Fallout 3 is still the best in the series(again!)

I was gonna a complete answer, but this user at steam has given it perfectly. You can find the thread easily if you go the fallout series forum there(thanks ACJCLIGHTENING):

I played new vegas first, then bought fallout 3. It seems to me that fallout 3 is better in almost every way.

The story was way better then new vegas, NV felt like mass effect 2, it had a great story but was to much of a side story(not fighting reapers)

Fallout 3 had about 50 million less crashes! I crashed once in all of fallout 3 compared to fallout new vegas which crashed all the time!

Felt more dangerous, fallout new vegas was so easy and laid back. It is in a big empty desert while fallout 3 was in a close quarters city. I never new when a super mutant ambush would come, as opposed to new vegas where you could see an attack for miles.

Way better enemies in fallout 3, super mutants were awsome to fight and the enclave was a great enemy too, and there were way more ghouls. fighting the legion and occasional powder gangers doesnt live up to it.

There was a bigger need to be a scavanger, which is what I really want in a post apocolyptic game. I remember scavanging around for books to sell to the BOS in the library.

The gunplay isnt better or worse, but I actually used vats.
I was almost done with fallout new vegas when my friend somehow made the game freeze and fired several bullets in slow motion. I didnt even know vats existed until the end, atleast fallout 3 tells you how to use it.

The only big advantage to fallout new vegas is letting you recruit every companion and adding some new guns.

I cant be the only one that thinks like this. Why do people think new vegas is better?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He pretty much has the exact points I wanted to add,so no point writing all of it again.

Since they have this thread might as well have a little discussion on it.I am still not convinced with New Vegas, but again the crashes and complete turn from the wasteland is turning me away. When you think of Fallout, you think wasteland,survivial..not deserts with casinos or political stories all of a sudden.I will agree NV has a big story, and I wish Beth takes that and incorporates it better in the wasteland.

And what about Fallout 1 or Fallout 2?

The series consists of more than two games.

And anyway, Fallout 3 is the black sheep of the family. It's plot and story is incosistant, it's lore is messed up (200 years after the bombs and people are still living is squalor) and it's top level enemies are bullet sponges due to a messed up levelling system.

New Vegas is far closer to the originals than Fallout 3 could ever aspire to be.

edit: Also, do we actually need yet another FO3 vs NV thread?

tbh each fallout game really stands on its own 2 feet in greatness. Now people may view fo3 as that deranged ginger redheaded stepchild thats on drugs, its still part of the family. The drugs have eaten up its mind so its not very good with words orastorys but dammit its randomness and different look is still part of the fallout family. You just dont judge family members against family...no u judge family members against other family members.

See my view on the family would be this.
Fallout 1- is the smart athletite old fashion dad in the family.
Fallout 2- is the boozed up mother whose an very entertaining [censored].
Fallout 3- is the child of an affair between the mother and her jet taking supermutant dealer
Fallout New Vegas- is the actial child between mom and dad and takes after daddy while having that wild streak like his mom.
They all family, dont try to break up the family by judging....

I'm confused, whats the video game equivalent of being a boozed up mother?

Not much of an "best of the series" claim since Fallout 1 and 2 are missing, which means that the answer is incomplete as the whole series haven't been played. "Best of the newer two" claim, but not the "best of the series" one. But it's all opinions, and everyone has them. Though I think I can guess where this thread goes after a while...
