Fallout 4: Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas - Thread #61

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:45 am

the reason i don't like jumping in fallout is because it takes up a valuable key all to itself, which could be put to far better use.

also jumping anywhere, anytime for whatever reason is completely illogical, because "jumping" is intended to get you from "point A" to "point B" when a "low-obstacle" is in your way.

So what would the button be used for?

lol you want to remove a fundamental human movement in a First Person game?
and why is the key valuable? I'm guessing you're talking from a console controller point of view since this has no real impact on keyboards(no offense but I don't give a [censored] about console players' problems for PC games)

Actually, both Y/Triangle/Space and A/X/E has been unused in one aspect, so there are still two buttons left.
We have click Y and click A, but we do not have hold Y/Triangle/Space and hold A/X/E.

So we have two keys left.
Hell, what about anologue sticks?
Click once and hold, right there we have 4 more keys.

Erm... No it doesn't. I mean X on the PS3, not on the Xbox.
At least I think it's X.
Eh... Google time.
Yup, it's X: http://media.moddb.com/images/downloads/1/25/24121/sixaxis-controller-2.jpg

Though clicking the right anologue stick uses the [Grab] function...
Hmmm.
Sprint could be Shift on computers and push down left anolougue stick while moving it forward.

Thats what I am wondering too,.

If you want a climb or something, just use that action key in a scripted place where you can interacti with a climbable object.
Much more sense than scriopting jump.

As it sits in Fallout right now, there are places like Super Duper Mart, where being able to jump comes in handy, depending on how you want to take you the raiders. having the jump be scripted in one areas forces the player to take a pre-determined path, which again I will point out is similar to an invisible wall.

If you have the cannibal perk I would love the option of having human recipes at the fireplace.

Culinary mastery of the human flesh in game of course would be so dope.

Okay, since we're on the topic of buttons, why not have (for consoles) a bunch of other commands that haven't been in a Fallout game, such as sprinting, dual wielding, blocking, punch, kick, climbing (I personally don't support this because it would be harder to put the limit on the map), laying down, hand gestures, speak friendly or mean, pretty much anything. But instead of putting them all in on the controller, put the default as normal, but the other ones are options for action mapping. This would make it so jumpers can jump, sprinters can sprint, VATS people can shoot, social players can be social, etc. If you don't like VATS, use the button as something else like sprinting. If you want to fist fight, fist fight. If you don't toggle 1st person and 3rd person, use something else. The point is this would solve the problems of having less options on a controller, and when you can't use one option you can use a different one that suits you better for the time being. Like if you're in a Casino gambling, you don't need to jump or sprint or use VATS, so remap your controllers to say good things, bad things, flip someone off, etc.

Well I want the option to jump still because it's helped me get out of bugged areas more times than I can count and removing it would be a hell storm for Beth...

These video's are fake. If they were real they would have been posted by Bethesda Softworks or IGN.

If the 1st/3rd person bumper was set as an alt key, then you woul dhave pretty much dowble the amount of button commands.
You could still have the 1st and 3rd perspective button as one of those "extra" buttons that is used with the alt. So thats a way to go

Considering consoles also have mic setups, somethings could be controlled through those, with kinect support through the 360.

OR

both 360 and PS3 have contoller attachable keyboards. Why not make some extra options that are supported on those?

I suppose it could work, but Bethesda still has to think about the people who can't affort kinect or the attachable keyboards (plus the keyboards are really small and you might push the wrong button, and I also find it uncomfortable during gameplay). And one quick fix on the button thing: of course there would be things that you can't take off such as walking, looking, pulling out weapon/shoot, so that would have a seperate section where you can still change it but it can't be unattached, or do something so certain commands cannot be taken away. Another thing, maybe instead of replacing, say, VATS, you could also use it as another Hot Key.

