Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas #182

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 1:51 pm

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion, rumors and speculation in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in this thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

Just a small suggestion: For every new topic you could add the last post from the previous thread to the opening post. The Obsidian forum mods do that and it works well in practice.

The reason why so many gamesites take over even though it is unreliable is because fallout is still popular which is a good thing.

I don't have high hopes for this game, but even I can't believe that dialog will be that linear. I thought that it was something like that, but not included in script:

Preston Garvey: Do it.

Player Character: [Intelligence] This is suicide mission.

PG: Other ideas?

PC: [Science]: Museum needs a lot of power, right?... (so on)

Eh, maybe I'm just naive...

It may sound a little stupid, but it's a lot better than linear version. "Stupid" characters do "suicide missions" and "intelligent" ones try smarter way.

Not this time... not this bloody time. Moderatii of this forum give me a lesson that nothing is true, if Bethesda official representative don't confirm that.

Couple points in regards to the alleged rumors of the Kotaku leak:

1) It would be the very definition of negligence for Bethesda not to immediately denounce these leaks as false, if they truly are. Having JUST seen false hype lead to a bunch of misled, infuriated fans who were upset both with the hoaxer and Bethesda aswell for not denouncing the hoax sooner, allowing yet ANOTHER rumor to build up into a monster and not shooting it down would probably be a very poor decision on their part. If it's true, not much they can do. Someone mentioned in the last thread that hyping this up, whether you believe it's true or not, would be wise, as that will force Bethesda's hand. I agree.

2) The Journalists have obvious motivation to cash out on this now. This is the day the hoaxer was to reveal his stuff. Feeding off of that and claiming to have proof of FO4 obviously spells out massive publicity for Kotaku. Take from that what you will.

3) In my humble opinion, those design documents look absolutely terrible. Linear dialogue, a rather odd intro that creates a helluva lot more questions than it should (in my opinion) and a protagonist that just screams "I'm your stereotypical badass smoothtalker protagonist you've played a dozen times before." Gee, just what I wanted.

4) Doesn't feel like Fallout. Aside from my own subjective opinions....where's Ron Perlman? Am I reading that right? Our character does the intro? Our character TALKS? And am I the only one getting a first-person-shooter vibe from this? Our character talking combined with having NPCs "cover you" sure seems more like an FPS to me, and there's even WWII references, yknow, one of FPS' most beloved times of reference....I'm sorry but I have trouble taking this seriously.

Though of course, grain of salt. Could be more hoaxes, could be that Bethesda does a lot of work around their own design documents without actually writing down every detail within them (branching dialog).

Then concratulation Kotaku: They reached the goal that they wanted to achieve in posting their own version of the hoax.

And where I wrote I believe that? I was just talking about concept of non-linear dialogs, giving that presented on Kotaku as example. As Tagaziel wrote, Beth is known for terrible writing, so it may be hoax, but linear dialogs is a very big possibility, even more after seeing Skyrim.

But of course, you've seen what you've wanted to see.

I agree with this. This should be hyped as [censored] so that Beth will have to react on it. And I sure hope they will change the narrator back to Ron Pearlman (or the player character will be voiced by Ron Pearlman?) I don't know. I like to imagine my own characters voice, I really don't like the "Mass Effect way" of doing a main character, and Beth should not adapt to that. They should keep their protagonists a bit more mysterious, like they always have, and let you forge their character in your head. It is an RPG after all (WELL HOPEFULLY!). I would not worry too much about the script. I think I heard/read somewhere that it was just a document used for casting voice actors. I am not sure how the majority of the community reacted to this, but in Skyrim, you really did not have all that many choices during conversation, and I felt like that was a bad thing. So I hope that it is something Beth has taken note of. They are different games, and Fallout 3 did have alot of cool choices in pretty much all the elements of the game. I just don't hope they go too mainstream or whatever doing this, just so they can broaden the audience that this game speaks to. Also, thread blink-182.
