Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas thread #106

Post » Tue Feb 05, 2013 12:44 am

This topic is for ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4 so that we can keep all the discussion in one thread. At moderator discretion, threads about specific and distinct topics as they relate to FO4 and the rest of the Fallout series may be acceptable in the Fallout Series forum. General idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

What would make Fallout 4 not svck, or svck less depending on your point of view? Who is right, and who is wrong, and why?
Discuss!

I think there should be a new type of pip boy that you can get if you choose it at the start

Please no more pip-boys, is it really a neccessary feature? It always looks wierd on almost any armor, and as a menu, it doesn't do its job good enough IMO.
You always have to press a tab button and look through many sub sections instead of, for example, pressing M for map, I for inventory, etc. Inconvenient.

Not to mention the problem with the spacesuit in MZ. The pip-boy hole took immersion and crapped on it.

1) better inventory controll, if only better sorting between crafting mats and junk, and moveing "quest object" out of general inventory to its own"Quest object" subinentory
1a) no more having the same key used to move an item into storage also be used to dump everything in storage onto your character
1n) and lets NOT have player storage be idiot coded to be exactly the same as lootable containers, seriously it only proves you let an idiot design it, which only proves you were a BIGGER idiot to let him design it in the first place.

2) Charisma being used to limmit the number of companions (1 "Mule" + 1/2 of cha rounded up

3) Caravans and fast travel can be interupted "in rout" by encounters (ala Fallout 1 2 Tactics)

4) Randomly placed enocounters

5) change to Dr bags to HOT efects simular to what was in Fallout 1-2 also reduce the number of stims (instant heals) and add in first aid kits as HOT. (Bascialy the way I see it, Stimpacks and "medicins" are instant heals, food-drink-first aid kits are what you use when you come out of the fight, but I dont realy have a problem with them being used After

6) make it so the game kind of keeps track of what level your inventory is, even on hard I found that by the end of the game I had a literal mountain of heals drugs Guns and ammo (my most current save, I ended up with over 17 FULLY REPAIRED Chinees assault rifles sitting in the lockers in megaton)

7) bloody mess, Wild wasteland, and Basic needs (food drink sleep) should be seperatly togelable, Food that has a hot should not be faster than first aid kits or Dr bags but can have a longer duration (also limit stacking of heal effects to 1 Food 1 Drink 1 Aid kit.)

8) modular houseing system simular to Skyrims DLC upgraded homesteads(either a Vault that can be salvaged/repaired/refited or above ground housing or simular. or both) hopefully though if you get a choice of locations they at least put diferent skins on them this time, or a choice beween office building house and factory or something.

9) One thing I hope they do better is curb unkillable essential characterrs a bit. if you dont want someone bloody dead theres ways to deal with it.

Spoiler

1) Idiotic levels of Daka backing them up, even if the quest NPC dont know it. for example lets say your in a bar and the quest giver walks in and you decide to turn him/her into Swiss chees, you pull a gun and the next thing you know literaly the entire bar turns into "all you can Shoot Buffeet with extra helpings of free ammo for the NPCs so they can shoot at the main entree untill it cant move anymore from the weight of all the red hot lead, namly you the idiot PC who now has to kill EVERYONE in the bar/firefight if you hope to survive only to have some idiot run into the room with a Fatman launcher that they fire point blank at your gut, the impact of which knocks you clear acrost the room just before it goes BOOM because you DARED to draw a gun on that crusty ol fart who they care about because hes the reason there still alive or what have you. Honestly if anyone goes over 150 reloads trying to kill the guy before that final killshot then there hopless and need to be left alone. or maybee they realy enjoy getting overkilled that mutch, either way.

2) for some people the quest giver is not exactly the one who gives you the quest in the first place. After all it was not Mr Tenpenny who hired you to blow up megaton, you were basicaly just a subcontractor to Mr Burk, Ceaser did not show up to personaly start you on his questline, (and has a plan B up his sleeves in case you preemted his first messenger)....Mr house used Victor to point you more or less to New Vegas, and Yes man was able to install backups in other robots at will which kind of makes you wonder if Yesman was actualy there or elsewhere to start with....

