Fallout style Real time strategy

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:54 am

It probably would be condemned to the bargain bin then.
Halo wars was very dependant on it being a Halo game. I don't think a Fallout RTS would have that kind of pull.
And PC players will just use mods instead.
But the thing is that there isn't exactly much to put into a game. I think a game more like Civilization would work better where you have to build up a city and research things while finding the best resource your city can get, then troops to conquer other cities and defend the ones that are present.

YES YES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YES. NCR, Brotherhood, Enclave whoever i want a strategy game... kinda like tactics, but better graphics, better system, i was always dying in tactics one, because my squad wasnt killing any enemies, totally not my strategy skillz fault. I would pay for a game, where u are in control of a large army of whatever faction you choose, and can destroy the enviroment or something like that.

make it happen i say

Can you not do this in an RTS?

I think a turn based strategy game like Civilization would work well for Fallout.

It could. Certainly. Although, I don't know if that sort of indepth managerial style would offer too much gameplay yield or depth for such a small scale of events and parties. Over an RPG esque approach which basically combines the aspects of "state" and "character" centricism in (at least almost) equal measures, that is.

Not the same way as Civilization.

in civilization and total war, depending on how you play, most of your time was devoted to building up your technology and logistics more than simply launching a campaign. COH and AOE are more centered around the fights themselves, which has it's own appeal, but doesn't have the capabilities of total war in terms of how you want to play the game. personally, AOE was my very first PC game, but i found total war to be much better when i look at it objectively because of how i had to manage an entire empire, but i could also go in and command my own forces during battle if i wanted to.

what about a storyline for the game? just because it's non-canon doesn't mean we can't give it a single-player campaign to go on centered around the actions of a single man who came from vague backgrounds to change the land forever. (sound familiar?) idk how this would play out realistically, but here's my idea. have a system where the factions don't attack you at first, but you travel to your preferred faction, and help them by joining their armies during attacks or launching raids of your own against their enemies. Based on these attacks and pre-defined alliances based on the storyline of the campaign, the teams would be created. Then, for following battles, the factions "remember" your choices similar to the system in mass effect and thus the game continues.

I've personally never played a Civ game before, is it like a turn-based version of Rise of Nations?

I think it should play like command and conquer. But with its own kind of twist.

I don't really care if a different studio do a RTS spinoff as long as it doesn't affect the RPGs.

It would be too similar to Tiberium sun.
Well without all the walking tanks of course.

Not if you gave it its own kind of twist. Do something to set it apart from Command and conquer.

The thing is though that as, RTS' go, Command and Conquer are pretty simple ones. They are fun, but I'd prefer something a bit more complex similar to Rise of Nations.

As much as I love Civilization. It doesn't work with Fallout. No, let me re-iterate that. It would the worst Fallout game to exist, even F:PoS would be better in comparison.
1. We don't know ANYTHING about civilian life. Almost everything we know is war-related.
2. Even if you did know SOMETHING about civilian life, it'd be carbon copy of Civ albeit with less everything.
3. There's not enough factions for it. You would have four factions tops. If you made the Brotherhood chapters their own, the only difference would be a few unique units. And adding new factions would be pretty hard.

Make it more like Total War then. One does not have to know all that much of civilan life for a total war game. Just know what will keep the population happy and keep money coming in and you're set.

I think you're taking the idea too literally. If they just copied eveything from one game and replaced some wlements it won't be too great.

1. And we know a lot about the NCR, civilians included, remember Fallout 2. We know a bit about Caesar's Legion. And we know a good deal about the BoS.
2. And again I think you are taking it too literally.
3. Again it isn't civilization, it would have similarities. The maps would be way smaller. Essentially it would be like Civilization Revolution except different. And Firaxis would have to make it, otherwise it would fail.

i agree that civilization wouldn't work with it, simply because of the way civilization is set up with it's focus on civilians. that's why i say total war, because let's face it, most of fallout has to do with war of some kind and how it shapes human society to come, not necessarily civilian life in and of itself. total war has a much more military perspective which makes it more viable as a format, along with the fact that total war encompasses everything in civ, AOE, COH, etc. also, i'd need a single player campaign, but i think i've already said that so i'll refrain from repeating myself

I think this might be the greatest thing I have read on this forum. But I don't think it has to be completely non-canon. Make it like Total War(one of the greatest series ever) and have some "historical" battles from the NCR-Brotherhood war, or Legion-Whatever war. Maybe some "historical" campaigns like Legion going from small tribe to mighty empire. Add some non-canon campaigns like Master-Everybody war and the Total War custom battles and you have [censored] amazing game.

I've often thought that there should be a Total War game for lots of series(including tv shows, books, etc.) The format is just to perfect for RTS's.

It seems your overall answer is "You're taking it too literally!" No real argument there. And then you say it has to be done by Fireaxis? So basically, it won't be done EXACTLY like Civilization, but it's going to be made by the guys who MAKE civilization?
1. We know nearly nothing about NCR civilians, a deal about BoS and NOTHING about CL civilian life.\.
