Fallout 4: Speculations & Suggestions

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:07 am

A suggestion I hope a Dev sees. If I steal from John Q Public. It's wrong. That is acceptable

BUT WHEN JOHN Q PUBLIC IS DEAD IT IS NOT STEALING AS PROPERTY IS OF NO USE TO HIM.

It's still stealing.

If you want to go by that logic, then we're stealing anytime we kill and loot an enemy in any Fallout game

Companion dialogue.

Companions seems to run out of stuff to say after a while and when that is lost then they're no better than a merc for hire.
Make it so that companions have a lot of dialogue and that some of it unlocks itself at certain areas, after talking to certain people, after completing certain sidequests, or after you advance more and more in the main quest.

Make companions have influence as well.
If a companion has high lock pick skill then let us utilize it.
If they have high speech let them speech check the dialogue for us.
If they have high repair/traps skill then have them say "Hold up, traps ahead" and go disarm it for us.

Also make them have their own morals.
Like, Boone will just shoot legionnaires, and whatever, that's fine.
But I want companions to go "Wait.. You're going to do WHAT!? Listen, you do this, and we're finished, in fact, I'll kill you if you try to help that person" if you try to help oh let's say an "evil" person do a "evil quest" while you have a "good" companion with you.
Just make them feel more real, like they have their own morals that they won't break.
Even make them turn on you if you try to go against them. (Depending on what the situation is about)

Maybe a scientific companion which values advancement in tech above all else.
If you try to kill a bunch of people who uses slaves for chem experiments then he will turn on you.
He doesn't like that they have to use slaves as test subjects, but in the name of science you have to leave your morals at the door.
The slaves might become heavily addicted to the chems, maybe die, maybe even mutate depending on what kind of chems there is.
But what if they manage to create a new chem which could help a lot of people?
Would it be worth it?
This guy thinks so, and no matter what you say or what you want to do he will not listen to you.

Make it so that we can have 2 humanoid followers which also interact with each other. (Again, they will have new stuff to talk about when you trigger area/quest/dialogue events)

All this and a little more. Make the characters feel even more alive. Make them more than just someone you bring to a fight. Make them even interact with the world like you have team up with a guy that is a good friend with Mick and Ralph so therefore you get a discount there, but he's also in debt with the Omertas and sometime before he also worked with Benny and they didn't get along so if you have this companion with you, there could be different ways situations turn out, and Mick and Ralph might give you a discount or access to even more special items.

And you should be able to have two followers, and they'd all have different personal chemistry so some companions will dislike eachother, not work well as a team and maybe even leave, or some do the opposite, and when you wander the wasteland they could talk about whatever, either they agree or disagree or agree to disagree. Could be NCR-CL politics, or it could be about battle cattle.

You know what would make Fallout 4 fun random beginnings. Yep I said it. What I mean is you could start out in a perfect vault that gets raided by super mutants. Or you can be in a perfect vault that gets evacuated. OR you can be born in a raiders camp that trains you how to become a raider. If this idea was put into the game then most people would want to restart the game just to play those beginnings... plus I would love to play as a raider.

Now the story I was wondering about. What story would go with the Fallout history....I have no idea. So I just told my self what if the next game was in New York and the West region in New York wants to keep the wasteland as it is. But the east side wants to restore it's state. They are at war and YOU the player has to choose a side. Join the east region army and fight to restore the state. Or stay with the west and keep the wasteland as it is.....OR you can just be in the middle and destroy both.

I'm pretty sure FO4 will be built on the same engine TES V is, so depending on the advances (like dialogue, etc.) FO4 should have the ability for players (if we're not crawling out of a vault anymore,) to be either a Ghoul, Human, or even a Super Mutant. If this new engine can handle what TES V is most likely going to have, then I don't see why it couldn't have specific dialogue for choosing a Ghoul, Human, and Super Mutant? Just some food for thought that's been said countless times, but with this new engine, I'm sure it's more of a reality than when it was suggested for FO3 and NV.

