Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas #174

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:26 am

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in athis thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

~How about improved TPP/ iso option ~based on Skyrim's TPP combat.
~Improved VATS designed to somewhat emulate a cross between the Agent Smith & Neo gun fights in Matrix (though not in the air); the predictive fights in Game of Shadows [Sherlock], and the game Toribash.
~That or optional TB mode for the diehards (myself included).

Alternatively How about BUYING https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYAUlPMqnKk outright and making that the TurnBased'esque (but not quite really) combat option instead of VATS?

I hope, and suggest that the do not strive to create a Fallout Disneyland; but instead go for meaningful, varying, reactive and thought provoking interaction between the player, the game world and storylines (ruleset, quest and world design, narrative structuring and writing). Reactivity, reactivity, reactivity should be the mantra; and less the ideal of "how much [censored] can we stuff inside this sack before we need to start cutting back?".

Gotta say, I'd rather they tweaked VATS to work continuously (unless toggled otherwise) like the phase based combat in Wizardry 8 (I'd give a link, but I'm posting with an unsmart phone, and I'd guess you know how that game works works).

(And I'd hate it if it went for matrix style slo-mo bullet time - if your meaning is that for a certain duration, time slows down and you score as many hits as you can until everything returns to normal.)

Three possible endings to this:

1. Fallout 4 Revealed, the world celebrates, Bethesda earns a ton of money.

2. A picture of the worlds greatest hoaxer's backside comes up after the timer reaches 0, Bethesda STILL earns a ton of money.

3. http://oyster.ignimgs.com/planets/images/00/22/2298_FO3_NES_normal.jpg, Bethesda earns a ton of money.

Desmond Lockheart point lookout dlc

If kept alive, Desmond disappears from the game after you exit the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Underground_Lab upon completion of http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/A_Meeting_of_the_Minds. If talked to beforehand, he will mention traveling north to pursue his next rival, another "player" in the "Great Game", a Post-War struggle between former geniuses and billionares.

Wow. That's some good work. That's actually quite a bit of detail. You could actually start to believe that reading through it. If this does turn out to be fake somebody has put a hell of a lot of work into it.

Edit - I kind of want to go and play through point lookout again now.

VATS was supposedly added to Fo3 because of the poor gameplay, to give it something unique and keep in touch with the RPG part of the time, in order to not compete with great smooth FPS:es out there.

So if the combat is still clunky, sure, add VATS. But I'd rather see it wasn't time-stopping, and you could do more than just shoot at an opponent in VATS. For example, you could use action points to run to your left, fire your gun then reload at will, take a stimpak etc. Executing the VATS actions should be faster too, it slows down gameplay way too much when you can pause the game and then watch what feels like a minute long shooting animation in slow-motion.

Where did you hear that?

Fallout 1, 1997: Typical isometric game combat + VATS

Fallout 2: 1998: Typical iso combat + VATS

Morrowind, 2002: clunky FPS-like combat

Oblivion, 2005: slightly less clunky FPS-like combat

Fallout 3: 2008, less clunky FPS combat + VATS (adapted to FPS style)

FONV, 2010: less clunky FPS combat + VATS

Skyrim: 2011: less clunky FPS combat

VATS was ported because it was a unique aspect of Fallout that the developers wanted to keep from the original games.
