Fallout 4: Speculation, Suggestions & Ideas - Thread #57

I want there to be handicap people (to be PC "Persons with persons with disabilities") in the next Fallout game. People with missing limbs or in wheelchairs. I would love for their to be a character that can't use his legs, but has a mobile platform made out of a Mr.Handy or Mr. Gutsy robot or out of a Robobrain

Ooooh someone who uses a Protectron to push them around in their wheelchair, that would be interesting for sure!

For some reason I just got a flashback of my fight with Dr Proton in Duke Nukem.

Seriously though, this is a cool idea.

I haven't read through the whole topic, so some suggestions maybe a repeat. If so, maybe something to look into.

I'd like to start off with some Pro's I think makes this series enjoyable.
-I liked the greater distance in FO:NV for sniping to engage enemies just as they're fading. Sometimes I like to go around only to engage in a distance. Maybe it has something to do with revamping the weapon spread, but I found sniping in FO3 abit off and not rewarding.
-I like both stories of both so far and played some of the origional Fallout to get the idea of how this series started. The pulp-fiction references are enjoyable; ex. Old World Blues first interaction was very funny. I figure that Ron Pearlman is going to asked to narrate for the next title. I think his voice fits well with the series.
-The idea of different ammo classes is great. Adding the ability to switch through ammo types quickly is a good, but sometimes is alittle clunky. I doubt there's much can be done with that. I say, keep it as is and work with it.
-The idea of the companion wheel was good, but the A.I. needs to be tweaked some so when asked to back off, he/she gives space. It's annoying when a companion gets in the way of fire or even engages enemies even on passive.
-I've noticed better draw lines. Distant objects should be seen with appropriate detail changes. I like seeing the landscape with the distance objects filling appropriately; You know, fitting the story.
-The idea of adding reputation with settlements is a good add. Better interaction and rewards with settlements can give more options when playing. Also can give the sense of an organic feel as if all NPC's are living with consequences and realizing it.
-Having more options to craft items like ammo is a good one. The problem is, most of the time, the components are very difficult to find or even to obtain. Better access would probably make better use of this system.

I think that is enough for right now. Here are some ideas to consider. Again, some of these may have already been suggested, but spending hours on hours reading through the post isn't going to be easy.

-I'm not sure if this can be done or not, but why isn't there a way to interact a PC with consoles? I read somewhere that is would very difficult to use the GECK program to mod the consoles. Would it be possible to make that happen through a mediary (like a external HDD)? I figure there would also be the issues of the console manufactors side to consider as well.
-I found the release of the DLC's to be inconsistant, mainly with the Courier's Stash. Maybe that could've been released first. I figure that other DLC's could released at the same time. Of course, that would depend on certain circumstances involving the current story.
-I'd like greater customization and crafting options. ex. searching for blueprint similar FO3, but expand to ordinarily used weapons, armor, ect. I mean there should more of a use of fission batteries. Every in-game item should have a use. It doesn't matter if it's a fork or crafting stimpacks.
-There definately needs to be a greater access to ingredients. I don't use alot craftable items since it's too difficult to obtain them. I liked the idea of the caravan train in FO3. We just need better access to those items. It would make sense that some items maybe rarer than others but not impossible.

There's abit to read here. Next post.

To add more suggeations......

-I'd like to see faction-on-faction interactions. ex. Raiders actually attacking a settlement and evem be a karma check or something. And may even have quests based on the karma choices as a consequence (side, misc, free).
-How about a way to completely negate irradiation. It could be chems &/or certain types of armor. These would have a temporary/equipable effect.
-There needs to be a teaking of the weapon spread. The first shot should the most accurate during quick successive shots. Plus be influenced by movement. The weapon spread is fine, but maybe add those two ideas.
-Why isn't the some kind vehicle option. There are very few instances where your charcter gets tranported. If the setting of the next title will be somewhere near or in San Fran., then why not make use of the train system or something.
-I would if the story can coincide with the events of FO:NV. As the story continues, you'd hear updates according to your choices made in FO:NV.
-There definately needs to be less loading scenes. I'll go out on a limb and say that may help with some certain bugs people experience in the game. Yes, there is alot of information. But with that, there alot room for misplacement and other issues. The game may be more stable. Plus, I'd like to look outside windows of places I bought or whatever maybe the case. That could change the way we interact with the envirnoment and may even make it more challenging to sneak. I don't know how it works, but, it looks as there's a generic surface map and the area to be loaded is selected then the details, textures, ext. are loaded next. Reminds me of while play Skyrim. I was in Whiterun and found a gapping whole in the main gate and jumped through. I ran for awhile and figured if I wandered too far, my game may crash. I saw as far as I could as if I was outside the city fully loaded only without the full textures.
-Maybe there can be more settlements like Arefu.
-Make a difference between D.R. and D.T.=> say may D.R. the natural resistance and D.T. based on armor efficiency.
-I definately would like to see containers refill, especially in areas frequented by a populace.