I think thats why its a viable to use say the LB ( which is now 1st 3rd toggle)as an "alt" key. You could add a lot, without even sacrificing that perspective toggle; just re-assigning it as one of the "Alt+" commands.
I look at it like this, I play on the 360. not including start/select and the actual anologue directions, there are 18 buttons if you include all 8 directions on the D-pad.
If you made just one bumper an "alt" you would almost double that, to a possible 35 (sacrificing one for the alt itself)

I just mention the keys and kinect support for extra things that most people arent going to really care about having/ that you dont necessarily need to play.
you pay a premium for the extra hardware, because you are more into options than the average player.

Absolutely, that would work even better than what I had been thinking (now that I realize you mean something like LB+X=Something besides X). I don't know if any game has done that yet, but I don't see why not, especially with the Fallout series where I want to Hot Key more items than I'm allowed (because I'm pretty sure a normal game can't find 35 uses for controls unless you include a lot of gestures and talking). Does anyone know of a game that has that? Even though some games don't have controls for all the buttons, there has to be one that has needed more buttons and thought to use this. This could work pretty well if Bethsda ever wanted to add more buttons, I'm pretty sure they do considering they didn't have sprint and some people will want dual wielding, though not highly recommended by me. This could also help with climbing, though I don't think it's the best idea, and hand-to-hand combat, even though I don't advise that either. But it's definetly an option.

i really like this idea. and i was thiking about suggesting something similar. essentially you could choose wether you want to use V.A.T.S or not, if you choose not to use use V.A.T.S you would be able to perform "secondary attacks" (for example kick while unarmed, stab with knives, pistol whip with handguns, etc...). meanwhile "change view" would be added to a pop-up menu opened with the "back"/ "select" key, together with "wait", "sit down on ground", etc..., giving you another "combat key" which i would use as the "change ammo" and
"throw" (this allows you to throw any one-handed melee weapon, for 1.5 X the damage and with 1.5 X the critical chance ,however, this will also do a very high amount of damage to the weapon's condition, the distance the weapon is thrown is baded on it's weight and your STR)

I knew I wasn't the only one thinking this, and all your ideas or good. Pistol whipping, stabbing, and throwing I like the most. And I also forgot to mention something. You could either have a press and hold to activate (such as you have to be holding, say, L2 to use the secondary action of X) or you could have a toggle (where you press the button once to switch it to the other formating, that way you don't have to be holding L2 to get the secondary action of X) and of course you would pick which one you want to use, toggle or hold, in the options menu. I really think this would be an awesome thing to add in some games though.

For a Location: I hope in the New Fallout game it takes place in New York City..

Other: I wish it improves much on animations.. and adds class systems with big diversities.. Such as.. If your a sword user.. You shouldnt walk like you hold a minigun.. You should be really fast.. And I would like more animations instead of just pulling Right Trigger and waiting for something to fall dead... Also the enviroment will have to feel more real and you should feel more among it.. I really thought FONV and Fallout 3 lacked this a lot.. Most of the builings you couldn't go into and you could never interact with the enviroment.. I would also like a good story from Bethesda for once.. Fallout 3 was ok and FONV's story was pretty bad.. Also I would like for them to take there time on this game and not think about rushing it in a time frame.. THey got a lot of money.. So time isn't what they should be fighting.. They should be making something that wow's the consumer and makes them eager for more..!

(Climbing was mentioned) - I would love this for a sneaking/acrobatic/sword:knife class.. It would really add to the RPG elements instead of being a forced shooter...

Also all the DLC for Fallout 3 and FONV were bad.. Some say Point Lookout was good.. But it was only good because it was the biggest out of all the rest.. Still it was small compared to an Elder Scrolls Expansion.. So they shouldnt be doing "Map-Packs" and start doing large world adds..

Having a big area doesn't make a DLC or expansion pack good. The Pitt was pretty good considering Bethesda's writing staff... or their moral dilemas were just by mistake.

Fallout 4 needs to make skill points worth something. Being able to max out all skills is incredibly bad design that negates any choice the player could possibly make.
