Fallout 4 Speculation Suggestions and Ideas #167

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:20 am

Say what you want about Skyrim's UI, they obviously (I don't, maybe not obvious to everyone - I've got a background in art and graphic design) spent a lot of time working on a very specific font and a minimalistic interface. That's not what we see in that webpage, though. Those are stock fonts and a clip art version of the Vault-Tec logo.

If I had to take a guess (and I guess this means I am) it's going to be a fan video or something along those lines.

Weighing in here on the Explosions as Ultimate Lockpick debate...

First of all, explosions, when used on flimsy containers like drawers or footlockers should destroy the contents within (excepting quest items), resulting in various junk parts. A lockpick could be used to preserve the contents.

Secondly, an explosion, when used on a locked door (one which can be picked, as opposed to one requiring a key or INACCESSIBLE) should alert all enemies in a large radius. Thus, when you are a weak waste-wanderer, it would be to your benefit to use lockpicks unless you want to be bumrushed by every enemy nearby. I'm thinking of when I was sent to Walmart by Moira and I was incredibly scared of making any noise or running into a shopping cart, lest I alert all the raiders inside.

Thirdly, use of explosives to open a safe should be dependent on explosive skill. After all, they survived the Great War. If you have a low explosives skill, you fail to place the bomb well, the safe remains shut, and you just wasted an explosive weapon when you could have used up much cheaper bobby pins.

Finally, link lockpicking to some other skill -- maybe a high lockpicking skill means you have steady hands and boosts medicine (sewing yourself up) or accuracy of small guns/energy weapons (holding the gun still).

For my fellow cynics, let's play a game.

Plausible nightmare scenarios for Fallout 4 that would just make me facepalm and cry:

-Cazadors are in Boston "becuz kewl"

-Turbo is in Boston "becuz awsum"

-Nightstalkers are in Boston "becuz iunno why not *blatant ignorance of lore*"

-The plot is basically about "R ANDROIDS AS REAL AS U OR ME OR SHULD WE USE DEM AS MINDLESS SLAVES CUZ DEY JUS ROBOTS???"

-Everything got re-nuked somehow ("The Courier rerouted the Divide missles to hit Boston cause the Courier hates Boston!!11")

-It's a prequel AKA the lazy writer's favorite ace-in-the-hole for moving a story forward without actually making any progress at all (I.E. just after the Great War, though the 2299 number may silence this possibility)

-Three Dog and other fan-service cameos occur not because they're actually plausible or make sense, but because FAN SERVICE!!

-Bethesda hires one singular big-name voice actor and kills him off almost immediately, the rest of the voice cast is mediocre or poor

-We fight aliens with the assistance of Optimus-I mean Liberty Prime

-The plot in some way fails to truly understand the meaning behind "War Never Changes" and instead has a very simplistic good-vs-evil outline where one side is completely justified for waging war and the other might as well be guys with curly moustaches tying dames to railroad tracks

-The Enclave are back

-For some reason, many of the perks, SPECIAL effects, Traits and other such features introduced in Fallout New Vegas are simply -not- included with no explanation as to why whatsoever. Meanwhile, some of the more broken overpowered perks like "Almost Perfect," Implant GRX and the three end-game perks from New Vegas still make the cut

-There's a magical "omg 100 damage a shot x5 crit multiplier assault rifle" that trumps every other weapon

-Damage resistance, not damage threshold, is still the standard defense stat and yes hitting the cap is more than doable

-Enemies continue to gain HP exponentially while their damage is either too pathetic or practically oneshots anyone

-SPECIAL is cut

I honestly believe the website is a hoax. A very well done one though. ( Mainly because of the riddles, codes, and Morse code stuff. ) The guy(or Girl) that did this obviously took there time and research. so when and if it does come out as a hoax i wont be mad. Sure the person is a huge troll but is still a pretty dedicated fan. In my opinion its the same thing as the Nuka Break fan film except its a website not a mini series, and nuka break wasn't misleading. The only thing that really makes me question its realty or not is that the simple fact that bethesda wont say its not theirs. Its just kind of weird. Maybe something has happened like this before idk. But i feel like they should atleat address the thing.

the name of the city isn't going to be that big a deal IMO. remember, this is post apocalyptic. everything is destroyed and ruined. for example, take away a few well recognizable monuments and building; and DC and the capital wasteland could have been anywhere in the US.

