Fallout 4: Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas

Thread #20

This topic is for ideas and suggestions for Fallout 4 so that we can keep all the discussion in one thread. Other very general idea/suggestion topics for a future Fallout game will either be closed, or moved to this one.

This thread should be used to discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play, which already has a thread. Please search first to see if there is an active/recent thread on a particular topic.

This repost is a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost.

I would like Talon Company to be in Fallout 4, but not like they were in Fallout 3, I want it to be like the factions of New Vegas, with interaction and reputation. My logic is that, in a post-nuclear world like Fallout, an entity like the Talon Company would flourish into tremendous presence, even more so in areas where no large factions had developed to create order. I mean, the Talon Company is a perfect example of the perfect post-apocolyptic business model, a moderatly sized, well-equiped paramilitary force that would be deployed at the word and monetary expense of wealthy people or groups to vy for power. I dont understand how there are no other factions like them, the Talon Company should be in Fallout 4, it fits well in the setting and, frankly, the poor usage of a faction with such potential in Fallout 3 left a bad taste in my mouth, and, seeing how very well Obsidian did with factions in Fallout: New Vegas, really fleshing them out with backgrounds and interactions, I have no doubt that, if Bethesda takes some pointers from New Vegas's handling of factions, they could be a great faction in Fallout 4.

Talon Company

Talon Company is an equal opportunity employer. Talon Company is a mercenary group who has almost no restrictions on contracts, making it one of the most effective, and therefore wealthiest and best equipped, mercenary group known to exist in the wasteland, it's Regional HQ's are usually pre-war military installations, and the technical department of Talon Company is known for achieving great technological discoveries, such as the activation of Highwater Trousers. The basic Talon Mercenary is equipped with a suit of Talon Company Combat Armor, a 5.56mm R91 Urban Assault Rifle, and a Combat Knife or Police Baton, mercenaries are allowed to use their pay to purchase other weapons from any Talon Company Armory, weapons available range from the 5.56mm Type-93 Chinese Assault Rifle to the AER9 Laser Rifle to the feared Missile Launcher.

Mercenaries that prove their mettle in battle stand a chance to be promoted to Squad Leader rank and given Reinforced Talon Company Combat Armor Mk. 1 and will be in charge of a squad of 5 basic Talon Mercenaries. Another great charactaristic of the Talon Company is its orginazation, 5 Mercs and a Squad Leader make up a squad, 5 squads are led by a Talon Company Veteran Mercenary, whom wear Reinforced Talon Company Combat Armor Mk. 2 with a stylish duster, and all Veteran Mercenaries report to their respective Regional Commander. An added benefit of being a part of the Talon Company is that the Company will pay off any bounty (up to 10000 caps) for a mercenary that proves that they are loyal and can pass the recruitment tests. The training process is specially administered to weed out the weak and instill loyalty in the strong, bringing out the best in your character, defeating the worst of it. Many rumors float about, saying that the Company is "evil" or "full of maniacs", this is simply not the case, the Talon Company just doesn't pass moral judgment on those who would wish to emply Talon Mercenaries, and who needs to bog down good business with morals in the wasteland? Dispite the rumors, Talon Company does in no way practice sixual discrimination, mercenary applicants are accepted from all walks of life if they can prove themselves.

Thanks to the BoS-Enclave War, Talon Company has come into possession of a large amount of Enclave equipment and have captured some researchers, you can bet we shot those fascists! But other than the killing of those that wanted to kill all of your friends and family, the experience has also created a new rank in the Talon Company, an alternative to becoming a Squad Leader, the Talon Company Shocktrooper wears specially customized Talon Company Advanced Power Armor Mk. 2 and comes equipped with a Minigun, Gatling Laser, or Heavy Incinerator!

The Talon Company has from then gained strength, called for an end to hostilities with the BoS, and is focusing on fighting the Super Mutants, once again fighting those who would kill your friends, pets, neighbors, and all of your family.

Join Talon Company, it's exciting, worthwhile, enriching (both in experience and monetarily), and the best way to truly broaden your horizon!

