Fallout 4: Speculations & Suggestions

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 11:02 pm

I think the area of Fallout 4 will be in Chicago. Supposedly there is a Brotherhood branch there (but of a different flavor), and maybe some Enclave activity too (supposedly ED-E made a trip through there for a pit stop on his way to Navarro).

Personally I just want to see what Fallout 4 will look like using the Skyrim engine

They need to make a fallout thats not in America. Like in England.

Or have it take place in the midwest, and have a more winter/tundra theme to it.

America's first choice in Post Apocalyptic Simulation... I'd like Alaska or something.

weapon skills should be....

laser, guns

and

small, medium, heavy.

weapons should use two skills. a laser pistol is a small laser. a minigun is a heavy gun. laser and firearm should effect how well the weapons are loaded and degrade/ the size should be about the recoil and accuracy.

also- i want realistic drinking animations

personely id like to see the enclave but in a nicer form. Like instead of them being an evil fraction they could be the good fraction. Now the only way that they could be in the next game is if its in chicago because in fallout new vegas an enclave guy said that there was a base in chicago. And so the enclave at the chicago base looked at what they had done and decided to let people join them and start rebuilding. But they dont let any gouhls in or super mutants but instead of killing them they have decided to let them die peacefully. GO ENCLAVE !!!!!!

please add this post as thread number 12 or so, i think thats gonna be a long story~