3) its called Chain of Comand and Managment Succession planning for a reason. . . its also a way to give the "B" and "C" voice acting tallent something to do....and hang there hat on.

4) why would one faction be interested in quest.....seriously if you wipe out Brotherhood in the Operation Ancorage questline go ask the other brotherhood if there interested.....who knows maybee they will drag you kicking and screaming to see whats up. heck you could probably use the same voiceactors and just switch out 3 lines on that.

5) there called Saves for a reason. go back and load it.

10)Companions that are coded to NOT abruptly shoot you in the back of the head with a missle laucher because they see a feral ghoul way over there that you havent even noticed yet and is not even thinking of threatening you because it cant see you.

Unless the suit was sealed around your arm right before your pipboy.

not to mention the fact that you can use your pipboy during the spacewalk becuase its under the suit, the fact that it shows up in third person is becuase thats the way armor works in the game.

Maybe. I don't get why are you defending it. It's not about space costume. You'll start an argument from any scratch, won't you?

No...... I was just pointing out that the spacesuit sequence makes sense becuase you can have part your body exposed to a vaccume for awhile and not die, I had no intention of even going past that until you started trying to argue it.

ugh.............. I dont want to get into this.

The fact that you can't use the pipboy while during the spacewalk is becuase it's under the suit, in lore, and by Bethesda's own design, it's under the suit. The fact that it appears over the suit is becuase of the way armors work in the game, and it simply wasn't cost effective to change up the entire armor system for a part of a mission that took less then two mintues to do, in a game that the majorty of people dont even play in third person to see it.

Seriously, some of you people have the biggest sticks......... over such trivial gameplay stuff that it amazes me how you can stand to play games at all.

Final word I have to say on this matter.

Sure, but that would be very very painful. If that area isn't 100% sealed to the rest of the suit, then all your air will be svcked out from your lungs. If it IS sealed, then that body part is gonna have a bad time. Another thing with vacuum is that it lowers the degree where water boils even down to body temperature. There's also this guy who went up in a balloon far up in the sky (not the daredevil skydiver last year, this was earlier like the 50's-60's) and his suit malfunctioned - the glove on his right hand was not 100% sealed. His hand swelled like twice the size, and he had a... burning sensation :) And this wasn't even in vacuum, just low oxygene/low pressure. Imagine space

You mean it was impossible to script this?

if PlayerOpenAirlockSuitOn
player.unequip Pipboyid

if PlayerEnterMothershipBack
player.equip Pipboyid

It's simple scripting, really.

Seems that FO has more die hard fans than TES.
My squeeze got me the FO trilogy pack recently so I've been playing FO1 for the first time.
(I'll finally be able to finish FO2 now!)
I'm wondering what you guys would think if FO4 went back to a more RPG style game,
as opposed to turning into Modern Warfare: Wasteland Edition.

The Pip-Boy problem is admittedly pretty small, but it's not the only problem with Fallout 3. False equivalence.

I never said it was..... straw man. So, are we going to continue this pointless back and forth, or actually make suggestions on Fallout 4?

As mentioned on the past thread, I believe by you, the game shouldn't put us into the role of "that kid from the vault" again. A more open backstory would be nice, or at least the ability to choose from one of several.

One of my favorite things about the way TES plays out in the begining is how your past is unknown, you're just some prisoner who was captured because of a unspecificed crime, that you may or may not have actually commited, and beyond that, your entire character's backstory is up to you.

While I do think Fallout 3's "gowing up in the vault" backstory gave me an actual reason to care about the MQ, something I found sorely lacking in New Vegas, it set far to much of our character's life in stone, and If we MUST be "that kind from the vault" again, I would like more options to be nice/an [censored]/something, so that, while my backstory may be set, I can at least have some more controll over who my character is mentally. Fallout 3 gave us far to few options in the vault oopening to define even the most basic part of your character's mentality before the real game started.

That was my biggest problem with F3, especially because by the end of the vault sequence I was already on the verge of just rage quitting. It's cool the first time, after that I want to put a bullet through the Overseer's head and be done with it.

