The point of is that we become so unbalanced by it.
We get perks, health, power armor, unique weapons, drugs, lots and lots of stimpaks and VATS, none of which the NPC's are given.
So we end up becoming a walking god.
The difficulty systems quite clearly has not been able to find a good way to balance it all out so something new is needed.
No health per level might sound like a bad idea but it will actually make Endurance on not only you but all the enemies so more important.
No longer does your level define how good your character will be in combat but by your gear and your numbers. (And of course your skills.)
Meaning that if you and a companion face against 10 raiders you're likely going to be walking away a companion short and have a pharmacy injected into your body.
While if you face against 10 raiders with 3 companions and better gear you will be on more equal terms, it will still be hard, but you and your companions have a greater shot at making it out alive.
It might not seem ideal what with health being given by the level being a staple of RPG's but it could really help balance things out and make each battle a struggle for survival.
Alternatively, they could include this in my Disadvantages suggestion, making it completely optional. Though then the game will be designed around the player being given health and might [censored] up the balance even worse.
But the biggest reason for it is this: Why the hell are we being given magic powers?
How come NPC's get so little health?
Let me do an example, go to the Freeside and only wear a brahmin skin outfit and a knife, now, let the thug stab you 5 times and then stab him 5 times.
Which one of you lost the most health in % comparison to boths max health?
The thug.
It doesn't make sense, we're both in the same outfit, we both have the same weapon, yet for some biased reason the PC gets more health.
I absolutely hate it.
Cause we already get VATS, perks, chems, stimpaks and armor and weapons thich the NPC's never spawn with.
It's only fair to even the score out a little.
I just don't see why I should get trice as much health as a generic town citizen when we both share the same END.
We're both humans right? With the same Endurance.
I get that we're all playing as the protagonist, but why should we be an exception to this?
I mean, The Lone Wanderer was some brat that had shot stuff with a BB gun prior to going outside and ended up so powerful that he/she could take on Frank Horrigan.
And while The Courier was a bit more experienced he was still just a mailman, yet he ended up being able to defeat the monster of the east.
How does that work?
Frank Horrigan was a soldier turned super mutant, he had experience, tons and tons of experience.
And Lanius? He isn't the legate for nothing.
But both of these protagonists just started actually "doint stuff" and they became so ridiculously overpowered that if Lanius or Frank got the same treatment they'd actually become gods.
Bethesda should stop treating the player character like (s)he's an exception to this, cause (s)he's not.
At least that's my take on it.
Just thought I'd explain more in detail as to
why I want this change.
[edit]
I get that it might be about 'Showing that the character is moving forward', that (s)he is progressing.
But I thought skill points, perks, and equipment were supposed to show that.