*A tweak to the weapon maintenance system.
-Implement a "dirty" system on top of wear, as a weapon gets dirty it increases the chance for a misfire or jam. And keeping a gun clean could also reduce the speed in which it wears out.

Make it more difficult to repair a weapon, and give more value to the repair skill.

*Tweak the jamming system.
-Allow guns to randomly jam when firing, not just reloading. And have the player to manually clear the jam, like in farcry 2.
-Allow for different types of jams like failure to feed, failure to eject, and even seizing of the mechanisms if the gun is too worn or dirty.

*Implement a penetration system.
-Allow rounds to pass through appropriate objects. Like a .50 MG would easily pass through a few foes, or a .44 Magnum FMJ would pass through the unprotected skull of a raider and into their friend's eyeball.

Have stealth work at all times. It was pretty annoying to have the boomers still shoot at me despite the fact that
A. I was using a stealth boy
B. I was far away from them (at the train tracks that carress [sic] the base)

Let me start off with fallout is the greatest game ever. that said i would like to see some changes such as
  • better flow with the voice actors, some of them are saying there lines rather then speaking. almost sounds mono tone.
  • more out of the blue comedy i.e. walk into a room and a guy siting at the desk says "wana see a magic trick". he then pulls the pin on a string of grenades and says "now you see me". the grenades explode and just after the debrie falls to the ground a tape deck on a string comes down into view saying "now you dont". or like the sucide chamber with the killer happy robots in fallout new vagis
  • Dr. Von Bron and his simulaters where a great idea mabe more locals as DLCs. i was sad to see the sims in new vagis not working but i can understand why.
  • Some sort of transport. to stick with the story line mabe a wind, soler or man powerd shoping kart or buggey even a bike would do
  • more custom wepons I.E. tack lights, under slung g launcher,or bayinet, if i could strap a chain saw to a bike or ect it would add mods for such
  • More custom home products such as floor plan, size, trophy and collection room (for the things like the nukacola truck or rare guns).tv like the one on the darkness that plays a1950s movie that i sat and watched rather then play the game, robot ( the MR Gustey in fallout 3 was awsome but he needs more purpis and jokes)that cleans up puts things on shelves.
  • More level ups, perks, wepons, hidden snow globes ect, skill books, neat things such as rare and decrotive items.
  • The vaults should be less boring and darker it would be great if they were haunted.
  • Large structures like rivet city make for great scenic spots whitch would go great with a camera the works.
  • better card games. a good one would be robco robots batteling.
I will have more tomorrow

Like that other guy said
When you kill someone they can blow up and limps would fly everywhere
So why cant an enemy get his right hand shot off by the playerwhile he still alive?
That would open so much gameplay options

Pip boy in the Brain..Cyborg tech is established in the fallout universe so this can work..It would allow a seamless and flexible UI. Plus it actually can make VATs seam like a realistic system. it's is in direct contact tour brain so your reaction times and eyesight are enhanced.

I have a bunch of ideas, so I'll get started.