Any person who wishes to join Talon Company only has to speak to your local Talon Company representative, from them you can negotiate on the purchase of mercenary contracts, or speak to them about joining Talon Company.

A different kind of ending. I don't like big boss finales, not just in Fallout but many story driven games are spoilt by them, BioShock for instance. The game does need to reach a climix but instead of that being followed by the end credits, follow it with a sit down with whichever faction or individual the player has sided with and have a discussion about the fate of the area. Then role the credits.

Some hair styles are locked out for gender purposes, I want that lock to be unlocked.

Well the hair is female or male only because of the meshes. If you were to add a female hairstyle to a male through a mod now, it would most likely clip horribly. I have a feeling that they will use the same (or similar) methods in the future, so don't get your hopes up. Also, if they were to do this and didn't make a new hair system, they'd have to adjust each hair mesh, and IMO that's just something they shouldn't bother with.

I know it won't happen but I would like a series of Fallout games based on how each major faction gets started (CL, BOS, NCR ect...), and have the opportunity to be part of forming each one.

I would like to see a fallout that is much much bigger than previous fallout games, perhaps spanning 3 or 4 discs with add-ons to follow. i would like to see either fallout europe, fallout u.k., fallout middle east or far east, fallout eurasia. the game will cover many many cities and countries players can utilise horses cammels and most kind of vehiclesas well as traveling by foot. also i think maybe they should make a fallout to be playable online if it is a very large game. what do you guys think?

There's never going to be a fallout outside of America. doing so would destroy the whole setting and theme of Fallout.

Personally I want a game that covers some of the area of Texas through Florida and Florida up to West Virginia. That's a giant span of America that has yet to be explored.

However I NEVER want to go back to the Mid-west, its been done already and we don't need it again.

I don't think that it would destroy the theme at all cause the uk has american miltary and air force bases, so it would or could be a good launch pad for future fallout games.

What would be the story? There would be no Vaults, no FEV, none of the mutants we know, no Enclave or BoS, not that they have to be there for it to be Fallout, but their presence in the past had a profound effect on the present.

look these are just ideas, i'm not a programer or anything guys but i,ll try put something down for you. Firstly the uk will have bunkers ( vaults) perhaps the enclave or BoS or maybe the remnants could have been sent over from the US to give support to us troops here to help hold and keep uk from falling into enemy hands, then the bombs fell across the world causing the uk to be one of the first to fall. Animals form zoos escape and over time mutate into fierce monsters not to mention the human element that mutates.

The US and UK weren't allies at the time of the Great War, the US closed its borders and Europe broke down into a bunch of infighting nation states.

IIRC Alistar Tenpenny was added to Fallout 3 as a hint to how bad the rest of the world is. He came to a nuked America becuase it was better then England.

I don't think we will ever see a Fallout game outside America but we will see some hints as to how some other parts of the world are doing.

i'd just like to throw out there... i think a cool game mechanic could be basically to have a lot of mini-games... like for everything you do - you actually have to go through the process of making a meal, or repairing/making a weapon (or robot!)... i'm seeing them as playing like a first person version of Heavy Rain, where you have to push bottons in sequence and move the controller in certain ways that mimic what your character is doing - they should be easy though, and relatively quick... just a fun little addtion, perhaps even one you can skip (maybe like the game does rate you on your performance and once you've done a particular type of armor/weapon/whatev., you can automatically do it every other time, but only as well as your highest score? i just always think the more you can put it in the game, the more you can make me feel like i'm realy a part of that world, and i think this is a great way to do that. dunno if anyone's played metal gear..... 3? i dunno, anyway i know that in that game it was uber-realistic about dealing with wounds, where you would actually have to go into a mini-game to remove bullets, sew cuts, etc. .... something like that for hardcoe mode is interesting.

