John Henry Eden:I agree about andriods and the railroad but as for the whole "ACTUAL human being" I don't see anything that andriods or technology can't do to essentially recreate humans or intelligence. If I had all of my personality and genetics and thought patterns stored on a harddrive rather than my brain (presuming it was possible) I would still be human imo.Or at the very least I feel I should be considered on a level the same as humans.

There is no physical way to transplant the human conscience. In effect, you would be creating a super sim. The android would merely "simulate" human behavior. You can transfer the anticipated human reactions to a hard drive, but the our conscience in the hypothalamus and other non-tangible factors such as guilt in the limbic system are a scientific improbability to carry over to a bunch of wires. That is why a robot will never be a human equivalent.

Transporting the entire brain to a robot's body is completely different. But that isn't the same as an android.

Just out of curiosity. would it be OK if "thesurvivor2299" situation got it's own thread? I mean i was skimming the last 2 threads and some people tried to speculate, but everyone was talking about the rumor. I mean I feel like something this big should have it's own thread.

I agree. There should be an entire "Rumor" thread. No one posted anything Fallout 4 game related today, other than dissecting the plausibility of the website being true.

That's what I'm sayin, This is like the biggest "news" we've gotten in awhile. Didn't the Boston rumor get it's own thread to? just curious. And I'm hoping for a mod to answer to see if it's OK or not.

You wouldn't have to store the brain essentially in a robot just the genetic code and the memory within them and as complex as emotions seem they are quantifiable like love or the emotion of it being on par with winning 250 thousand dollars in-terms of happiness(was on a youtube channel called Vsauce).

Does anybody know how long before Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas were released they created their corresponding boards here on the forums?

Haha well if Vsauce is the most credible thing in the world then a lot of things would be possible.

I'm a neuroscience major, so that's why I'm so nit picky about this sort of stuff :bonk: And if there's anything I can tell you about the plausibility of a "human" robot, it's:

No, true emotions cannot be performed, but can be simulated via a program which deems situations where a human would likely display emotion and carry those out accordingly.

By "genetic code" I'm assuming you mean transplanting the portions of the brain responsible for complex behaviour into a chip...which is impossible because emotions require an organic medium to function.

Essentially what you COULD argue for is a combination of organic and genetically-encoded regions to serve as a "brain", but that would not be considered an android anymore.

As far as I remember shortly after the official announcement with a general section. The other sections where made after the release of the coresponding item (Spoiler section after game release, DLC, Geck, ...).

I'd guess when they where announced  like i'd expect fallout 4's sub forum to be opened in the same circumstances.

Not sure about Fallout 3 but New Vegas got it's own board sometime shortly after being announced. It only had the General Discussion sub-board, none of the others.

Aren't the brain a computer? So are you saying that an organic "soul" exists? Wha... :bonk:

And what if an android is "detailed" enough to become a sufficient organic medium... It basically just lacks that... "spark"?

But then again this is Fallout science. Where high radiation make people immortal.

But what's really the difference from a simulation and being performed in this context?

In the same way lines of code will direct operations in fallout 3 when you press the button to activate the pip-boy it's just a command from some lines of text.In the same way if I see a lion I will be tempted to run because of evolution manipulating my genetics to tell me to run so I don't die it's essentially just reading from "code".

No, the brain is not a literal computer, as the myth likes to state...

And the "soul" you're referring to is, I'm assuming, your conscience. Yes, that exists in the gray matter of the brain, and not in wires or metal. I'm sure Beth could get away with it though. After all, eating 200 year old irradiated apples is considered healthy :P

Because what defines a human is its conscience, its essence, what some people refer to as your "soul". A complex robot that can imitate all of those actions is no more human than a fictional book character.

Do you think Zimmerman was in the right to take back his property, then?

Not saying you're wrong or anything, I just never met someone who actually had that POV on the androids in Fallout. It's interesting.

I mean a computer is just a calculator which solves basic maths calculations.Doesn't our brain just perform calculations in a similar manner?Like if you spin really fast your brain thinks you have been poisoned because it can't understand what's going on so it sends impulses to your stomach to make you vomit.

More evidence against the Tumblr being legit. The countdown can still be completely real however.
