Fallout style Real time strategy

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:50 pm

I would love to see something like a RTS style fallout game. With all the various factions such as The legion, Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel, NCR, etc. Bethesda with the last Fallout installment now has enough factions to make a Game such as this. It would be awesome if you had multiple custom units within each faction. Like for example. I love the legion and it would be great if I could mix melee style legion fighters with the shotgun wielding and rifle wielding fighters. What are your guys thoughts on this.

Sounds fun. But I just think there are too few factions to make one....yet. A Total War: Fallout would be something I would buy though.

I don't know about a real time strategy -- that'd, imo, offer nothing new.

However, a turnbased (RPG-esque) strategy in the vein of HoMM and Disciples would be something I'd look forward to.

It would have to be non-canon, but I agree it could be fun.

I think it the best fit would be to use the Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel (all of them in one group), NCR, and Caesar's Legion. The Enclave would have expensive troops, but be incredibly powerful. The BoS would have semi-expensive troops and be rather powerful. NCR would have semi-cheap troops and be sort of powerful. And Caesar's Legion would have really cheap troops and be not too powerful.

Something that I think would be bad though is the lack of variety. Many of the factions just have an assortment of foot soldiers, and the Enclave has Vertibirds.

I think a turn based strategy game like Civilization would work well for Fallout.

A non-canon rts style game for Fallout would be awesome. Although it would probably work better as a mod rather than an officially developed title.

There was going to be a Fallout Mod Never Changes for Company of Heroes. Needless to say, I was excited but the author instead moved it to Command and Conquer Generals. It would be non-canon because of vehicles, planes, special abilities, etc.

i think total war would be the best format for a fallout RTS. the only total war i've played is total war shogun, but from what i remember you had turn-based and the option to physically go in and fight your battles every round RTS style. that would give it a nice mix of options as to how you want to fight your battles. a little game-mode where you can go into battles as your own imported character from canon games and fight the way you do in F3/NV would be cool as well.

don't forget too add in House. semi-expensive units, on par with enclave if not stronger, but much weaker to pulse weapons that you can give as upgrades to your units. and since this is non-canon, can we add in the institute with the androids? start out around NCR skill, but end up near enclave or BOS skill. they would be cheap, but highly dependent on expensive upgrades throughout the game

I think adding too many factions would be... not good. A fix to the variety problem is too team up factions, so even though they may be called NCR you can also have Securitrons, and maybe Boomer Artillery Units, and a special B29 bomber.

Caesar's Legion could have Great Khan people, and White Legs, although those don't sound too great.

I think BoS should be West Coast, Midwest, and East Coast just to give them tons of variety.

And Enclave would just be Enclave, but they could have Enclave soldier, Sentry Bot, Mr. Gutsy, Enclave Officer, Fallout 2 Vertibird (used mainly for transport with low weaponry, Fallout 3 Vertibird (low transport, but has lasers and carpet bombing) Hellfire Soldier, Tesla Soldier, Deathclaw, and maybe a few others.

Maybe each side could have one mega unit. NCR would be a B29 bomber, Enclave would have Frank Horrigan, BoS would have Liberty Prime, and I guess the Legion would have Legate Lanius.

I like the idea of mixing various factions to have more a variety in troops. Maybe though instead of just having whats in the game you could modify your armies weapons and armor while still staying the the fighting style of the group you control. It's a interesting concept.

NCR could have fixed-up bombers, Brotherhood could have salvaged Vertibirds, and...well, I think Caesar's Legion falls short on that one.

Yeah but there numbers make up for that. The also have legion veterans, Legion assassins, etc. People seem to think of the legion as really basic but look at some of there higher ranking more advanced troops. There carry things like anti material rifles, Marksmen carbines, Ballistic fists, etc.

In terms of military technology, Caesar's Legion is just there. :D

Not with there lower ranked troops no. It has more to do with skill and versatility then technology.

They have to rely on skill and versatility because they have no technology. Their strategy would be get tons of normal guys then have some stealth oriented people. Then you would have to use them effectively together.

I made a draft of this and my ideas. I don't know why I do these things. Anyway it takes inspiration from CoH(As I really enjoyed it) and I think I did it pretty well. A problem that will come up is unit variety and the power of certain units. NCR is fine but nearly ever other faction isn't.

Maybe in every faction you have people that can produce better weapons and stuff like Legionary blacksmiths, Enclave scientists, Brotherhood engineers, NCR gunsmiths.

In most RTS games those would be upgrade to buildings. So I think if you have say a factory-esque building. Legion would be war tent or something, NCR would be factory, something like that. Anyways you could get upgrades and outside maybe their could be the people you mentioned.

A non canon one would be the best. Sort of like a "what if" type of game. It would have the factions of all the games. BoS, Enclave, NCR, Ceasar's Legion, Khans(?), The Master's Army, possibly some new factions as well.

Would be kinda cool. But I agree with Andronicus. Would probably work better as a mod.

It would work good as a mod but it should be available to all players. Not everybody is able to play on the computer. Like me I have to rely on the Xbox.

It probably would be condemned to the bargain bin then.
Halo wars was very dependant on it being a Halo game. I don't think a Fallout RTS would have that kind of pull.
And PC players will just use mods instead.
