My biggest gripe with Fallout 3 was what I thought was a lack of diverse characters. I mentioned this in the New Vegas thread but I don't mean character appearance, I'm just looking for some memorable characters. I think it would make the immersion infinitely better.


Agreed. The most memorable character was, for better or worse, Moira Brown. Every other character wasn't very memorable at all.

Doc Church - grumpy burnt-out medic
Colin Moriarty - corrupt, wise-cracking irish pub-keeper
Mr. Burke - mysterious, misanthropic entrepreneur.
Bittercup - strange, pessimistic goth girl lost in her own morbid imagination
Mr. Crowley - human-hating ghoul with historical ties to many powerful wasteland figures
Allistair Tenpenny - wealthy, eccentric elderly englishman, exploiting his wealth to live comfortably in a post apocalyptic hell.


there's 6 characters that i'll never forget....pretty memorable if you ask me. you just have to really contemplate the characters in the game...

I would like a third person system like gears of war or uncharted because the third person in fallout 3 svcked I mean when the camera angle was bad but first person should still be available

- No end game
- Perks every 3 levels, less skill points per level and no level cap
- More useful and balanced characteristic, think charisma or Agility outside VATS
- New schematic system, maybe associated other skill then repair, all the non basic items in the games should be creatable. Jet with Medecine, etc.
- New followers system based on charisma. At least, less stupid followers and more numerous.
- The mysterious stranger could be something like in FarCry 2 when the follower jump out of nowhere to help you.
- The healing system in FarCry 2 or Call of Cthulhu should be something to be inspired from.
- More complex armor customization, think morrowind
- No lock cant be unlock EVER
- Fast travel based on stationnary cars, no direct control of any vehicule EVER! Building a car like in fallout 2 would be cool too!
- No Multiplayer EVER (nothing is good as NWN1 for that anyway)
- Better sneak and stealth kill
- Perks: more, better, balanced
- Monster levelling: no monster health upgrade
- No generic big monster should survive 3 nuke blast headshot, no small generic ennemie without helmet should survive any headshot
- Better mini game without stupid level restriction
- No dialogue only perks
- Dice poker based on luck
- Psychic power perks
- VATS Headshot should be harder so we can find interest in shooting elsewere
- I was about to write no VATS at all, but it give the game too much flavour. Don't like VATS? Play something else.
- More realistic weight for the stuff
- All in all, it should be a little more close to fallout 2 and games like morrowind (but the Oblivion voice acting), arcanum and system shock 2, etc... A mix of all the greatest ideas of all the greatest rpg and hybrid shooter with one big Fallout flavour...

I would like to see two of the possible choices.
1. introduction to customizable vehicles, possibly allow player to drive only, ranging from simple scout motocylces (used only for speeding across the wastelands) to maybe armored trucks(. optional mounted armaments.) i also like to add if vehicles were able to be added to the game there should be some challenges along the way, for one new opponents, searching for fuel sources, possibilities that the vehicle will explode if enduring too much damage, frequent repair (welding minigame?), maybe serve as the players own caravan (who know maybe a mobile home base)
2. maybe the ability to set up a temporary home/town/base. after all it is somewhat of a survival game, i just thought it would be a good feature to have. especially when you can keep followers nearby to stay awhile but there will occationally be problems ranging from frequent attacks to other possible problem causing the players to reconsider to relocate else where, but it doesn't mean they have to, instead maybe the ability to set up a defensive system to prevent them from happening, barbed wires, turrents, hired defenders, and others that you see fit. not to mention that at certain place there will be numerous benifits such as large but limited supplies of natural resources and other things that players may need or want. also i believe if you were to use this idea, you might want to consider using diplomacy among other settlements or wanders.
and i hope the weapon add on features stay scopes, scilencers, and extended magazine clips and whatever else that can be add on to weapons. and build homemade weapons. other than that i just hope the game will still be cool

Can we have more location bigger map ? more quest, maybe this time is European / Russian, simply because they have great architecture. the art work of your AI is amazing. I bought it the new game not the counterfiet as for my support for the next Fallout 4.

