Fallout 4: Speculations & Suggestions

Problem with giving the PC a voice is that the file size of the audio in the normal game is more than twice as big with player character voice.

He could just talk during conversations... or they could have his voice just alittle louder than a character that's right in front of you...

I meant: So you want them to rip out the RPG aspect of us being whomever we want to be and instead be forced to play as a static character with a static background? (ME1, ME2, DA2)

who are you? nothing changes about your character from start to finish in the new fallout games. you start out as a nobody, and by the end of the game you're still a nobody, albeit a very strong nobody who changed the wasteland, yet still lacks personality, growth, emotion. you spend all this time customizing your character's look(i do anyway), and yet i can't even see his face in conversations. look at red dead redemption and the impressive story they were able to build around john marston. that guy brought intrigue and it made the story and your actions that much more meaningful.

Red Dead Redemption was one of the most overrated, hollow, clunky and badly written games I've ever seen.
So I don't see "any" of it, except it's beautiful scenery, as something good. (sorry  )

And I still don't see it.
Fallout has never been about "My character is so alive!" to me.
He's a tool that I shape to be what I want it to be.
Giving the character a "life" also means cutting back on other things, and I can very much do without that.

well then we're just different types of players then, because as enjoyable as this franchise is, it just ends up feeling hollow. it doesn't move me like mass effect 2 did. it doesn't make me feel bad for any of the characters. the only exception i can think of is harold/bob. that guy was interesting. oh and yes man. he was funny, and kind of creepy. you really can't become anybody either in these games. i don't see how.

You're comparing Fallout to a Drama flick that wants to be an RPGame?
In that case I understand what you mean, but Fallout ain't exactly a movie.
If Fallout tried to be like Mass Effect then I think it'd have to cut back on a lot of content.

Always need cannibals, but they should be better designed and more fleshed out.
Like, Andale just ate people, period.
Family drank peoples blood and believed to be vampires, nice concept but not nearly flesh out enough.
White Glove Society, erm, I dunno, an important aspect of their society is their past which the game didn't explore well enough.
Bob's Iguana Stand - Well, it didn't need to be any more fleshed out than it was, it was a guy buying human meat cause it was cheaper.
So yes to more cannibals but they need to have a greater storyline and past history.

To answer you, I use this quote:

YOU give him a face at the start of the game, YOU give him his personality thougth YOUR choices you make, and YOU give him a voice by reading the dialogue aloud

Seriously, it's called role playing. We don't need to be assigned a role, then we just play an already existing role. Like setting up a well-known play or something, like Hamlet, you can't exactly change the characters personalities, you play the same role as hundreds of actors for hundreds of years have played. Now, if you write your own play, or you are given a storyline but are free to add any characters with any personalities you want, as long as you follow they story, then your character would be unique, right? First time it is ever played by anyone, isn't that interesting. Or would you rather be like "Oh, I watched Hamlet performed by theater A yesterday, and tomorrow I'm gonna watch Hamlet performed by theater B, and the day after that, Hamlet performed by theater C. It's so interesting and original!"... unless you are a big fan of Hamlet, then I'm sorry. You maybe like this.

It's like me watching [REC], and you just can't watch the american remake Quarantine with a straight face. It's the same thing, just... americanized for the american audience. Yuck! (learn to read subtitles)

I'd like a town that seems normal (like Andale... kind of) that shows the history of how they became cannibals or something.

Andale's cannibals were awesome (first time I played it I played it perfectly), the Family wasn't as scary but still pretty awesome, but the White Glove Society (which I believed during the weeks and days before Vegas came out were going to be the greatest) didn't have the same scray/incredible feeling that the Family and Andale had... zzzzzzthey could have been better done is what I mean.

I'd like a cult that are cannibals for ceremonies...

You guys have seen The Road? That part in the cannibal house. That was just freaky. It's kinda like Andale, except the warm reception and that they keep their food fresh in the pantry (=lots of naked and starving travellers in a pitchblack basemant, probably feeding on eachother before the cannibals feed on them, cut them up and cook them on the fronyard judging from the stuff seen there.)

That does sound like a pretty good idea...

How about a gang of raiders that decides just to stop killing people and started a small community somewhere, then eventually became a government and military force, then a small country somwhere, they'd be interesting...

One thing I've always wanted to do is add my own custom Npc with my own custom creature into fallout.
As is I don't see how to make my own skeleton nif for fallout. This should be easy to do mods make
Fallout it gives it lots of replay adding our own surprise.

I think they should allow you to customize your height, weight, age (don't say they did in Vegas because that was just a wrinkle bar, what's wrong with numbers?), and species but I don't want them to allow you to be a one of a kind creature, or be able to alter your bone structure.

Hmmm... Things I would like to see....

Well, I for one would like to have the option to be able to use a mouse button to run/walk with and still be able to do combat. (I am not sure how that works or is possible programming-wise.)

I did not like the absolute "pick a faction" ending. I would have loved to be able to
Spoiler

have been able to use the robots to help NCR (or other faction) or even forced them into some sort of compromise. i.e. I will help you push back the Legion if BLAH BLAH BLAH certain changes happen in some part of the world part of the world. Even if it is something like better treatment to non-NCR citizens, After ALL ... They were here FIRST, and I have control of the robot army, so let us make a deal. I enjoyed the main quest for the most part except the absolute "you have to join this faction" part.

