Fallout Trilogy Installation Help

Post » Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:04 pm

I recently bought the Fallout Triple-Pack and installed it on my semi-new Dell XPS laptop, and at first everything seemed fine. I started playing the first Fallout, and when I turned it off my computer got an error message and then crashed and I got a blue screen followed by the system restarting. This continued to happen even when I used other programs, so I figured I'd have to uninstall it. Since I knew I was getting windows 7 I thought I'd wait so I could try to install on 7, so when it came in the other day and I set it up, I installed the pack again. This time no problems with the install, but when I tried Fallout 1 & 2 and the main screens came up, but everything was messed up the colors were all off and there were black and white pixels all over the screen (kind of looked like technicolor). However Fallout Tactics worked, but I wasn't comfortable with trying the games out in case anything did happen, so I uninstalled it again. Has anybody else had similar issues, and know how to solve them? Because I love Fallout 3 and really enjoyed what I played of Fallout and would like to continue playing.

I recently purchased the Fallout Triology pack. I have installed and uninstalled it several times on my acer laptop and each time I have installed it I keep getting an error message when I try and play any of the games on it. It comes up as an application error each time. Is there any help you can give.

What is the exact error message?

What OS are you using?

Couple standard tips:
* Make sure you have updated video and audio drivers.

* Use Compatibility Mode (right-click the icon, select Properties, click on Compatibility tab, check the Compatibility mode check box and set for Win 95 or 98.)

I have done everything on the link page except edit the notepad, how do I access this? I went into the notepad but it was empty. Also I ran the original Fallout in high resolution after reinstalling it, and it ran fine however after the opening credits the screen shrank to a much smaller size, with a black background behind, like it was in widescreen format or something. Also Fallout (non high resolution) and Fallout 2 still have the color pallete problem, which I assume is related to the notepad.

I am using windows xp. I am using a hard copy of the trilogy I purchased from target if that makes a difference.

The error message pops up as: Application Error: C:\Program Files\gamesas\Fallout\Falloutw.exe

Then inside of the error box it says: The instruction at 0044e0cd6 referenced memory from 003d6f30
The memory could not be read from
Click ok to terminate the application

It does this when I try and play any of the three games Fallout, Fallout 2. Oddly enough Tactics works fine it seems.

I found the notepad and edited it, however when I saved it, I got a message saying "access denied." I'm not sure what to do, I unchecked the read only box and gave myself full control and it still won't work!