What I want is :
1 ) more option guns ( upgradeable with the visualization changes in gun itself, the gun must look different after upgrade )
2 ) more location ( bigger maps, variety, city, jugle, etc )
3 ) more realistic ( the monster, enemies, I don't see any flying bird ? )
4 ) real life interiror design and location ( i think for all Fallout is the same )
5 ) do more just finding a father, what if work alone to gather resourse to survive and make the hometown better place. not just killing a enemy, but with a purpose of surviving.
6 ) changing the weather, winter, summer, rainning, foggy it should be more challenging. it makes the player hard to find anything.
7 ) it allowed to gather the parts, to fix the motor cycle, car, generator for electric, gather the gasoline.
8 ) give me alot of surprised and let the player spent months to finish the game.

Give me the best Bethesda ! i will buy the new of your product, never copy counterfiet.

They did not really have any major bases all around the USA. They had the Oil Rig as the main base of operations, which they did not even leave until after Fallout 1, then Navarro as the only major inland base, as well as some other, minor outposts. Then, when the Oil Rig was destroyed, John Henry Eden used it to claim presidency and order all remaining Enclave forces to the East Coast. Where they were defeated again. After FO2, FO3 and Broken Steel, they should not really exist as a major force, although there are still likely some broken remnants of the Enclave here and there.

And even if we were to assume that they still exist, they should not be used as main antagonists in future games. Using them twice, with basically the same plan, was enough.

The enclave were based all over the U.S if look into what they say in the games it says they fled goverment officals and military all over to secret locations all over the U.S and there is still some form of congress which means they can elect a new president 2 major bases destroyed because the companys didnt give anyone the option to join them. i planted the F.E.V in the water and what do i get for it.. nothing.. i still get shot by the enclave and i destroyed the pentagon what do i get oh i know STILL SHOT by my favorite faction rediculous and there are still ALOT of facilities they could occupy and rebuild there forces. Not to mention that canada was annexed there would be military bases all over that area aswell and who in there right mind is stupid enough to believe that theres only 1 oil rig in the entire world seriously...

just came to me

how about if u can chose your back story which just changes the starting tutorial and how people talk to u (like dragonage origins)

1 could be a vault dweller start the same as fallout 3
2nd could be that your born in the wasteland town and maybe in gets attaced by slavers so u hav to leave (making for a interesting side mission to save your family)
3rd could be your born prewar and end up turning into a goul by the atomic bombs (could show ure self turning into a goul slowly)
4th maybe u could be born into the enclave for ppl who know theyre goin to be evil or born into the BOS for those who know theyre goin to be good
5th orphan in the big city

ooo plus how about if u need to eat and drink or ull die
make it feel like u actually have to survive in the wastelandby finding something to eat and drink
itll also make resturants in the game actually have a point to them

just a thought

just want to point out one thing the BOS arent in anyway shape or form (good) they are just tech hunters..

Not sure if anyone else likes this but I willl say it anyway,as I think it belongs in this Thread. take the Settlment system from the RTS mod and Upgrade it.I mean really,I go in and clear out a building and what do I get,some junk,ammo,and guns that Are useless to me becuase I have better gear. Ex.Grayditch,you should have been able to take charge,bring in more people,Hire guards etc.etc.! and there should definetly be something like the Merchant Empire quest in the next game.

Fallout 3 was an amazing game. It took the series to a new horizon. But it was lacking in the custom weapons department. The Railway rifle was amazing, and the Deathclaw Gauntlet was really awesome. But I think what would help out drastically is a more "customizable" set of weapons. Finding parts that would be basis for every gun ,and they would require some of these parts. Different parts could add different effects to the gun, like elemental damage, a bigger clip, explosive bullets ect. This would work much like enchantments in Oblivion.

I think this would bring a new level of depth to the game, and make it much more enjoyable.

As far as future DLC for any Fallout game goes I think the setting of Centralia, PA would be a fitting place for a little DLC area. If you dont know about Centralia look it up. Check out both the story and the pictures, the whole town and countryside pretty much look like an apocalypse. I'm sure you can cook up something really nice with that setting.

Yeah, but after the nukes have gone off, would anyone be able to tell the difference?

If I remember correctly, without having to look it up, theres only a few buildings left standing these days? The pictures I have seen though, much of the landscape is very Fallout-esque.