Artistically, I would like to see some of the buildings painted, at least on the inside. Whitewash paint is simple to make and can be dyed with plant and animal stuff for various colors. The buildings can still be mish-mashed together, but the people who live there do their best to make it "homey."

I would like to continue the game after the main quest, which was also a beef I had with both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I would also like to level beyond thirtieth (without having to use the console to do so.) I am not asking for extra feats, there are usually plenty to keep you going for a while. I do not mind the skills maxing out either, you simply will not get points after all your skills are maxed out.

I think the Leveling is a little unbalanced some how. Around twentieth level, it seemed I was leveling too fast. Perhaps a fifty-percent increase the amount of experience in the levels beyond twenty. [Before anyone complains, I did not use the perk to level faster, and I did not rest often to get the resting bonus. There are plenty of ways to level faster for those who want it.]

More quests with fun and/or silly outcomes, plus ones with a bit more content. But have a good mix. Have some with just killing stuff, some with problems/puzzles to solve, and some running around. I do not mind a few quests which seem utterly stupid, sometimes people want stupid stuff.

I do like the morality quests, even when they are minor. It makes you think and reconsider your actions. At times, it makes me wish real life had a "SAVE GAME" option. :tops: :poke: :disguise:

By the way, I love how I can interact with the companions and have quests and occasional, sometimes important, commentary. I have always wanted to have an NPC/Companion who said new things after our initial meeting. Make sure to keep that in the next Fallout. Although, I think they should object or threaten to leave you if you continue on your current path, then do so if you do not change your crazy ways, unless you can convince them otherwise. Even then, Some things should simply not be ignored. Especially if you are with them and killing their people. They should be objecting.

EDIT: Well I did finally upset Boone (by being hated by NCR) enough for him to leave, but in honesty... It was his own D@MN fault. I decided to go with House's plan which for some reason made the NCR hostile to me. {Well, there were other factors which could have caused it.} Anyway, I was deliberately NOT shooting anyone it was him and the robot killing NCR troops. I think he should have complained before shooting at people who may have been people he knew. Just a thought.

And being a FEMALE gamer who is straight, if you are going to allow the guys to have six with girls, (and possibly the one guy) it would be nice to even have six with the one male prosttute in the game. Although the offer from the sixbot was hilarious (of which I flatly denied. Wa-a-a-a-ay to creepy for me.) I did find the flirting interesting from some of the NPCs, but nothing ever came of it. (I am not asking for romance here, I can watch a silly movie for that. I am in the Wastes, and going through a lot combat and stress here. A girl wants a little nookie on the side too.)

And If we are going to get to customize the face, I would like the ability to adjust the corners of the mouth for a constant expression. I could have someone who smiles all the time then later after some serious quests, possibly change that to a more serious expression. And while we are the point of character portraits, I would like the option of hair which is long, and not just tied up in a bun. Long, meaning it goes past the shoulders, even if you can only work it out as being in a ponytail or a braid. On both girls and guys it would be nice. I am sure there are more than a few long haired gamers around who would also like that option. Plus, make the eye color change a lot more obvious.

As far as the quests go, I realize it can be difficult to come up with new content, so perhaps you can do a contest where the top ten winners will get a limited/collectors edition of the next game coming out. Hmmm.. Thinking about that, it may be more trouble than it is worth, and consist of people reading all kinds of entries. You could put stipulation about using complete sentences and proper words and limit it to one entry per physical street address, but you would still have to have someone sort out the crap, then read the (more then likely) hundreds/thousands of entries. Sounds a bit too involved, just a thought anyway. Well, I could invent a few for you for a few extra caps.... er... dollars. I could even come up with dialog options......

It would be interesting to see the occasional unique mutated creature to deal with. Maybe three in the whole game. Changing around some of the standard characters is nice and all, but you think that with all the radiation around there would be the freak mutations. Heck there are unique freak mutations nowadays without the aid of radiation.

Plus, I would like some of the supposed nastier encounters be more challenging. I felt New Vegas was dumbed down a bit from Three. Even after the Falout 3 DLV and being thirtieth level (34 if I am letting myself have extra levels every time I play.) There are certain creatures which still kick my butt and/or are quite a challenge when they are in bigger numbers. But I did not realize there were more options than I though with the hardness of play, but normal still should have been a bit tougher. It is the Wasteland after all.

I think I have dumped out my entire penny jar giving you my two cents worth of opinions.

Oh, one more thing. I love the Wild Wastelands Perk, but I would like more of a hint of what is causing the face to appear, much of the time it does not seem very obvious. Sometimes it appears and I look around and see nothing which could do the face.. Say like "Do these two bodies remind you of anything." or something to that effect.

Thanks for Reading
QueAquila Golden

EDIT: My husband thinks that Fallout Russia would be cool. Perhaps the Chinese wiped them out first. I saw someone Else's post mentioning Australia. You can do a whole new breed of kritters. hehehe Tasmanian Devil Mutants .... Genetically engineered to be smarter but the problem was they were not all the smart in the first place (even for an animal) Vicious, smarter and talks like an uneducated hick.

I think with the way they're doing the series, it is likely we will be going back to California in the next one. there debut was the Capital Wasteland, where we were shown another part of America that was more war-torn, then NV, to show how the first 2 fallout games had an impact on the west-coast. I think it would be logical for Bethesda to now try and go back to the original setting and continue the story.