1. I know it's post-apocalyptic but civilization has had 200 years and not much has changed, all I want from this is more NPC's around, or at least, the settlements to be busier and more urgent. Take Megaton (using Fallout 3 because I imagine Fallout 4 will have more in common with that than it will Fallout 1 or 2) as an example, they claimed that there were no spaces to live, and it was crowded, yet there were barely 20/30 people in the entire place, I want to feel the claustrophobia and urgency of it all, I want it to feel more apocalyptic and stressful. I want to actually feel the urgency for things like water and food, not two random encounters of people asking for some water throughout the entire game. Simply put, make the settlements busier, make the cities more like cities, people have had time to re-inhabit places, and don't just make them all raiders.

2. A different species. I've thought of two ways you could start the game as either a ghoul or a super mutant. The ghoul beginning being: you could be a vault scientist, working with the reactor for extended periods of time, the humans will never have seen a ghoul before, so when you are fully "transformed" they banish you into the wastes out of fear and disgust, leaving you to fend for yourself, looking for any sign of life, or settlement. This could either lead a slow and side-quest orientated build up, with good knowledge of surroundings and obvious tension, or you could settle into somewhere, be sent on a routine mission and be captured by a faction (a new faction) who capture you after finding out you are a scientist and require you, or simply imprison you, you have to escape with someone, blah blah blah things get interesting. The super mutant is something I would love, basically the game could start with you just waking up, looking around and seeing you're almost on an assembly line, and you can't get out (note you're still human at this point). You're then carried through what seems like a factory of humans, and you hear screams and see super mutants and various other abominations, listening to their conversations on the way. From listening you'll hear the names of other factions and major characters, the only recurring faction I would accept is the BoS as they've been in it for so long, but a new, more powerful style of Enclave, or a new The Master style programme, possibly even one super mutant overlord controlling more intelligent strains of super mutant. As you reach the end of your journey you approach a huge tank of green fluid (FEV to anyone whose played any Fallout ever) and you are submerged. your health drops and your rads go off the chart but you don't die. You feel the controller shake but you can't tell if it's just your character shaking and dismiss it, but in reality a new faction will have broken through and will be in a battle with the super mutants, you are pulled out of the FEV, and you weren't in there for the right amount of time, so you're not full Super Mutant, just half way there. You retain a lot of the facial appearance as you would have set when a super mutant confirms your identity along the way of the assembly line, but your skin has changed, and you look like a slightly smaller Marcus. Obviously from there you talk to the people who freed you as you recover, and they'll eventually set you free once healthy.

Although that may seem very linear, that's just how it starts, and you can go anywhere from there, you would have to deal with the bigotry of the wasteland, the benefits of rad resistance, etc. It could be very, very interesting.

3. More Vault communities, too much exploration of dilapidated Vaults has gotten tiresome, I want to meet some communities.

4. I like what others have said about being able to incapacitate people through decapitation, being able to shoot someones lower leg off, giving you the option to finish them off, or interrogate if necessary, or just leave to die, all for different karma or something, also if that happened to your own faction, being able to heal them.

5. More weapon modification, not set things, I want to be able to put a knife on the handle of a pistol if I want, also allowing you to use your guns as melee weapons for up close and personal situations would be a lot more fluid than switching to a melee weapon.

6. Make V.A.T.S a treat, in other words, you shouldn't rely on it, you should have to earn action points through other kills, or they should just not regenerate as quickly.7

7. Make clothing more diverse, split it into 3 sections if necessary, legs, torso and head, that would be a great feature.

8. A car should be able to be built, just like Fallout 2, either that, or an above ground mono-rail that you can repair. Something that could explain fast travel or avoid walking through those pesky tunnels.

9. New factions, I don't want the Legion or anything regurgitated into this, give us a new environment, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, whatever, but bring new factions with it.

10. Make speech more fluid, the person shouldn't be so static, bring more life to the animation when speaking.

I'll stop now because I've gotten hugely carried away and have rambled.

Going along with Style's handicapped people in the wasteland, I'd also like to see people with minor mutations, but not necessarily as if they're going to become a ghoul (which would be nice to see someone laid up and their hair falling out, and skin falling away). Something where they've got a sixth finger jutting out of the top of their hand, or one eye is larger than the other, and things like that would be nice to see. Maybe have a guy just with a hunchback. Not from mutation or a dramatic disability, but just because he was born like that. A good variety in NPCs appearances is just what I want.

I have had a few ideas for the Pip Boy.

