Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas #179

Post » Sun Dec 08, 2013 1:29 am

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion, rumors and speculation in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in this thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

Lol. Honestly, this kind of reminds me of the whole thing with the Blue Star Sunset Sarsaparilla Caps. If you'd read the terminal in their headquarters, somehow a rumor had started about their being a special prize for the caps, and sales sky rocketed. When management heard of the rumor, they took advantage of it and installed Festus and then the Sunset Sarsaparilla Deputy Badges.

Why are people not saying the real reason to be disappointed? There was Desmond Lockheart, meaning that if the site had been real it would have been an indication that Bethesda suddenly cares about continuity and canon.

I wonder if they announce FO4 at the VGX. Pete Hines said they won't even be there, but people said he denied being there for the VGA they announced Skyrim at. I wonder what will happen when Bethesda announces a Chicago based game with BoS vs Enclave again. Reddit will not be happy, and their influence was vital in making Skyrim as popular as it is. Bethesda needs an astronomical failure about now, I think.

Every single day there's tons of new content for Fallout popping up on the internet, while I doubt this one escaped Bethesda's radar considering the amount of gaming press that reported on it, I have a feeling they kept a "wait and see" approach about the whole thing, and were just as curious to see things go.

Free publicity is free publicity.

I highly doubt Bethesda's integrity is at all damaged by this, in fact I've not seen any evidence to suggest such a thing outside this forum specific. They will do just fine, and I will be queuing up with the rest of the drones to be buying FO4 when it is finally released.

You should look at Pete Hines and Bethesda's twitter then. Also, on Reddit, where the most true Bethesdrones dwell.

Yet you were wrong about them still being marketing gods. Bethesda fessed up that they didn't even know this thing got to be as big as it did. I mean for a time everyone was talking about this; Reddit, to which they largely owe Skyrim's success, was discussing it like crazy.

Just like Skyrim was a slap in the face, their silence proves that Bethesda isn't any better than EA or Activision. They enjoyed the free publicity at the cost of being honest with their fans. They could've came out the day after the website was found to say it wasn't theirs. With the way they handled this, I'm almost afraid to see what garbage they churn out and call Fallout.

Where was I wrong? I repeatedly stated that Bethesda's marketing department is competent and wouldn't make glaring mistakes the Survivor 2299 website did. Bethesda let it run its course, then denied the allegations to prevent disappointment. It's pretty competent.

Furthermore, you're giving too much credit to Reddit. Bethesda owes nothing to Reddit about Skyrim. The game succeeded thanks to millions of fans of The Elder Scrolls franchise.

Honestly, I'm really dissapointed in Bethesda. I'm not even mad at the guy who made the Survivor website. He put in a lot of time and effort and it was an interesting ride. So I'm not pissed at him, not at all. I would like to shake his hand and give him some kudos.

Bethesda dropped the ball however PR wise. They let this go on for way too long. Instead of taking just 5 minutes to give a clear answer, to simply say 'it's not us' to all the fans out there, they let it go on and on. And for what? So we'd spend a little extra cash on Fallout stuff while the hype was taking place? As a fan of Bethesda's work I feel used. This is not what I call a competent marketing group.

As I'm rather break the hand of that person and give him couple of other things... I totally agree with the rest of it. Most people are angry not because we were fooled by this hoax but because Bethesda take active role in it. Yes, active role I said, for such long time they do nothing, as sunago said not even one fraking little post or tweet that they or Zenimax have nothing to do with that site. One minute of work, couple of words... simple thing and there would be no problem at all.

You're ignoring my point about Bethesda not even knowing about how much hype it created. Their own forums were hyping the site, without them knowing it. That's incompetence.

Also, you underestimate Reddit, look at Borderlands 2, that was a game made to cater to redditors and it became quite popular. Skyrim wouldn't have sold much better than Oblivion did if it was up to only TES fans, Reddit played a part, and Bethesda knows it. Look at that video Todd Howard shows, the one where the developers implemented random ideas they had. You know, where the infamous vampire form originally comes from. I think that video is proof enough that Reddit has an influence on BGS. I'm not happy about it either, since then promote "throw it in if it's cool, even if it doesn't make any sense", but it's the truth.
