Fallout 4 too much $$$!?

Gabriel77Dan =/= People

He's the first person I've seen complain about the price tag and the only thread I've seen complaining about the price was a guy from Brazil who was pretty justified in complaining considering how much he has to pay (about 200 USD i think). So i'm still not sure who/where these people/threads you're referring to are.

One out of how many. There is never a time when nobody at all complains a bit about, well, almost everything.

I remember before Oblivion came out and I had spent hundreds and hundreds upon hundreds of hours playing Morrowind, I made a post saying I would spend $100 for that much content and I meant it. I still would. Because the money I save alone at going out and buying movies and on several expensive hobbies I have and have curtailed so I can have time to play games, more than pays for a game.

Like I said, I think it's a big bang for the buck. And the more content in a game, they more I'd be willing to pay.

That said, I won't even buy a shooter unless it's on sale at bottom dollar prices but that is because I can only get 20 or 30 hours out of a FPS. So I guess I will nag a bit about the price of some games.

But yeah, a game I spend hundreds of hours on ends up saving me some bucks and boost my budget. Not only that but when it's a winter release I stay off of those slick highways as well. :lmao:

Normally yes I think that 30$ or 40$ is more in line for a fair video game price. Bethesda games though are a rarity though that have never failed yet to make me feel like im getting my moneys worth

Dear IceDrake,

60 dollars is quite a bit for those that don't have all that much money to spend. Sure, you might say gaming is a luxury.. But, in the US, the middle-class (the class that would take part in this luxury have been garnering less and less money to throw together). Here are a few examples for which my country, the US, is having trouble with: high student debts (forced to rent instead of buy property good indicator - lack of proportional interest rates), rising medical costs + health insurance (greed from private insurers and drug manufacturers), rising production rates as income rates lower, etc.. Ya, inflation has been at work.. The amount of income has been deflating at this same rate.. Can you explain to me why it is so wrong for people to be bothered with this?

Video game passes are akin to an organization selling season passes before the stadium has started being built. There is a difference. Not to mention most sporting organizations often extend other bonuses, such as better seating, to season ticket holders as well as a discounted price overall, something video game passes cannot claim. Funnily enough, I've also never bought a season pass for anything. Just because other business use this practice doesn't mean I have to be ok with it. Other people wanna buy it for their favorite game? Sure, it's their cash. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean they shouldn't make use of the deal being offered them. I just don't see the point of taking such a pointless gamble, especially with a game such as Fallout and it's modding scene.

Beth already saw my interest in FO4 when I ordered the Pipboy edition, and they'll very much likely see it again when the dlc comes out, but only when they actually have something to sell, not before. I'd rather pay the 10-15 dollars extra it'll cost me to get the dlc separate, so as I can make an informed decision on if I want them or not. I have no problem with $30 bucks, that's not my issue with season passes.

I don't like buying promises, I like buying products.

Production budgets have gone up, up, up, but the price for video games... hasn't. It's been $60 for at least a decade now. By all rights they should have raised the price by now, but they haven't.

The problem being discussed isn't if its right for the prices to go up, but rather the question of whether people should be (aloud) to be complaining or not.. Like people have more issues than in times past as far as economics go and they really do have a platform for raising concern about these things.. Their voices shouldn't be stomped out with the words "gaming is a luxury" or "don't be a whiner".. Like, can we respect people who are facing these issues?

Sure, but prices haven't changed. Why is anybody complaining now? Fallout 4 costs $60. Skyrim Cost $60. Fallout 3 Cost $60. So did Oblivion. Were those games too expensive?

When a cup of starbucks coffee costs an average of $5, you wouldn't need to forego many cups to buy a game. I agree that $60 is nothing to sneer at but for the amount of other forms of entertainment it's hard to beat that many hours of entertainment for $60. Cutting that much from a monthly budget is a matter of setting priorities. And if you still can't squeeze it in then you can wait to play the game until it goes on sale or you can get it second hand. There is always a way to make an extra $60.

Cinema has been around for over a century now, and some people still don't understand how rude that is?

Games may be considered a luxury by some as has been mentioned. It is all a matter or priorities though. I would much rather forgoe a few items and have a game that provides months of entertainment. Everyone can make a decision whether they think the game is worth the price or not or if they aren't ready to commit to buying the game until they see more.

I didn't make this thread to be anyone's financial advisor. I just don't know why people are even on the fallout 4 forums posting things if they don't plan to buy the game or think it is too expensive.

I haven't seen anyone complain about it, $60 is pretty much the going rate for any new game

Gaming has never been a cheap hobby. Sad truth. Old NES cartridges weren't exactly a dime a dozen back in the day.

I just can't believe we live in a world where hundreds of hours of content isn't worth $60. There are tons of people not buying the game till way after release because they want to know every detail of what is in the game as well.

Inflation hasn't affected games at all, they have been almost the same price for like 20 years. What the hell else can you say that about?

It baffles me how anyone can sit at their computer and attempt to justify how $60 (£45 RRP in the UK) is too much for a Bethesda game. You can sit there and talk about how times are hard and that inflation gives you less expendable income. Well guess what? Everyone is in the same boat. The developers need to be paid. Inflation affects them too! They're making AAA games with play times and content that are far and away beyond what most of their competitors are doing for the same retail price. Who in their right minds can even consider that an unfair deal?

They are the same people that complain about the game price by posting using a new $499 iPhone. Most people who complain they have a tough time with the price just have different priorities which is fine and it is thier right. I have gone through MANY rough financial patches in my life but when a fallout or elder scrolls game comes out you better believe I will bust my butt to make sure I can afford it whether that means selling something or working overtime or even mowing the dumb neighbor's yard if it comes to that

Inflation has been nearly nonexistent since 2008, there hasn't been any real increase in game prices in a long time.

It's not game prices going up, but wages have either gone down or remained unchanged.

Well, I guess people are different. I'm also the type that occasionally backs an idea on Kickstarter because I'd like to see that idea come to fruition. Same deal here. The more people who back the DLC in advance, the bigger chance we'll have of better and more DLC. Entrepeneurs who take risks and initiative are usually the ones who makes things happen while the rest sit back and watch. I'm all for supporting that spirit.

The problem with the Kickstarter comparison is that I've never heard of anyone starting up a campaign and going "I'm making a movie. No idea what it's about yet, what genre it is, or anything else like that, but donate now!"

There isn't an idea or concept here to come to fruition. At least not one that they're presenting to get your business.

Yeah I think the Pip-Boy addition is a waste of money, I love the series but I'm not gonna spend over 100 dollars for a game. With how big a game like Fallout 4 is gonna be, 60 is definitely the right price.

I don't know if FO4 is worth $60 because I haven't played it yet(obvious I know). I think the vanilla version of SKyrim is worth $40 just because the main story and civil war are not that good to me. The Legendary version I think is worth $60 with DawnGuard and Dragonborn main stories making up how lackluster the main story is for Skyrim.
