Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas #187

Post » Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:17 pm

This thread is so that we can keep all the discussion, rumors and speculation in one place.

This topic is for a friendly discussion of ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4. We all have opinions about what the next game should have and should not have. Each of us has the right to express that opinion freely. There are points we agree on and points we do not agree on. This means that people are going to disagree with you on some things. Accept that and move on. No need to beat your point so far into the ground that no one wants to look at it any more.

At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

Something to note. Discussions of Child Killing is not allowed on these boards. Don't even bring it up in this thread. It won't happen in any future game from Bethesda, so there is no reason to even discuss it. If you post about this subject, you may be Warned and or Banned from the boards for doing so.

This is also not a thread to discuss current or past Fallout Games, other than to mention an aspect of the game you want to see included, or not included, in a future Fallout game.

Quoted from the previous thread.

Anyway, I watched that video (and a number of other Elder Scrolls Online videos) a few days ago, and it's part of what made me argue against that sort of body deformation. Look through all the content for TES:O, and you'll begin to notice the immense concessions that are made when designing armor for that sort of body customization. Painted on clothing and armor is rife; small, low poly (and blandly textured) accessories are then stapled onto certain joints such as shoulders, knees, and so on, all of which is designed in a fairly flat style so that it doesn't appear too distorted when it's stretched. I'll let it pass in an MMO, but in TES single player? God no.

Tag said: "The backstory is expressed through the choices a character makes throughout the course of the game. A former NCR soldier will make different choices in New Vegas than a Legion sympathizer that originally came from the east, or a person born in New Canaan, but migrated down south. Tabula rasa allows for the creation of unique backgrounds that then influence the way a player expresses their character.

AKA roleplaying.

Compare that to Fallout 3, when all choices are derived from the prefabricated background of "19 year old Vault Dweller looking for his Daddy and proudly continuing his legacy." "

Again, that back story is/would be never mentioned or acknowledged in game. Playing as a former NCR soldier? You can never mention or be recognized as such. Playing as some Legion sympathizer from the East? Again, same. In fact many dialogue choices that exist in game downright contradict such a thing.

Yeah, I know what role playing is. Is FO 1 and 2 not a RPG? Clearly RPGs exist where you have a back story. It does not lessen the experience.

Not all choices in FO 3 are based upon your back story, and just like in FONV or FO1 and 2 you can, if you desire, ignore whatever you want and even choose to never finish the game. For example, I have never completed the MQ of NV. When I learned they axed a possible ending when the Courier could just leave the Mojave, I was angry as that would be the ending I chose after doing what I wanted, killing Benny and House basically resulting in the end of my main quest. As it stands, I just never finish the game.

Can you not base your decisions on something other than back story? Are all your play throughs of FO1 and 2 the same, because the back story is the same for each one. I can think of countless ways to roleplay my character, none of them based upon his back story, but other motivations. Greed, dreams, goals, psychosis, duty, honor, anger, deceit, envy, the list can go on and on.

FO3 and 1 are basically the exact same back story except your age is set and you have a dad. Like I said before, I do think they took it a little too far in 3, but for Fallout games I like having a back story as it adds to the impact of my choices and creates more attachment to the game lore and history, and I can roleplay just fine with one.

When it is all said and done, the canon events from FONV will be accomplished by the Courier. Not Frank Qwerty, ex-Legion assassin who came from Texas and left the Legion after betrayal, swearing vengeance and taking a job as a Courier as he plotted revenge. All the back story someone can come up with is moot and only the choices you make walking forward from Goodsprings will matter. If you need to make your own back story, go for it. But Fallout works just fine with the template they provide.