A new engine with "Real Time Turn Based system", eyecandy like shadows, physics, proper 3rd person implementation, animations, etc and especially proper role playing elements are all I want.

What's a realtime turned based system? Look at Neverwinter Nights. Or Ufo Afterlight. They still feel like you are building your strategy, but it's different from a Turned Based Shooter or a hack'n slash game. All the action is happening at the same time, and you can pause the game.

I'm all for having a new engine, but it's highly likely they won't add full turn based system. For most people, ie the people who bought fallout 3 and haven't heard of the other games, fallout is an fpsrpg - the people associate fallout with that genre, so Bethesda would likely piss off a whole load of it's customers by changing the combat. And pissed off customers = less money.

These companies don't just cater for the hardcoe fans, so it would be a stupid move on their part. Sure, even if a turn based system is used well, the mention of the term 'turn-based' will drive potential buyers away as for a lot of people it has very negative (or positive, depending on your taste) associations with JRPGs. And there are plenty of people who HATE them. Me being one of them. Personally, I don't mind either combat styles - but if they are to keep going as an FPSRPG, then the fps part of combat NEEDS to be improved to match other games. Right now, it's just

1) find enemy
2) spray him with the million bullets needed to kill him
3) spam stimpaks
4) if in doubt, turn on god-mode (aka VATS) and finish them off

IT NEEDS TO CHAAANNNGEEE!!

I would love a DLC to return to the town of Los and visit the secret vault, but what i want the most is a visit to the commonwealth. Futuristic weapons and possibley an android ally would be really cool for the game

Something I would like to see is the ability to create your own settlement. After X number of levels you get the option of clearing out one of a few locations and once that is done can make it a permanent settlement. The type of people that show up will be determined by your Karma level. If you are evil, raiders and slavers show up looking to join up with the character. If you are good, merchants and civilians show up. You can recruit named characters from around the world to join you, send raiders out on missions, your settlement be attacked by raiders or people from other towns looking for your raiders.


I agree with that completely i had the same idea just a little different. my idea was that you would be able to sort of land claim. with this you could claim an area of land and build it up as you see fit by adding buildings putting up walls recruiting guards even buying robots for around town or guarding from a robo-vendor. just think about all those gas stations in FO3 that you can clean up but to no avail it's still dark and no body comes and you cant live there. but with my idea you could claim an area but in order to build things on your newly claimed area you would either have to buy supplies or find/salvage the pieces and the quality or amount of materials would change the building. so instead of those weird metal shacks you could build a building like the ones in megaton and if you have even higher quality materials you could build buildings more like the ones at the gas stations. like the quote says the people you attract would be based on your karma and if you wanted you could have people pay rent for the buildings but the citizens may leave if either the rent gets to high or you go mad with power or what ever. all of your buildings would take several days to build depending or how many people you hire for the job. one thing you could do in your city is set up shopping that either you or an NPC run. if you run it then you make caps if they run it then they make caps but all stores would need your approval before opening. you would also be able to name your business and open multiples around the wastes in other cities. this would be helpful because in FO3 i had a problem earning caps and this would fix it. so you could start a business in other cities only if you have enough caps to start then to add things to your inventory you need to buy things or find them then add them to your stock box like in FO3. the walls in your town could vary greatly in both security and aesthetics. the walls could be something like a chain link fence or the could be similar to the ones surrounding old olney or with the right supplies like the ones around megaton. if you found the right supplies then you could also build things like motes, spike pits, just spikes in general (see big town in FO3), and barriers out of cars maybe even lights, upper decks for defense or sniper towers all to defend your settlement. by saluaging things like flood lights you could light up both the inside of the individual buildings, the out side as watch lights or the inside as just general illumination like megaton. also applying to buildings, if you were to kill all the inhabitants you could the claim the building as your own and do the same BUT you could not claim an already owned property like you could not just go claim tenpenny tower until you killed every body living there. i would like to see the just maybe simpler than i explained (not very good with words or expressing ideas)

also if you do not have caps but need them then what you could do is go get a job some where as like a bouncer, salesman, chef, mechanic, raider,mercenary etc. to name a few


if you agree with this idea either fully or even just a little (keep in mind it would be optional) reply or comment just mention it in some way so it will get considered by bethesda for Fallout New Vegas.

i'd like to see multiple "eras" being covered, weather it be through "simulations", multiple characters(family tree with carrying over stats), or something else. for example be able to play as one of the first exploration teams out of any vault, the establishment of certain settlements, etc.

