Fallout 4 system requirements?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:46 pm

Hey everyone...i'm looking to build a new rig for the next generation of gaming...as we all know games are getting more and more advanced :-)

Here's what i'm looking at:

EVGA 1300W G2 Power Supply

MSI Z97 Mobo

i7 4790K Devil's Canyon Quad Core (4.GHz)

32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3

2X EVGA 970 GTX 4GB Graphics

Is this overkill...or staying ahead of the curve??

If you're talking about Fallout 4 requirements (as that's the forum we're in :)) then... honestly, no-one knows. But my guess is, that's overkill verging on the obscenely excessive :D.

Actually, it's probably overkill for gaming in general, unless you're going for very high resolution in the most demanding games - or preparing for VR a couple of years down the line ;)

Major overkill. I only have one 4 GB graphics card (same one) and half the RAM (also same brand). Skyrim runs at about 100 FPS when graphics are maxed out without mods. I think you're good.

As for power supply, my 750W power supply is going a bit overboard, but I got that in-case I ever decided to upgrade my PC. Your processor is fine though.

Obvious overkill. Unless your talking 4k gaming, then it may not pull 60fps steady.

It′s overkill and staying ahead of the curve. Don′t worry, You′ll be ok for gaming for the next 5 years minimum

If that's not enough to run FO4 maxed out, a lot of people in here are in trouble ;) haha

I might suggest a single GTX980 or 980Ti instead of the two 970's. SLI can be more hassle than it's worth.

I'd also say that 32GB of RAM is more than you're likely to need, at least for gaming.

Eh, unless you're planning to be working with 2D and 3D apps I'd say that 32GB RAM is twice as much as you need. I have 16GB and render in 3ds max and Daz Studio, 16 is too low for that, though, I noticed. But for gaming it's overkill, most games use between 4 and 8, at most. Extremely few uses those 8GB.

As have been said, it's better you get a single GTX980 card.

I'm guessing F4 will will run smoothly for everyone that can run Skyrim with full HD texture mods, add a mod with higher poly meshes and a ENB of ones choice, but not with full functions enabled. I can do that and get around 45-50fps. I have everything in my ENB enabled, though. As well as mods that adds more grass, trees and animals, so more stuff to work with. I have a single GTX 970, i7 2600k 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, and a couple of SSD's.

Are you planning on playing Fallout 4, recording a symphony orchestra, and making a video game at the same time?

Working with the team to announce the system requirements. I suspect it'll come 3-5 weeks before the launch of the game in November.

I'd go with a single 970 as it will still stomp FO4. With Nvidia's asynchronous shaders issue, I wouldn't invest heavily in a dx12 solution. If you're buying now for the long term, whatever it is you're doing, it ain't future-proofing.

You should see fallout 3 on Windows 10. :)
If Fallout 4 has DX 12 it will be awesome. The separate ssd's is just to keep my system independent from my games which I tend to change a lot. The hdd is there for recording video and keeping all of my music off my ssd, since it tend to be pretty large.
The 980 is just better bang for the buck, this card is pretty crazy and stays pretty cool over pretty long game sessions at max graphics. I tend to do 6+ hours at a time. I plan to sli it next year add another monitor and throw in a blue ray player, because tv svcks. :)

An observation: most everyone here seems to favor intel CPUs. Are AMDs not good?

Intel has been the go-to gaming CPU for some time now if you're not on a strictly regimented budget. AMD makes good chips but they can't really compete with the current high end Intel offerings.

Basically, Intel has a big lead in single core IPC [Instructions Per Cycle], which is what gives Intel its edge over AMD in DX9-11. With DX12, the edge is still there, but it doesn't result in as significant a performance gap.

...but FO4 isn't likely to be a DX12 title, so Intel should run it somewhat better.

I can change that in a jiffy! I have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.66Ghz), 4 gigs of system RAM and a GeForce 9800 GTX+ (1gig). That should even things out a bit. :D

Heh, yeah, your rig... might struggle a bit with FO4. How does it do with Skyrim?

And can you add more memory? I doubt more will be essential, but it might make for a smoother ride.