Been there done that.... Not so funny anymore.

We need some real FO4 news soon. Because this thread has become a endless source of repetition over the years.

I read the first one and immediately cringed.

By the third I let out a sigh of disappointment and horror.

Some of these might just happen. :scared:

I'm expecting these to happen. But at least we get to fight Enclave Vertibirds. Maybe even fly one :hehe:

It's plausible, more or less, that any of these things could happen. The prequel part I sounds least possible from that list, as I believe I remember they've said that they will not move backwards - but who knows, maybe thigns have changed.

well, I'm sure they'll beef up the webpage after they announce. if the idea is to build hype and keep people guessing, then they have definitely succeeded. If they had created a top notch high end page for this, then it would be pretty obvious they did it. but at the end of they day, I still say they would have denied the site by now if they had nothing to do with it.

- Likely.

- Extremely likely.

- Nah, they'll stick with their own orch super mutants. edit: Wait nightstalker ain't sms i'm stupid. Confused them with nightkin.

- There is a high chance. Why waste time and money on quality writing when they're going to praise it anyhow? FO3 got an award for writing.

- Thought only Chris Avellone wanted to do that.

- They said they wouldn't go back in time. Too bad, because I would actually like a prequel.

- Guaranteed.

- I'm putting my money on Bryan Cranston.

- Nah, they're not that stupid.

- What else can they do besides good vs evil? You said it yourself in the last thread, they can't do moral ambiguity for [censored].

- I'm pretty sure we're going to have Enclave Remnants of some kind.

- That's so certain that if it does not happen I will be watching the news for a few days see if I can catch other miracles.

- Same as the last one.

- Again.

- And again.

- They won't cut it, it will just be less "speadsheety" (meaning attributes won't amount to [censored] and will be only decoration).

Yes, certainly once you learn how to do it, you no longer need to invest in the lockpicking skill in order to pick locks in Skyrim. However, the Master locks were still very challenging.

In my view the lockpicking system could be a bit more fun for FO4 if all locks started out as challenging as the Master locks in Skyrim until your skill improves, with higher difficulty locks being impossible or nearly impossible to open. Also like the idea of using explosives, but I imagine we'd be more likely to see that sort of thing incorporated into a mod rather than the vanilla game.

If they do bring back anyone from Fallout 3, I hope Uncle Leo makes another appearance, perhaps in some more random encounters. He endlessly wanders the wastes so I can imagine him showing up in the Commonwealth.

i look at it as 70% of the time yes you could be anywhere but 30% of the time you know you are in DC or Vegas and after playing numerous games in NY, California, Chicago, or Florida i really am sick and tired of these places being the center of the media entertainment universe, excluding a post apocalyptic Disney world / Universal studios location for the sheer joy of seeing those flattened

I wouldn't say as high as 30% even. aside from the Washington monument, capital, Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, the 2 museums, and the white house you really could have been anywhere. 90% of the DC ruins was just made up. and I don't believe there was even one location in all of the capital wasteland that was accurate to the real world area in anything other than name.

I'd rather see Lockpick as part of a set of skill rather on by its own, which is a complete waste of skill points... like Science which covers hacking, robot damage, recycling and recipes.

I'm thinking maybe Subterfuge (or something along the line), which includes a variety of skills such as lockpicking, disguise and camouflage, firearms disabling, and tracking.

The other part of the issue is that the location effects the tone and style of the game in subtle and not so subtle ways and if the was a fallout in one of the more common video game locations it would make the game feel contemptuous to me

I'd rather they removed the minigame mechanic altogether; or made up a mode where they are set off and you need to rely on your character to do the job (and this goes for many other mechanics too -- aiming, hacking, healing, repairing, cooking, crafting, everything - through a skillcheck that lets the character attempt and fail if he does poorly).

So, this might be old news, but after just playing New Vegas, the logo on the survivor website looks a lot like the loading icon on the loading screen in NV. http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/558567-fallout-new-vegas-playstation-3-screenshot-loading-screen.jpg