Most areas would reject a ghoul and mutant... thus rendering most quests completely useless. People would be too scared to speak to a mutant, and well, ghouls may be somewhat more quest worthy than a mutant, most people would still not want one patrolling their town. Plus, the need for added dialog would be more than needed if it was just a human playing.

It depends on where they put FO4 though. If it was the East Coast again, I'm sure that they could find a way to make it so the quest givers are still willing to give a Ghoul or Mutant the mission. Like if nobody was willing to do a particular mission, you'd sort of a be the last resort, even though they don't like it, it's still an important enough mission to be done.

As for the dialogue, that's why I'm saying this new engine is better suited now for allowing characters to be ghoul or super mutant, because it'll probably be much more expanded and capable than the old GAMEBYRO engine which is obviously very outdated and old.

Take Fallout 3. If you were able to choose to be a ghoul or super mutant when it would have been impossible to do the main quest. And the only place to accept you would have been Underworld.

I think we should be able to chose our race.

Wastelander.
Vault born.
Ghoul.
Android.
Skag. (The Pitt infection.)
Cave Trog. (Van Buren style Trogs, not Pitt Trogs.)

All races have their own benefits and drawbacks.
The game should be kinda open about the races but at the same time show discrimination towards all races from place to place.
Dialogue and quests would vary depending one what race you chose.
But it's not going to be so bad that it's a kill on sight for everyone.
So if you choose to be a ghoul then you'll meet some discrimination here and there and some people might straight out hate you, but no one is going to automatically attack you for being a ghoul, for that we have the vilified title in reputation system.

Fallout Age: Origins?

I'd rather not have origins story-progression but yeah depending on what race chosen you'd start the game at a certain town/city/area.
But it will still leave the past of the PC open for interpretation.

I would personally like to see more dynamic interaction between characters. Everyone just seems so static. I would love to be able to build a relationship with my companions and sometimes even ask for advice, or some help with something. All they do is stand there and shoot.

Some quests are closed from you due to bigotry, others are opened up for you that you otherwise wouldn't have been offered. Kinda like good or bad reputation, just mix that with what some people think about your looks whether you are good or bad.

I'd love to be able to choose different races. Every race with its different drawbacks and perks, different quests opened and closed for them, different goals in the story line, and everyone will face bigotry somewhere. Could be interesting, especially since you get one extra Trait and/or Perk at start due to your race (Trait would be like you can raise your Strength up to 12, but your Intelligence to only 8 if you're a Supermutant, and Perk would be that you've got a DT of # without wearing any armor.)

That's why I specifically stated that it could only work, if we didn't come out of a vault. (Refer to my post at the top of the page.) If it was like NV, where we wake up outside in the wasteland, not waking up in a vault, the chance to be a ghoul should be a choice since I'm sure that the Mojave Express, and the rest of the wasteland are willing to give you work.

I am not talking about coming from the vault. The brotherhood shoots ghouls, the enclave shoots ghouls. And i am not mentioning the Mutants either.

Just not for the main game series for a spin of like New Vegas ok, but for fallout 4 no. It should be a sequel to continue the story.

Fallout New Vegas is a sequel to Fallout 2. Fallout 3 is a spin-off if anything, it takes place on the opposite side of the country with nothing from Fallout 2 in there, except for the Enclave that were annihiliated in Fallout 2 and the BoS that stopped being BoS and started being nice to outsiders.

I am not talking about coming from the vault. The brotherhood shoots ghouls, the enclave shoots ghouls. And i am not mentioning the Mutants either.

So? The Enclave shoots at you too, whether you are human, ghoul or mutant, and the BoS mostly stay away but they would shoot nosy outsiders aswell... maybe not Lyon's BoS, but THE BoS. We're just saying it would open up completly different paths in the story. Imagine it being like in Fallout New Vegas where you have four different paths to follow. Then imagine if you could choose three different races that would all handle these four main quest paths differently. That would be twelve different paths you could take with, twelve unique playthroughs! Not to speak of all the side-quests that would perhaps act out differently aswell.
