Fallout 4 Survival Mode update details

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 5:43 pm

The only reason to complain about it is due to game freezes, which do happen outside of fast travel. I have had my game freeze on loading screens when entering a building. I would be totally cool with the game going to a bedside save in the event of death, but I should have the option of saving when I want to save. It isn't a deal breaker, but I can see it causing frustration on consoles.

I've had my game crash plenty on PS4 and I'm not one bit bothered or worried by this. Crashing and Bethesda games go hand in hand. Replaying a little bit won't kill anyone.

So download a sleeping bag mod? Seriously sleeping bags are all over the Commonwealth.

I mean like its hard not tripping over them.

If this is for real then it looks like a good set of features.

In Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas I hardly use Fast Travel. I hardly use Fast Travel in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as well.

I mostly travel by foot from one end of the video game world map to the other end of the video game world map even if it's the same routes I took.

I enjoy seeing the sceneries, even while in combat killing the enemy NPC's.

Same here, the 2 things I am looking foward the most. And I will also turn that assaultron into a gladiatrix for the workshop, and further use it to complete the Far Harbor DLC.

I'll try it.

But I'm skeptical of this new save feature.

Woot! I hope they at least keep the save mechanics in the beta. I want to try that before deciding I don't want it. I still think letting us save at chairs/furniture where we can wait too would be better. >.>

Didn't they say in the original article (interview) that they were going to get feedback from beta before deciding exactly what they were going to include in this mode? Or am I mistaken in that?

He did. He said it would be tested extensively in beta, perhaps even for as long as a month if I remember correctly.

From the tweet: "We’re still messing w/ it."

Some changes may happen, but for the most part it will remain as it is. Most changes will probably be just some small numbers in the code.

Everything in there looks awesome....except the disabling of saving. I probably won't be playing on survival now because of it which is a shame because I currently play on it.

One problem with fast travel is much of the game is missed. All those unmarked buildings, random encounters, merchants that do not go to bases. Bethesda is the master at putting in all the little details to reward exploration, and if you fast travel you are not exploring.

I am currently doing a no fast travel playthru and the game is much more immersive world. I thought I would need fast travel for saving settlements from themselves against raiders, but you can run across the map in time as long as you avoid randos. However I do still need fast travel to warp my stuck companions back to me so they would need to add a dog whistle before I commit to a true Fast Travel lockout.

No fast travel does go with survival, because you will consume more time and resources while traveling - and survival mode is more about managing those time and resources than normal mode is.

I like everything except for not being able to save anywhere and damage sponge.

Finding a bed to save is a major waste of time, especially if the game crashes and you have to reload somewhere far from where you were.

Bullet sponges are stupid to me as it strips the RP away from RPG by forcing you to meta game and use all the best perks and gear that some of us prefer to avoid. I like being weak and surviving, I don't want other humans to be bulletproof in their flannel shirts and harnesses.

Most of it sounds interesting. I hope they tweak Radstorms too.

Why reduce the damage in the first place if survival grants a perk to increase damage? Doesn't make sense.

So if you can't Fast Travel, then how can you get to that certain location? Personally, I prefer customization. Being able to choose whether I can Fast Travel or Save on Sleep should be a choice. Maybe the introduction of a Settlement Transit system and have a few random encounters similar to Fallout 1 and 2 while on the trip. So instead of walking all the way from Sanctuary Hills to Atom Cats Garage, I can just hop on the Settlement Transit System at Sanctuary Hills and get off at Warwick Homestead and just walk a little ways to Atom Cats Garage. Could even set it up so that one Settler is required to operate each Transit Station.

"Survival automatically grants the Adrenaline perk, which provides a bonus to your damage output. Unlike other perks, the only way to increase your rank of the Adrenaline perk is by getting kills (hostile or otherwise). The higher your Adrenaline rank, the higher the damage bonus. Sleeping for more than an hour, however, will cause your Adrenaline rank to lower. You can check your current Adrenaline rank at any time in the Perks section on the Stat tab in your Pip-Boy."

It's just another layer to the sleep mechanic. My point is, they're actively trying to avoid the bullet sponge aspect.

We don't know that the damage will have been reduced anymore. They are revamping the mode. Now it sounds like weapons in general will be more deadly and that playing tank will be a lot less advisable. You want to be the guy who shoots first.

That sounds good to me. I want the challenge of kill or being killed with realistic bullet damage...this would make everything more intense then simply riddling an overpowered enemy.

I doubt there will be any transit stations or an new FT options. Beth most likely expects people to use Vertibirds or the thingie you get in act 3 by joining a certain faction.
