How about locating it around the Commonwealth? There were a great many references to in in Fallout 3, and some of the characters were rumoured to have gone there.
It opens up the options for androids and an androids rebellion.
It also allows for interesting tech to be introduced. things that may not have been pre war, or even pre-war tech, modded with commonwealth tech.
As for music, I agree, more! but here's an interesting idea, it doesn't all have to be circa 1940. Indie bands could be offered the opportuinty to produce and submit what they feel post-war music would become, Fallout would generate it's own styles, and original music. (That said, please keep the 40's era music as well. it makes the mood)
I would like to see vehicles added, the Highwayman, and the Humvee made life so much better in 2 and tactics.
An idea where you could customize the car too would be cool. If you have a HIghwayman, and you loot some Bighorner horns, or deathclaw horns, you should be able to attach them to the hood. or lift kits so the car handles better in the wastes, changing the paint colour, things like that.
Ditch the ammo system from New Vegas and keep that simple. I never used any of the special ammo, except when I was out of regular bullets.
Make the slienced weapons more useful. Being able to commit a sneak attack with a .50 cal rifle? hmmm...
I liked the idea previous about having it in Toronto, until I realized the C.N. Tower wasn't built until the 70's. Kinda takes the fun out of Toronto without it there...
Here's my take on Collectables:
Nuka-Cola goodies. The trucks are awesome, and I had a massive pile of them in FO3, but what about unique Nuka-Goodies? Unique trucks, or T-[censored], toys, dishes, anything.
(I'll admit, I was annoyed when *I* Couldn't have a nuka cola fridge too!)
A better improvised weapons system would be interesting too, like being able to consruct Zip-guns (Fallout New Vegas was supposed to have one as the first weapon I believe), and just put different junk together to make new things. The Dart Gun saved my can from deathclaws many-a-time in FO3.
As far as characters go, I'd like to see my main character come out of a vault. I didn't like the New Vegas character as much as the Vault Dweller characters.
- A side idea would be to have a choose a character system. It might only slightly modify the main story line, but you could be a vault starter, a brotherhood initiate, a tribal, an android escaping the commonwealth, or any number of other options.
Companions should be able to be given tasks when not in use. Rather than sitting around drinking your booze and eating your food in the Lucky 38, You should be able to set them with tasks like, Go Gather Ammo, or, Improve my standing with (x) - Faction
Another idea spawned from that idea - have a companion happiness system, the happier they are, the better they perform. If the fridge is stocked with food and booze, they are happier, if all you give them is rotting dog flesh, maybe not as much...
-DOGMEAT. Dogmeat must be a companion! (And it would be nice to be able to tell him to go wait in your home, rather than outside vault 101. )
I also see alot of "Better customization for player housing" posts. I agree with this as well. It'd be nice if I could choose where to place a container, or juke box, or bed if possible.