At the start of the game you get a basic Pip Boy 3000 with no flashilight, wrist attachment, VATS (it slows down the enemies but doesn't pause them), or fast travel.

All of these features can be purchased as upgrades, 200 of ___ currency for the flashlight, 400 for the wrist attachment, 1,500 for VATS, and 2,000 for fast travel.

Out of all of these upgrades I probably would only use fast travel for conveniance in between towns.

And there would also be some new ones such as a laser sight upgrade (2,500) which has a laser sight shoot from the Pip Boy which can be used with any gun.

If we end up being a Cyborg or Android in the Institute........We wake up and realize someone rebuilt us.

Oh no.....you wake up from (character creator/ robotics expert tinkering on you) and in a room full of android parts.

But that mirrors to much with the shot in the head almost dead intro in New Vegas.

Yeah forget I said anything.

Suggestions:

  • Realistic Mode: Everything is very realistic; eating, sleeping, drinking, bullet drop, bullet penetration, destructible enviroment, bodies left decay, real guns, brand names( or do what GTA with sprite and make up something similiar "sprunk"), realistic fighting, etc.
  • When you shoot someone in the head or any other body part, the body should react realistically. ( head should not pop off, there should be a bullet hole in the head depending on the caliber of the bullet.)
  • Story should be darker, like fallout 3. I felt it was more serious and felt more emotionally compelling.
  • I should not be able to run sideways and forward at the same time.... enough said.
  • It should not take so many bullets to kill someone, when I shoot an unarmored combatant with a 1911 point blank in the face, he is not going to live and he is not going to be able to draw his weapon and attack me.
  • Obsidian svcks at making storylines......
  • Dont go to New York or Hong Kong. Id rather play in antarctica than there.
  • Now that I cant tell if the brotherhood is good or not, Im probably going to kill them all in the next game as well.... thanks.
  • Don't do what I have a bad feeling your going to do and make the next one a continuation using the same character in Fallout New Vegas. I think this because of Jason Bergmans comment when he said, " The Mojave was fun wasn't it?". Also when at the end of the endgame slides in New vegas where it says the couriers road came to an end.... for now..... thats not comforting at all.
  • We need to play through the characters birth in the next game, it creates deeper understanding of who you are playing as rather than leaving unkowns about the character. Knowing the background of the character in fallout 3 created a deeper feel to the game which is why many are under the psycological effect of the last game being better, including me.
  • I hate being a mailman, its very degrading.
  • Having a interest in a girl such as fallout 3 made me feel bad about leaving he vault without her. Though I think that may have been a negative effect, as I dont want to think about that while im trying to enjoy fallout.
  • The Mojave and its location were boring, and I felt as if the bombs never happened and fallout 3 was a different game.
  • The DLC for new vegas was incredibly dissapointing.
  • Obsidian really svcks at making storylines.... did I mention that already?
  • The following guns need to be in the game and modifiable as real firearms would be: AK47, AK74, M4, M16, 1911, P226, MAKAROV, MCMILLAN TAC .50, etc. ( just please dont ruin them as you did in previous fallout games, dont put wood stocks when it shouldnt be wood. etc.)
  • What the hell is the 10mm pistol?! That is truly the ugliest gun ive ever seen even thought up.
  • There so much more great ideas I have that would require me to go into great detail and show you a real life example but I would have to be paid for it.

Suggestions:
  • Obsidian svcks at making storylines......

A couple of things:

1) Put your writting in a normal sized font.

2) Obsidian is fantastic at making storylines. If you played all of the Fallout games you would know that Fallout 3 was just a mash up of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 thrown into DC with no explanation other than that's in their local area (see Bethesda Ruins) which became riddled with plotholes.

Obsidian's New Vegas was a masterpiece of a story driven RPG which many Bethesda fans are unfamiliar with. I was (excluding Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 which happens to also be made by Obsidian) until I was convinced to play the Originals.

Your comment has no bases and thus is invalid.

3) All of my brain power became focused on this comment so I was unable to respond to the rest of the post. Also the font size hurts my eyes.

Obsidian did a craptastic job with the main quest, same with most of the quests. Of course I mean New Vegas.