Anyway, as a fanatic of fallout and post nuclear games in general, i would like to mix few game ideas in one game, fallout 4:
first of all, the location itself, FO4 should take place in a middle of a LARGE, i mean LARGE city ruins, with sewer system, traffic, railroads, airports, shopping centers, whole streets, urban areas, even parks, and all this: ruined!
i really liked the idea at FO3 that you first of all have to search the rural areas and then when skilled enough, enter the DC ruins. but we talking about Washington DC! i only found a lot of metro systems, one super mart, few museums, and 5-6 ruined houses i could enter and search for some food and ammo.. few shops here and there, library and few factories... even in the middle of DC, i couldn't find a building tall than 4 floors(!) only 2 parks and few outposts. very disappointing!
Bethesda should make FO4 map larger in ten times that FO3,FONV. Ok map size, done. Now lets talk about the areas: first of all, large city, with sky scraqers, whole streets, main roads as well, even few groceries in every area, the player can move in the whole city, but of course some areas will be for low level rookies and high skilled players: an abandoned old scrapyard, for low level players, middle of business and industrial areas, for higher levels. outside the city: few settlements, villages, lakes, mountains, connected-to-road areas like gas stops, hotels, panoramic view areas etc.. ok done with the area section... The game can start in the following options: 1) born in the vault (FO3) 2) start as a child in one of the settlements around the city 3) runaway slave (my favorite option) 4) find yourself wounded in a middle of no-where (FO4). Depends in what start you chose, the game will continue in the same track: if you born in the vault, you have to train hard to improve your weapon use skills but your repair and medicine will be fine, for example. if chosen as runaway slave, you have to avoid patrols of slavers which searching for you, born in a settlement brings you a first knowledge of surrounding areas, etc. ok fine we started the game, now what? all the starts will point you to different locations, like megaton and good-springs, and then you'll continue to the main story line (which gonna be very long). While playing Metro 2033, i thought about something, why fallout have only overalls, helmets and glasses? just 3 clothing types for use... and why there is no gas masks? or battery chargers, or normal flash light (not pipboy one). Its a post apocalyptic game for god's sake.. Bethesda could make mutants more scary-looking, vicious animals too, (MMM mod comes here). few types of the same mutant like in metro 2033: normal, furious, plated, hairy, etc.. Keep the raiders, it adds paper to the game ;). Let us proceed... I realized that FO3 and NV containers, have unlimited store capability, you actually can store Gatling gun and few flamers in one med kit.. thats ridiculous... each container should have his limits! Up next: why so big large area? because the whole city it divined to "ruling grounds" simple: brotherhood of steel established a base in the local mall, they paroling around and return to base (BoS DC patrol mod). Raiders have their own base, somewhere in downtown, one sky scraqer turned into radio station, few buildings serving as giant nest of creatures, other area ruled by gang, outcasts, stalkers, rangers and more.. It will be nice if the game support "conquering" options, aid brotherhood to ambush the raider's nest and establish an outpost, or help the bandits to take the nearby pharmacy from scavengers for meds and drugs, and so on.
Enjoyable battles: fight with companions, or even your friends if FO4 support multiplayer, in a middle of the industrial area, capture factory and turn him to your own outpost, or walk with silenced sniper rifle and hunt down raiders and mutants in the middle of the night, at downtown! jump between buildings, craft wire and steel bridges to cross over buildings, All the buildings are useful, enter-able, part of the city map so you can stay at 16th floor and snipe mutants from above, block doors and windows to avoid strangers at night (rude awaking mod). I am a person who love to search every room, for food and water, batteries, ammo, or simple parts to sell or use to repair your guns. set some collectibles, like old magazines (action for men mod), readable per-war books, coins.. Workbench, i found it very useful, but how i supposed to craft rail spikes gun without tools? no tools avoid you from crafting, get tool belt, screwdrivers, hammer, wench and what no? Surviving: ok thats the interesting part: need to eat, sleep, and drink as seen on FONV, injures must be treated, many different injures from scratches to broken bones and blood lost, each one have a different treat and require different medicine: antibiotics for infection, sleeping pills for headaches, fast restoring cells pills for broken bones and many more (arwens realism tweaks mod). Quests, i always liked them, TONS of different quests at FO4 is what we need: protect trade route, help a child to find his daddy, look for notes to find hidden stashed and unique weapons, get access to new technology: ammo press, kitchen, library, armory, and what not? Currency: keep the caps, but pre-war money and gold bars, same as coins are available too. Ammo: in FO3 i found only 19 different types of ammo (include mines, mini nukes, grenades), i wont lie, thats weird! only in USA there is 70 different types of ammo used by guns, and only 19 types in FO3? FONV was little better with more types and shapes: normal, AP, HP, +P, junked, i guess we have to expect more types at FO4? (Calibr mod will do the job). Skills: return the throwing skill, cooking skill (surviving), crafting skill, cunning, 15-16 skills will be enough! Leveling: no cap level but very low exp gaining, just few points to set at skills, 3-4 no more. Perks: many perks with small treat: +1 to sneak, +3% damage to insects, etc. Poses: only walk, run and sneak a FO3 and NV, lame! climbing and laying down, hiding behind a wall and move your head to look forward, thats what we need! (damn i cant believe, still have place to write..) anyway, more weapon mode kits, (WMK mod) for almost every weapon, night-vision goggles, portable items: all things are portable! ( razorwire's amazing mods) depending on your straight of course, you can move a couch and use it as a brigade, or drop a chair from the 6th floor on poor ghoul and kill him... nail wooden boards to windows, use and old bed as a bridge to nearby building, and many more. Mini games (picking, hacking): actually its fine but it freeze the time around you, i suggest real time hacking and picking (zumbs real time security mod). Temperature presence, wight, (imps powered power armor, temperature meter) Environment: RAINING and SNOWING! fogs, pitch-black nights, sandstorms, earthquakes from large blasts, live noises: barking dogs, gunshots, owls, snakes, water falling, screams, yelling. I found FO exploring not that interesting, now you have to create your own map by finding old map pieces, clues. compass: i know you never used it! north? south? no thanks. in FO4 this will be your first navigation system... you cant mark places on the map because you missing this part, so you know that somewhere to the north there is a large super mart for salvage, you mark it on your compass: to north: super mart. simple! Battles: every few days, some gangs and groups will fight each other in the urban area, very violent fights, you can watch the fights from the rooftops, or get inside the hot zone to gain some experience. after the battle, the winning team will take what they can: ammo, food, weapons, clothing, medicine, useful junk, you allow to take them too if not cached and killed during the loot ;) future technology: craft your own weapons, aids and clothing. material usage: to keep your fire camp, you need to grab wood and put into the flames, or built your own wall from bricks and cement... Graphic: i suggest a little more improved graphic, since almost nobody using old comps and can run almost ever game. Burns: i couldn't understand why after burning a poor wastelander, he had even no a scratch(?) (beautification mod). Weapons: at FO3 we had around 30 weapon types not including uniques, at FONV we had around 50(?) at FO4 like 200(!) and thats not all, you can use single brick as weapon, use chains and screwdrivers, even torch!

Well ill keep writing soon i guess, no more ideas for the moment ;) any comments ?

I think they should do a Fallout: New New York or a Fallout: New London and get out of Post- Atomic War America and should be at the turn of the 22nd Century 2100?

Not gonna post my list again but please, more skills for FO4, not less, at least 17 skills cause 13 is too damn few.
And don't have 1 skill point = 1 raise all the time.
Have it go 2 skill points = 1 raise at 51 to 100 at least. (Tagged skills still go by 1:1 ratio though.)
And if going by:
1-50 1:1
50-90 2:1
90-100 3:1
Then the level cap "could" be higher than 30, if it is higher than 30 (40+) then have perks every third level instead of every or every other.

