Fallout 4 Speculation Suggestions and Ideas #163

Post » Wed Nov 27, 2013 4:52 am

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in athis thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

FO4 should be set in the CW with Lyons BOS, the Enclave and SMs. Again. But this time Project Purity should be a space station/orbital weapon that shoots fresh water into the mouths of the inhabitants of the Wastes with laser accuracy (heh).

A little off topic, but is there any way the moderators could set up a locked "FAQ", or "what we know so far"
thread? These threads are moving too fast to keep up with and read for new info.

According to Reddit, New Vegas got a patch today, don't know if it is true or relevant.

Quoting Sesom from last thread

Pretty much what I've been thinking and if you look at the timeline here http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline#2077; "October 30: A week after the initial blast, a black rain begins to fall. The source of the black rain was the massive amounts of radioactive particle debris (mainly soot) from the nuclear firestorm a week earlier. Plants and animals both go rapidly into extinction"

Although, the source link for the text is incorrect and instead references to next November mark on the timeline, so the actual source for the October 30 edit is hazy... Still, it's there

If it has, it hasn't arrived here. My game still shows version 1.4.525.

If the game is set in"boston" as some believe does anyone how their metro system is? is it large? Bigger than D.C.'s in real life?

I'd still like them to take a page from the original Fallout's skillbar and examine feature and point'n click adventures action lists, and implement straightforward player initiated (if he/she figures it out to try) skill use on items, objects in the world, and NPC's with text explanations on what is found out/what happens.

This could include (for a couple of examples):

-- Healing (doctor skill) - examine the patient (or yourself) and possibly (if the skillcheck passes) find out helpful information about the ailment which could make healing easier, try blind and possibly do more harm;

-- Identifying plants and animal parts (outdoorsman/survival) as to how safe they are to handle, it might be a mutated nettles that, if just blindly picked up, might give your hands a nasty rash that will affect negatively everything you do with hands until treated.

-- Noticing missing parts (repair/science) in a contraption that, if obtained, will make repair/assembly easier.

-- Notcing a crack in the wall (Perception) - highlighting the object if a check passes, not showing at all if the check does not pass - that looks weak, and might be able to be blown up to reveal something behind; and knowing the right dosage (explosives) of TNT would get the job done (otherwise, the roof might collapse and you'd never see what was behind).

-- Being able to - if noticed - lift heavy objects (Strength) from where ever such might be needed.

The possibilities are endless; from simple tasks like above to opening new ways to solve quests and even narrative arcs (all depending on the character build - and of course, to such degree, that if the character does not know about it through his abilities, the players possible metaknowledge - eg. a subsequent runthrough - would not help the situation). I would think something like this would - if done with care, and not undermining the player intelligence of finding these things out himself; the player need not be spoonfed like is often the case now where all options and their successrates are shown - add a great deal of gameplay depth and sense of discovery.

Could the games engin handle a moving vehicle over such an expansive area?

Feel free as a community to collect what you would like saved to every thread and take responsibility for making it the second post after we post a new one. I don't think it's a good idea for us to make a thread that gathers such information/misinformation. We sort of learned that lesson when we allowed a pinned and locked FAQ for Oblivion prior to it's release that many, many fans took to be the gospel and/or fact and were then very angry when the game was released and the fan based FAQ or "what they thought they knew" was not included in the game. So we don't do that anymore.

Well, we should start by having a link to the http://thesurvivor2299.com/ site of much speculation and hype.

I would also recommend adding http://runslow.com/thesurvivor.html that monitors the Survivor site for any changes/updates, seen or even unseen.

Do you have any more info? Steam has patched anything on my end. If there was some sort of ARG thing happening in New Vegas (Like Portal 2's ARG) that would be really weird.

Edit: First post on the steam community thing is that its getting a cloud save patch: https://twitter.com/Fallout/status/405054601935605760

I really hope there is a patch to fix Fallout 3 for Windows 7, since Ive been trying to play it recently and it's trying its hardest not to be played :(

As cool as having a drivable vehicle would be it just isn't practical for this kind of game engine.

I mean it would be greatly imbalanced to drive a vehicle and run over every single opponent or obstacle that happened to get in your way...

A horse on the other hand... (red dead redemption reference).

As for the new Morse code as of today... From http://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/1rg1jg/the_survivor_2299_speculation_and_hype_megathread/

---

"

I've just decoded the whole thing manually. I've put the entire results below.

My best interpretation of how the message is formatted:

NCRA UNIT BST 314

7 EMRG MSG

NEW YORK STAGE 7

WASHINGTON STAGE 7

LOS ANGELES STAGE 7

AUSTIN STAGE 7

CHICAGO STAGE 7

NEW ORLEAN STAGE 7 [sic]

LAS VEGAS UNKNOWN

MIAMI STAGE 7

DALLAS STAGE 7

DENVER STAGE 7

SAN DIEGO STAGE 7

SAN FRANCISCO STAGE 7

BOSTO [sic]

EDIT: http://www.reddit.com/u/NukapediaGunny said in regards to the opening lines "radio comms usually went: YOU, this is ME, come in YOU."

This could mean that instead of an NCRA Boston unit sending out a general message, a unit in Boston (of some unknown branch or type) is attempting to send a message to the NCRA, i.e. NCRA! This is Boston unit 314! Stage 7 emergency message!

Some of the interesting things are New Orleans is misspelled and Las Vegas is listed as unknown. General consensus seems to be that "stage 7" refers to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Nuclear_Event_Scale#Level_7:_Major_accident, which for stage 7 says:

Major release of radio-active -material with widespread health and environmental effects requiring implementation of planned and extended -countermeasures

Because of "stage 7", I interpret the "7 EMRG MSG" to mean an emergency message regarding multiple nuclear events of stage 7.

I think Vegas is listed as unknown because its following canon as House was able to stop a large majority of nuclear missiles headed for the Mojave wasteland.

Aye other people came to the same conclusions on the last couple pages of the last thread, worth reading them. Still, nice work translating it!

Just a thought, the other day Bethesda liked a youtube video about a prologue to the Great War, and the site is recounting details of events before/during the Great War. Possibly a coincidence.

I'd really love a horse, too bad in the canon they went extinct. Even if they weren't extinct and got put in the game, you'd still have people crying, "Skyrim with guns!"

Well back to my precipitation thing, I just think it would be weird because there hasn't been any form of precipitation in Fallout games before.

Not sure if this is achievable, but I just want a less entering areas (and less loadings) to make the environments feel authentic. I always hate in Bethesda games that whenever you enter a building or an area, it's like stepping into another dimension: Nobody inside can perceive anything going on outside and vice versa.

So even if you're shooting up the whole town outside, entering a house and the house owner just started waking up... instead of acting realistically like get out of bed 60 minutes ago to pick up his damn gun and go outside and shoot me in the ass! :banghead:

Also, having less entering areas mean having more entrances (and spectacular exits), which maybe you can make barricades and plan your battles along with your environments. This would take combat to the next level instead of run-n-VATS.

Saddle up a deathclaw.
Though, it should be hard to get the enclave designed controls, in order to tame one for riding.

Like you need a certain type of playthrough/build for it to be an option.