ALSO...

i'd like a bedroll / tent, and the ability to "set camp" in the wasteland... survival skill could augment some of the benefits of your camp (well rested bonus, perhaps whether or not you get a campfire... also, there could be a random encounter element where if you sleep, there is a chance that local creatures / raiders happen upon you, and high survival skill could reduce the chance of such an encounter?)

ALSO...

i was thinking (maybe just for hardcoe mode)... you shouldn't be able to repair weapons/armor while just walking around in the wasteland. it should either have to be done at a bench, or perhaps at your tent (!) (perhaps depending on suvival/repair skill?) i also don't think you should be able to just eat food and drink water and stuff while in battle... similar to the way you cant "wait" while there are enemies nearby. you can take stimpaks, but i'd also like to see actions to go along with consuming any item...chems, food, alchohol, water, etc... actions that could perhaps be interrupted by damage. another function of setting camp could be to provide an increase to benefits of consumables.

ALSO...

gonna say it one more time, cause i just gotta... expand the map significantly (maybe twice the size?) just put in vast tracks of true wasteland, and make getting to and from places early on to be very difficult. then add cars, and the ability to repair and upgrade them... but also make the parts to do so rare, so that they can't just be used willy-nilly. also the ability to hire pack brahmin, mercs to protect them, and become a roving trader/scavenger.

ALSO...

i was just thinking, how about New Orleans as a spot for the next Fallout? I don't know about any lore regarding that area, but i just think there's all kinds of cool cultural elements that could really make for an interesting post-apocalyptic adventure... the music, the culture, mardi gras, the "indians", and then have a bit of bayou in there and get in all that cool voodoo and stuff...

Repost:
Spoiler

I had an idea for a faction and two weapons.

Ok, in the thread Moving Past Pre War tech somebody mentioned the possibility of a vault with scientists qnd engineers in it. They could've had a GECK and built a city similar to Vault City. That idea helped me come up with this faction.

It's a city made from Vault 61 (I don't think that number was used yet) called the Tech Hub. They are in southern Michigan and had spent most of their time in the Vault and out building new tch and improving on prewar tech. Here are two weapons they made:

Improved Laser Rifle-
Is slightly more accurate, holds more ammo (has the ammo stickin off of both sides of the laser rifle) and has a little bit more power. The drawbacks are that it has less range, some kick, and breaks down a lot easier.

Double Barrled Plasma Rifle-
Basically what it sounds like, a plasma rifle with two barrels, less accuarcy, and holds less ammo.

If the MWBoS and this faction are in the game there is a choice to improve their bitter relationship (The Tech Hub steals plasma rifles, laser rifles, and ammo from MWBoS caravans and MWBoS spies try to steal the blueprints for their improved weaponry) and an ending slide would say how the MWBoS annexed the Tech Hub and used their advanced weapons as the standard weapons of their army.

Another choice would make the MWBoS weaker and would cause the Tech Hub to expand into a superpower in the MW.

Also I would like to see terrifying creatures, unique to the area of the next game.

I also cam up with a map of the are in the MW I think F4 should take up (if possible with the new engine, I doubt it though)...

i don't like the idea of a rhythm based crafting system, id rather just drop the meat onto a frying pan and wait a second rather than playing Simon. but in general I'm all for having bot a 'twitch' solution and a 'dice' solution to most actions, use the 'hands one/twitch' method of making something if that easier for you, or a menu system if that's easier.

for camps that really requires a need to set up a camp rather than simply 'passing the time' if for instance there are dangerous creatures lurking in the dark (ala minecraft) than i could see a reason for setting up camp rather than simply walking to the next settlement to sleep.

limiting the use of food/drink in combat should be done via an occupied hand type system in which if you're in battle and decide to take a drink of whatever you won't be able to use iron sight aiming and you'll be highly inaccurate until you finish consuming the item, include animation obviously. but regarding the ability to repair only with a bench, i think it should only effect the quality of repairs, not the ability to repair.

in terms of vehicles i certainly agree that they should be rare in the story line include a quest to get a clunker up and running, something vary remedial like a motorcycle and if the player wants a better ride they'll have to do similar tasks to the original quest