I agree whole heartely with your comment. It's a great idea, and and even better chance for PC's to use their characters attributes. The karma Idea is good, never thought of that one, evil = antagonist, good = protagonist, neutral = ? common people looking just to survive.

I do like the job idea as well,

Here's a note:
If you can recruit a doctor, more people may want to come to the territory
Repairman could be recruited, fixing pre-war junk like power sources, enabling turret usage, or lights
scientist for clean water and education(farming?)
Loyalist's to do thy bidding... I like this one
Militia to defend
weapon and armour smiths(like Flak,Shrapnel, and dude from Potomic Atire in Rivet City, Fallout 3)


Building an empire, community or more of a home as I like to think, is by far thee most enjoyable part of any games I've played. I've no control of what happens at my home as far as decor or structure and it burns me inside. Being able to do so really releases an insurmoutable amount of stress, so yeah, bring on the excellence.

I am speaking strictly from a Xbox360 player stand point.

I would like to see the V.A.T.S. system remain.

A drivable vehicle would certainly be nice to have.
(If they can build a vertibird, why can't someone {or my character} fix a car, motorcycle, ultra light, or even a bicycle for that matter? {I really like the ultralight idea})

My biggest pet-peeve is a game that gives you, let's say, 50 perks and 50 abilities/attributes/skills but forces you to reach a final character level that doesn't allow you to achieve all of them up to 100%.
(What is the harm in having a 100% maxed-out character if I choose to put in the time to do it?)

I would also like to see more combat commands for party members.
Things like:
-Flank left/right
-Snipe
-Shield Me
-Diversion
-Stay Behind Me.

Finally, Dogmeat.
It simply must have Dogmeat in it. (or one of his descendants)
I am a dog person, so personally, I would like a bit more interaction with him.
-More commands: Combat and social commands.
-Physical interaction: Petting Dogmeat and giving him treats/food items.

That's my 2 cents worth.

There is harm if you pretty much can't avoid maxing out your skills. In Fallout 3, when the level cap was 20, you had to carefully plan out a way to max out your skills, and it involved using other items to get permanent skill increases. When the level cap was raised to 30, it was nearly impossible not to max out all of your skills. What's the point of raising your skills one at a time if you're just going to have to max them all out eventually anyway? Plus it makes the game too easy, if I don't want to put any points in a certain skill, I don't want to be forced to because I need to spend skill points. I'd be fine if you could max out your skills with items and stuff you had to work to get, but not if skills naturally max out. As for perks, I don't want to be able to get all of the perks, why would you want to? You have to choose to use certain perks and not others, the game shouldn't just spoon-feed you all of the perks, you should have to choose which perks to take or not.

If you recall from what Zimmer said, the Commonwealth sounds basically like the DC ruins. Only the Institute is high tech. Basically what you have is highly educated, techie Tenpenny residents and the rest being "unwashed masses".

Those are some very good points.
Also, some perks would neutralize each other too, which would be pointless.

I would think something as simple as an option to not force someone to spend level points and combing it with the difficulty setting could keep the game "truer to form".
I also agree that adding additional items/books/et cetera to allow someone to max out would be a good idea. Or even add a downloadable content package that has the options to continue like the Broken Steel pack.


I am certainly not suggesting that the game should be made simple, but rather, if the game normally averages 60 hours to level up to the "standard" maximum character level, then an additional 60+ hours could allow you to continue leveling to top out everything possible.

For me, it is more about creating the most powerful/capable character and then just playing around with it. Not trying to make the core and side quests easier.
After spending $60 on a video game, I would at least like the option to create a major kick-buhtt character for simple slaughter purposes.

But, that's just my opinion.

The commonwealth is right near boston so to explore that city would be very interesting and new. Also if not a full DLC then you could make it a small part of the plot or a side mission that results in gaining some aspect of there hyper advanced weapons and/or technology, like your own mode of transportation (I also like the ultra light idea, very road warrior esque). I think this could really add to the game
