Oh hey it's this again.
FO3's atmosphere made no sense, why is everything still in ruins and people still struggling to live after 200 years?

Even though FO3 is a great game FNV kills it in every aspect aside from exploration. Which will be fixed by mods, and in some cases already has.

I've personally found New Vegas to be an all around better and more enjoyable game. It has more depth, the world and the people in it are more developed and interesting, and there's more focus on quests. That's just my two cents though.

No, You're a loony! (that was a joke.)

But seriously, No, It's not because its setting did'nt match anything, the Story was a rip-off, the characters and voice acting were bad (except amata.) and again, They just stole the plot.

But you miss it being dark? Dark and gloomy was'nt really an aspect of Fallout until 3.

In some respects yes NV is a better game , but I just thought the Fo3's being all well and good tucked up inside a vault , then BAM! your thrown out into the dark and gloomy wastes , Beats Being shot in the Head and having no background or story before that , Do you see what I mean

That is where we differ. I hated the back story in FO3. Every time I tried a role play I would be thinking in the back of mind. Is this what a vault dweller would do, and it ruined the idea of role playing for me. Not to mention the broken leveling system which allowed you to build an unkillable beast. Having no back story allows people who like to role play to use there imagination, and not have it ruined by what the devs think your back story should be. This is an RPG after all is it not?

I personally think FNV is better than F3, but the only thing is that in fallout 3 I could screw around more than I could in FNV. I could kill and random guy walking around and only get bad karma, if I do in FNV I'll get hated by some faction.

Yep , I guess so But Its hard to explain my views . . . When I was Loading up Fo3 I was thinking Oh I cant wait to see where Im at But On NV its the same story but when it stops loading Your Face drops when you remember where you last saved . . . Either where you last got lost inside a Vault maze or where you got tired of Some of the quests dead ends .

All of the Fallout games are dark and gloomy in their own ways. Bethesda just conveys their dark and gloomy atmosphere differently than Black Isle did and Obsidian does. Bethesda prefers a more direct approach with hordes of hostile enemies, and visual stuff like gore bags sprinkled around random dungeons and sickly tints. Black Isle preferred, and Obsidian prefers to convey darkness through characters and their actions rather than visual cues. I'd argue that New Vegas is just as dark as Fallout 3, the darkness of New Vegas is just handled differently.

Yeah. All this stuff I see claimed for FO3 being "a better game" is nebulous subjective stuff. Which can certainly make it better for you, but which doesn't make it a better game objectively speaking.

umm contradiction much?

how about using that fancy imagination of yours to imagine you werent a vault dweller at all?

I had no problem blanking my history so to speak when it came to RPing in F3.

Its Nothing realy I just feel New Vegas is . . . .well . . . .Lacking , I dont know what but it just doesnt feel as good as Fo3 .Heres an example . . Take . . the dunwich building ,wandering down those corridors I actually felt Uneasy . . I kept looking behind me . I love the game But Fo3 will always be at the top of my list . Please reply if you disagree because it just my opinion .

I think it's just a matter of taste. I think cerebral people like New Vegas and visual people like Fallout 3. That's a major generalization and I'm sure there are exceptions, but that is how it feels to me. Some people are so focused on the story and the characters and the dialog in New Vegas that they don't really see all the huge empty areas around New Vegas. They don't seem to mind endlessly running errands for people. They like that it seems more like Fallout 1 and 2.

I think visual people might prefer Fallout 3. There is just so much more detail in the landscape. Not in the story and dialog, but the landscape and what's in the landscape. It's a visual exploration. Fallout 3 people also don't care so much that even though it's 200 years in the future it still looks dark and dingy and atmospheric. That's part of the visual appeal. They don't care that it's not realistic.

It would be nice if they could successfully combine the cerebral with the visual in Fallout 4.

Anyway, this is my little theory. The intellectual versus the emotional.

I disagree that it's "through and through" a better game. I'll listen to the argument for atmosphere and exploring FO3 is better.

But as far as writing/dialogue, voice acting, content, hardcoe mode, options, your actions having an impact on the endgame, plausibility of the factions and their interaction with the society, game mechanics, moral ambiguity, weapons, weapon audio, difficulty, character building, denerfed Death Claws, companions, quests, depth, I find New Vegas to be an improvement.

For me, more office buildings and metros to explore for "loot" does not a superior game make.

In some respects yes NV is a better game , but I just thought the Fo3's being all well and good tucked up inside a vault , then BAM! your thrown out into the dark and gloomy wastes , Beats Being shot in the Head and having no background or story before that , Do you see what I mean

I do see what you mean but that has now already been done. I personally have embraced a totally different atmosphere for the new game. I already DID the Capitol Wasteland.
I'm frankly very glad they changed it up.

I still hope that in the next game Bethesda takes their awesome map skills and upgrades their crappy stories and if Obsidian does it then i hope that they learn from their map mistakes like half of the map being unaccessible and they keep doing what they are doing with the story.