Bethesda's Game Studio Todd Howard please have the PC version of Fallout 4 have all these features.

Physical retail copy of Fallout 4 that sells for at retailer stores like GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy to be Digital Rights Management (DRM) free no Steam Works and of course have it ship with G.E.C.K like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas has don't add subscribe button or any Steam Works buttons on it now sell a Steam version specifically on Steam only and integrate Steam Workshop for Fallout 4 Steam version only but not for the retail boxed physical copies leave those Digital Rights Management (DRM) free please and sell a version on gog.com as well I would gladly buy all 3 versions retail from store, gog.com, and off of Steam.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is not the solution Digital Rights Management (DRM) hurts the loyal paying customers not the pirates arg ye matey copy protection should cease and never exist on the physical boxed video game copies sold at retailer stores.

Do what CD Projekt RED did to The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings offer a Digital Rights Management (DRM) free version on http://www.gog.com/ and at brick and mortar retailer stores like Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Wal-Mart and a Steam Works version specifically on Steam only.

Get rid of the Havok Physics Engine use Nvidia's PhysX Physics Engine Borderlands 2 uses it and it is amazing especially the Liquid/Fluid Simulations and tear-able Cloth Simulations I have no Nvidia graphic card only a AMD/ATI graphic card while I can't play with PhysX on max settings I can play with them on medium settings with no freezing/stuttering issues or performance loss and every other graphical setting I can run on max I just don't like Havok it's terrible and sluggish also Nvidia's PhysX Physics Engine Source (Software) Development Kit (SDK) is free to use for all systems Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (PS3), Wii, WIi U, and PC.

Or you can just make your own proprietary physics engine made with your own Source Code so that you can release the full Source Code of your own proprietary physics engine that you made for the PC version of Fallout 4.

Oh and release full Source Code and Software Development Kit (SDK) ability so modders on PC can make even more better and bigger mods.

Pretty sure you heard of the OpenMW Team they got a really good plan set out.

https://openmw.org/en/

Here is the most important part for PC gamers who are modders especially modders with programming skills Zenimax Media Inc, Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios please build a brand new video game engine from the ground up for PC with PC gamers in mind with your own proprietary software and middleware software so that you can release the full Source Code for the PC version of Fallout 4 like Id Software does with their PC versions of their video games.

Add support for all 4 Windows versions for the PC version of Fallout 4 Windows XP, Windows, Vista, Window 7, and Windows 8 I do hate Windows 8 certification thing that Microsoft added though :/.

Add support for all 3 DirectX versions DIrectX 9, DirectX 10, and DirectX 11 and DirectX 11 to it's fullest potential with all the DIrectX 11 features such as tessellation and the ability to render Unlimited Particle FX and Nvidia's PhysX physics engine features APEX Clothing, APEX Destruction, and APEX Turbulence.

Crytek's CryEngine 3 can render Unlimited Particles at a time and Crytek said Crysis 3 will have that.

Same goes for Epic Games Unreal Engine 4 although I think they said that Unreal Engine 4 can render over 1,000,000 particles at a time.

1. I want Fallout 4 to have 300 hours of quests and to be open world bigger than Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim combined with 400 places to explore.

2. More animations than ever before ability to repair weapons and armor and to actually see myself in 1st person and 3rd person at work benches stitching clothing and armor together with thread in cloth or leather and pounding out iron, steel or what ever else metal there is with a hammer.

3. More eating Animations I don't want to see NPC's when they drink different types of beverages to drink the same coke bottle when they drink water from a purified water bottle or a dirty water battle see the drinking animation for that or if they drink the different types of Nuka Cola bottles that there are see them drink those with that color same goes for food if they eat bread show bread if it's soup show them eating soup with a spoon or if it's squirrel on a stick, dog meat, or mole rat meat.

4. Please give us a slider bar in the options menu to set the shell casings how many to stay in the world and not disappear example 0-infinite people who have weak PC's can set 0-100 or 0-900 etc and people with very powerful PC's can set it to infinite and to never disappear.

