If they make a Fallout movie im sure its gonna be stupid like any other videogame movie, Why? Because its going to be directed by a guy who haven?t played a game in his life, writed by a brain-less stupid writer and produced by an unscrupulous money-[censored].

PD: Uwe Boll should be frozen and sended into a black hole for the good of videogames and mankind.

If they do make a movie/tv show, then hopefully some guys from beth can keep an eye on production.

Trademarking doesn't mean they are actually going to do anything with it...

Just means they are making sure that something doesn't rip on their IP.

Even if they do, i couldn't give a crap because all i care about is what influences the game.

Wouldn't "Fallout: The Movie" be a straight remake of A Boy And His Dog?

This is very true.

The trademark was filed in early February, do we know if the IMDB posting went up before then? You'd expect Bethesda to trademark something like this well in advance of a movie consideration, and I'd expect it to take some time to get some people on board. Even if Bethesda trademarked this in February and the movie wasn't listed until March that seems awfully quick.

It could simply be that someone is making a post-apocalyptic movie called Fallout and Bethesda wants to make sure they don't infringe on their Fallout.

I'm pretty sure they first filed the trademark a few years back, and the trademark could have expired because it was unused, so this filing was probably done after the first one's expiry.

[quote name='Me']I would support a Fallout movie based on Fallout 1; Directed by Terry Gilliam, and starring Nicholas Cage as the Vault Dweller. With live (or voice) cameos by the surviving cast members of the original game (Imagine Tony Shaloub as Aradesh, and Brad Garret as Harold's voice, David Warner as Morpheus; Richard Dean Anderson as Killian). IMO that's the way to go. Get a script based on a tweaked but plausible path through the game (only as a base), and hand it off to a pro to refine it [with freedom to re-write anything/everything if it makes it a better film].[/quote]

The Fallout Forums, a supposed place to find fans of the Setting.. someone posts something that may imply something new may possibly be done with the setting in the form of a possible future TV series and/or movie and do we get excited fans.. nope... we get the usual whingers.. sad indeed.

I for one would welcome anything Fallout related, the more love this setting gets the better. I love Fallout and the more of it I get exposed to in ANY form the happier Ill be quite frankly.

OBVIOUSLY if it ever is done I would want a decent quality film or series to be made as opposed to a half a**ed version but that in no way detracts from the fact it would love to hear that one is being made.

Man the negativity on these boards at times is suffocating... how about a little optimism? Many of you guys are far to young to be starting out this pessimistic.. have a little faith in the possibility of something good, you may just end up pleasantly surprised.

That's what I thought about Hitchiker's Guide until I looked into it, and found out that the writer had never read the book prior to being handed the job, and that the director(s) seemingly had mostly music videos as prior film experience. Alas... It was neither pleasant nor a surprise. :(

Well, only being a music video director beforehand is no indication that your film is going to svck - Alex 'I, Robot' Proyas and David 'Se7en' Fincher are both former music video directors. I'm pretty sure that Chris Cunningham (Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy', Madonna's 'Frozen') will emerge as a future film director.

The Hitchhiker's movie wasn't awful, it just fell foul of the same problem that beseiges those Sky One adaptations of Terry Pratchett books - it all should have been done 10 years earlier, preferably by Terry Gilliam.

My pick for Fallout movie director would have to be Robert Rodriguez. (Planet Terror has the perfect blend of gross-out violence and kitsch comedy.) Interestingly, he was inspired to make movies by Escape From New York.

Hopefully nothing will come of this. A Fallout movie and TV show would be pointles and mar the franchise's name just like Brotherhood of Steel did.

Look at long gloried history of movies based off games, then explain the need for us to be glad. This place is a site for the fans of the games, not necessarily dutiful fans like you that just love seeing anything Fallout. For a TV version of Fallout, heh, well there's so much dreck on there, it might have a shot of being liked due to low standards. But oh well, I guess it has to be all cheer and rainbows, heh.

I like Hitchhikers movie, sure it's not a patch on the books and trampled over alot of stuff but i thought it was a fun for what it was.

Which is all well and good but its fairly sort sighted.

How does assuming IF a fallout Tv show or Movie is made that it will be Dreck (someones been reading his 2000AD I see :) ) before it is even made help anything? Do you not see how that kind of negative assumption prevents things from happening? If everyone instantly assumes something is awful and doomed to fail before it even happens then the people looking at possibly making it think well there isnt any interest or people obviously dont want it.. essentiqally your shooting yourself in the foot with a negative position on something that in no way can be noted as such until AFTER the fact.

