Not really.
The guards will need a place to rest, and eat, so there's a barracks with a mess hall, thats more size and population. A doctor to tend to the good health of the settlement, a mechanic to mantain and even build those walls, towers, and turrets. Having someone who can reload spent brass would be a good idea, and then it would be wise to have people sent out on teams to scavenge and gather resources, not to mention the small agriculture that should be going on within the walls. Those are all increases in size and population...
Hopefully with modern consoles we can actually have something like that in the next game. Just thinking about Fallout 4: Tirefire makes me wish I had the skills to mod it into a existing game. Man, I hope there's something like this in Fallout 4...
Post-apocalyptic sandbox game, in which you can create your own settlement. (explanation of the link above)
Ive actually looked into Kenshi a little bit, but im holding off for a 1.0 release, the same with Project Zomboid. I dont want to spoil the game too early, when it isnt feature complete. Although with those games, 1.0 is just a single milestone as they keep on developing.
Perhaps, then, the stronghold/fortress idea can be implemented in a positive to add to the game as a whole. Though, not to center the story around your stronghold; it's hypothetical existence should serve as a piece of the world that you just happen to own and maintain.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to play a Fallout game with a story built around building and maintaining your stronghold.
Again, there's Morrowind which had it as a pretty big quest, which is a great way to do it. Even if its a DLC like those Home DLCs for Oblivion or Hearthfire for Skyrim, I would be in absolute love with it.
Yeah but the Morrowind story wasn't really created specifically to allow the stronghold was it?
No it wasnt, and I dont think in any future games it should be. It was more of a endgame reward.
Please lets not spoil anything. I mean not much was said.. But now I know that a home is rewarded endgame.