5. Please give us tessellation in the options menu section in the graphics options menu section in the DirectX 11 options menu section of the PC version of Fallout 4 off, low, medium, high, very high, ultra high, maximum. The PC version of Aliens vs. Predator has this in the options menu in the graphics options menu section, the PC version of Metro 2033 has this in the options menu section in the graphics options menu section, the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution has this in the options menu in the graphics options menu section, the PC version of Batman: Arkham City has this in the options menu section in the graphics options menu section.

6. Please give us level of detail (LOD) distance in the options menu section in the graphics options menu section in the DirectX 9 options menu section in the graphics options menu section, in the DirectX 10 options menu section in the graphics options menu section, and in the DirectX 11 options menu section in the graphics options menu section of the PC version of Fallout 4 off, very near, near, far, very far, ultra far, maximum. The PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has this in the launcher menu under the video and language section but I want this option in the video game itself not in the launcher menu like the PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

7. Please give us decals in the options menu section in the graphic options menu section in the DirectX 9 options menu in the graphics options menu section, in the DirectX 10 options menu section in the graphics options menu section, and in the DirectX 11 options menu section in the graphics options menu section of the PC version of Fallout 4 off, low, medium, high, very high, ultra high, maximum. The PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has this in the launcher menu under the video and language sction and the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has this in the launcher menu in the options menu section.

8. Ability to pant and grow crops for food and raise live stock for food.

9. More movement animations Dodge, Roll, Lean against walls, and vault over low obstacles.

10. Ability to add modifications to weapons such as changeable butt stocks, changeable barrels, flash lights, grenade launchers for assault rifles, laser sights, scopes, and suppressors (Also known as (AKA) silencers) for all assault rifles, rifles, and pistols.

11. No Marriage.

12. Add companions humans and dogs.

13. No purchasing property it is a wasteland everyone for them self survival of the fittest find bandit, raider hide outs kill them and take over their place and claim it as your home purchase property in towns only.

14. Adoptions (maybe).

15. Do jobs for people.

16. More enemies in the wasteland and more dungeons, caves, etc this goes along with the previous statement I said above to adding 400 places to explore.

17. Do not get rid of repair like in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim make guns get jammed and break and make other weapons dull such as knives and break and sharpen knives once dull.

18. Add geiger counter to detect if water has radiation don't have it show up on HUD and how much RADS it has that's to easy.

19. No enchanted clothing, if it makes sense, fine, but a lab coat does not increase my knowledge of science.

20. Add perks every level.

21. Fill the wasteland with enemies.

22. Let us continue past the main game.

23. Don't remove or merge any skills.

24. Add magical bobbleheads that have skill or stat enchantments.

25. Don't remove traits, add more, make them important.

26. Introduce a perk tree system.

27. Do allow both men and women to wear the same clothes.

28. Do explain how agriculture, production, industry and trade works so that the wasteland is coherent.

29. Focus on quantity of companions and focus on quality.

30. Focus on dungeons.

31. Add the ability to see yourself in 1st person when looking down chest, torso, and legs and see animations for my legs when I am jogging, running, sprinting, and walking.

32. Add dynamic foot pathing so that when I walk on the ground my feet actually touch the ground, floor, terrain and not go through and clip through the ground, bushes, plants, trees, foliage of any type, dead NPC's, animals, creatures, monsters, or anything in the Fallout 4 world I don't like when I see my characters feet go through dead bodies in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Improve the physics engine and collision boxes.

33. Add spray paint cans so we can spray our armor, clothing, and weapons whatever color we want on them and spray whatever designs we want on them.

34. Zenimax Media Inc, Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios please debug and fix every single bug, clipping issues, exploits, and glitches before releasing Fallout 4 don't do what you did with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and know that the video game is riddled with bugs, clipping issues, exploits, and glitches and release it just because you want to release it on time on a set schedule like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for 11.11.11. I don't want to see Fallout 4 released with a target date goal fix everything before releasing and shipping it. Take your time please. In the end customers will be very happy and pay full price.
