Fallout Texture Overhaul?

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:46 am

Hi, just installed Fallout again and was about to start gathering mods so I can play. I was wondering if there were a site that listed/compared texture mods for Fallout 3. There is a list like this for Oblivion http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html and I find it quite handy and was hoping one like it existed for Fallout.

Any help is appreciated :)

Thanks in advance,
Scynthe

Yes and no. There are a few that bump those graphics beyond the point of the highest graphics card if I'm not mistaken.

*goes to look at what they were called*

-Megaton Re-Done Texture Pack
-NeilMc Terrain Pack
-Rivet City Maximum Resolution
-Rocks Add on Pack

I don't have the exact names. Those are the file names. But those give up to I think its like 8190 scale. Average is 1024.....so uh, yeah those are pretty huge and damn pretty look at =)

Oh and those are found at the Nexus.

Thanks. It appears that they are all done by the same author too. I guess there isn't as much variety as there was for Oblivion. I'll download them and give them a shot :)

While yer at it go grab Fellout v1.1

This alone will improve your game. Also don't use the street light stuff. DO pick up the green grass(not what you think, really it makes sense) and the Megaton mod they suggest. The lighting in other area's like street lights is pointless and rather unrealistically silly.

Fellout to give you an idea. Will make the game less grimy in a bad way. Read about it. It does make a lot of sense. Plus it can improve slightly your graphics by removing a lot of crap like all the "fog"....I mean really...fog?? (in a dusty dry place and a desert like world, some but not EVERYWHERE) lol

Yeah I already grabbed Fellout :) I used an older version of it back the last time I played. I mark it as essential. I think i used those texture packs before as well, just couldnt remember their names as they arent packed together in a single pack like Qarl's Texture Pack for Oblivion. Hopefully the new FWE comes out this weekend as has been hinted at and then I can dive back in :)

Save everything and use Arwen's modules. She banged out a new one and even gave us a fix (for a bug I found). Fun but very tricky. You can only be harmed several times before you die outright. Hell fire armor is the only saving grace...then again going UP against hellfire armored npc's....yer so screwed lol

My experience in this...and I have 'worked' on this quite a bit for personal use...

I use all the terrain texture replace mods for the misc, rocks, roads, roots etc. All at fairly high resolutions. A few others for better litter on the ground and misc items found all over. The ones for Megaton and River City too. All these teamed up with Fellout WITH the greener grass mod AND some color enhancing on top of it all, is nothing short than bloody amazing...in my book. I have not myself used the amazing color enhance mod mentioned a few posts above this one, but instead I enhance my colors (always have) through the control panel for my GFX card. It looks pretty much exactly the same as in the lowest settings in the above mentioned mod. Easy to find a good balance that makes the colors look not so washed out without making them too saturated. It's called Digital Vibrance for Nvidia I beleive, and just Saturation for the ATI cards. I do it this way, because then I get it in all programs, all games, all the time, and that is how I like it.

Anyhow, FO3 looks absolutely fabulous in FO3 with the other mods I mentioned earlier. The greener grass mod is really cool since it just makes some grass a little greener, not all. Some brighter green, some darker green, some still in different brownish colors. Not covering the world in a golfgreen or anything of the sort. Please try it out. This paired with Fellout gives a very nice feeling of a world ...slowly... trying to recuperate from the brutal [censored] that happened to it some 200 years earlier. It's a very refreshing feeling gameplay-wise not have the green fog/mist/atmosphere and everything on the ground brown, anymore. This and all the nice high res textures, makes the game look...a lot, better than it ever did vanilla.

...just my 2 cents...

Hej, nej det ?r det inte. ;)

The one I use is actually listed as an optional file on the Nexus Fellout download page. The one you linked looks pretty good too though, judging from the pictures. I might give it a try later on to see exactly what it looks like in game. I like that it adds just a little green, like the world is trying to slowly recuperate. It's nice to not have everything in just shades of brown all the time, everywhere (Oasis excluded).

Yeah, I meant the green grass mod mentioned on the optionals when you find Fellout. The creator of fellout on the first info page gives you his suggestions. The green grass was one of the suggestion. =)

PS- I see browncat reading this at the same time....I meant this page, naturally =P

Really?

I liked fellout.
but I love dynamic and enhanced weather more that I like fellout, and the darker nights with the street lights is amazing, I tired greener world but didn't like it.
everyone like there own brand, but I think dynamic weather and enhanced weather far out do Fellout, as it can rain anywhere and the storm sounds are very well done, and Fallout Street Lights, and Fallout Street Lights - Wasteland look great IMO.

but on textures, you about got it covered already.