I think this should be remade, and... fixed so hard. No one really knows whats Canon out of it, and it has a decent plot. Let Fallout 4 be to Tactics what NV was to Van Buren.

They could toss in some Enclave... We would have Calculator (yeah another AI as an end boss oh well...) It would be heavy BoS that is actually a decent blend of West, and East BoS... And it would be close enough that rumors would spread of what the canon ending for FO:NV was.

New Vegas was barely anything to Van Buren though.
They used like what? 7% of Van Buren in New Vegas?

Tactics shouldn't be remade, time should be spent on Tactics II instead.

Yes, Fallout in other parts of the world and not so USA-centric world ( ). Don't the developers think an atomic war is global by any chance?? lol! seriously. How about - Fallout: (Insert favourite Australian capital city here or any other major cities around the world) ....lol!

Me, biased?... nahhhhhhhh! :twirl:

The only problem with that would be...

No Vaults
No Enclave
No BoS
No NCR
No Deathclaws
Nothing to do with any other Fallout line...

I am not saying great stories could not be told from a non USA-centric viewpoint... it just would not be very fallout'ish in my book.
The only real place I could see them stretching it to would be Canada... and maybe... maybe... China.

I don't think there is a problem with any of that, it depends on how you can "imagine" things to be in a post apocalyptic world. Given the nuclear war between USA & China and its after effects, why can't other countries that form alliances with one of these powers get the Fallout effect and thus story line? even with Vaults, Enclave, BoS etc, for all we know, those organisations may have established international links with 3rd party contractors for example.. I know I'm going out on a limb here but the current state of our video gaming world does need to expand its imagination...

Just can't help, but think of those people who thought DC was to far away from FO 1/2's action... You skip across the pond, and people will flip a gasket.

While I would like them to keep the games on this half of the world I would actually enjoy reading a novel placed elsewhere. I always wanted Fallout books, but I did not want it to interfere with the games lore IE if you don't read book X key lore info would be missed between NV, and FO 4...

[grumble]
Still pissed at how Blizzard put pivotal lore information in the book Cataclysm instead of telling/showing us in game. [/grumble]

All of the Fallout companies we know of are private US contractors (as in they don't even interact with other countries), and all alliances were being abolished, every country fighting and argue while they tried to get the last of the world's resources... It just would be too much of a leap.

i have an idea, why dont we take fall out in a whole new approach explaining what has happened during and before the post apocalyptic time period. For example the main character could be an elite sldier that has served the Enclave his whole life and is remembering the events that have happened. He must remember his past in order to help rebuild the waste land and destroy the Enclave once and for all. they cold also give it a cinematic feeling with cutscenes of what happens and also upgrade the third person element vats i think could use a little more umph but is still ok and maybye add a lot more badass guns and maybye even vehicles that you could drive. MAKE IT NEW, EXCITING, and suspensefull with tons of story line.

If you agree type BOOYAH
if you disagree then type in dissed

Yes, but the fifties culture timelock and the "World Of Tomorrow" feel of the Fallout world would still be there, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Vampire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eagle_%28comic%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explorers_on_the_moon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Boys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_television_science_fiction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Streak_%28missile%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Dare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sellafield#Calder_Hall_nuclear_power_station http://worldatwar.net/chandelle/v1/v1n1/ww2space.htm http://gizmodo.com/5524604/real-%5Bcensored%5D-flying-nazi-soldiers-with-jet-packs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Electric_Lightning.

who are you? nothing changes about your character from start to finish in the new fallout games. you start out as a nobody, and by the end of the game you're still a nobody, albeit a very strong nobody who changed the wasteland, yet still lacks personality, growth, emotion. you spend all this time customizing your character's look(i do anyway), and yet i can't even see his face in conversations. look at red dead redemption and the impressive story they were able to build around john marston. that guy brought intrigue and it made the story and your actions that much more meaningful.

Can see your own face in conversations? I can't - and it's never bothered me either. What I like about Fallout is I create the personality, growth, emotion of my character. They can be male or female and range from a psychotic mass murdering brute to a pacifistic scientist who only uses violence when absolutely necessary (though they could become jaded and disillusioned and go on the rampage if I decide they do). I find that far better than the game telling me who I am.
Your character changes if you decide they have. It's up to you. Use your imagination.

Too linear.
I don't want a forced backstory, it should be vague.

Maybe a American black ops like a Navy Seal or something that was in China on a mission at the time of the great war and is now a ghoul kicking :swear: in China and trying to get back to America.....yea, I know it's crazy dumb :bonk: idea. But it would be way different though
