Fallout 3 PC Startup Crash

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:09 am

Hey, I purchased Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 for PC today, and my computer will run New Vegas without a skip, but Fallout 3 crashes right after I click new game. I saw another post about something like this, but the person who was trying to run Fallout 3 had a single core laptop. Mine's a duo, I think, and it'll run some things (like Skyrim), but not others (Rage), because of there not being a dedicated graphics card in my laptop. Any ideas please?

if you have mods, use a mod loader. the order in which mods load is paramount. many are no big deal but a great many are very picky.

"Picky", yes.

Mods loaded last will take precedence in which records are used, if there is a disagreement among mods as to what the values should be.

However, your problem is not with mods. It's with that "graphics card". I'm amazed that it will run Skyrim, honestly. It shouldn't.

One thing you might try is installing this: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778

Now, I know it says it's for NVidia cards, and New Vegas as well. But how it works is thusly: Install the dll file into the root directory of your game, next to the main executable. The game will load that file instead of the normal direct 3d file. Now, when the game asks the computer which graphics card you're using, the replacement dll intercepts this request and responds back "NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS" instead of whatever card you actually have. This will cause Fallout to assume that your computer can handle the game properly and continue on, instead of failing out.

This should work for almost any video game, Rage included.