By all means form opinions after somethign exists.. but shooting them down before they happen is totally counter-productive.

Just because some shows and movies relating to other IP's, produced by OTHER people in no way is ANY indication of what something Fallout based that may be created would be like. lol

If they had followed this kind of negative thinking for the computer game FO3 would never have been made. And all us fallout fans would still be likely waiting for a FO3 to EVER happen.

Personally I'd sooner give review, opinion, good or bad on things after they are out, than assume they are all going to be crap and shoot themdown before they get made or considered.

Lets not forget "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtBa5SS33JI". Music videos can be awesome, but 5 minute videos, and feature films compare like "flash" games to Morrowind (or also as the short story to the novel). Being great at either one, does not confer great skill at the other. Hitchiker was not just a book loved by tens of millions, but also Douglas Adam's final farewell. To me it was a bit like entrusting the planning of someone else's 50th year wedding anniversary to a highschool party planner (mess that up, and who could forgive you).

Alan Rickman was the best possible voice to cast for Marvin; A five start choice on their part [IMO], but then they lose 5 stars for not using Peter Jones' recorded dialog as "the Book" ~Verbatim (they should have bent the film to fit it).

I really ~really wanted to like it [just like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7Qo74_L3vo ] (and I did... Just like Bubba-ho-tep ~Its just I couldn't like it nearly as much as I'd hoped to). As it is, I like the TV one that the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Boo9llCz4CM&feature=related much better despite its dated appearance.

*BTW IIRC at one time Adams had wanted Hugh Laurie [aka. "House"] to play as Aurthur (I don't know if that changed).
~Myself, I'd have cast "Tim Roth" or "Roger Daltry" as Ford Prefect.

The Hitchhiker's movie wasn't awful, it just fell foul of the same problem that beseiges those Sky One adaptations of Terry Pratchett books - it all should have been done 10 years earlier, preferably by Terry Gilliam.
I agree.
The story goes that they shopped it around to a few big-ticket directors and all of them declined (the common reason supposed being none wanted to be known as "the guy who screwed up Hitchiker").

I understand what you mean, and in a way I feel similarly. (and in a way its a bit like Fallout 3 :P)

Prejudging something is fine if there's a history of failure, in this case my pessimism is just about movies or tv shows based on games, not some lifestyle statement. Might be that games don't translate well at all to other forms of media, or the creators never bother to really look at their source material. That and they're just ill thought through cashgrabs. Not shooting myself in the foot by this either, if the movie comes and doesn't svck - then I'll be pleasantly surprised. I disagree with the assertion that "fallout fans" would be waiting for a FO3, not everyone needs a sequel

Except there is no history of failure because there has been No Fallout Movie or TV show, generalising it by saying well all other game related movies and shows have been awful is in itself a massively sweeping statement that is assuming of everyone else's opinion for them. As not every game related movie or show has been a failure, indeed the Resident Evil films have (with the exception of the third one) all done very well.

Not shooting myself in the foot by this either, if the movie comes and doesn't svck - then I'll be pleasantly surprised.

This just brings me back to what I noted before.. with people assuming they are going to be bad and saying goodness no we dont want some crap film or tv show, dont bother...before it ever gets made, the likelihood of you ever getting the chance to see one related to it that does or does not svck is reduced.. its self defeating.

far more constructive to support the idea, have it come out and then judge it for good or bad then.. rather than jump the gun and just assume whether one is made or not that it will be god awful, because others about other games have been before.. (sweeping, generalised statement with no relevance to this show, or this movie).

I disagree with the assertion that "fallout fans" would be waiting for a FO3, not everyone needs a sequel

That doesnt change the fact that lots of us did.. and we eventually got one, thankfully :)

Yes, and there was never any history of Max Payne movies either, and that movie turned out to be pretty garbage. The flaw lies in the mere concept of a movie based on a game, and the past history of dreck that idiots still pay money to see speaks to one to not be optimistic about ANY game-based movie (although it's a popular clamour among, heh, fans these days). As I said, I assume it will be garbage, but if it turns out differently then that's fine. My objection to this idea, other than the whoring aspect, is the simple matter that I do not believe Fallout lends itself well to a movie or TV setting, what with the scope and appeal of the series being what it is. As for being constructive, that's a bit deluded to assume being positive to any idea for a Fallout movie, or a Mechwarrior movie or whatever really has any bearing on the development of the idea by any pertinent parties.

Finally, lots of Fallout fans -needed- a new sequel ? Heh. Okay.
