fallout trilogy pack

Post » Thu Jul 08, 2010 4:33 am

i bought the fallout trilogy pack to play on my laptop, but the colors on fallout 1 and 2 are messed up and it is very irritating. i dont know why it would do that. tactics works fine and im using an acer aspire 5570-2758 model laptop. does anyone know why this might happen? i thought it was the disc at first, so i returned it and got another disc from a different best buy from where i got my first copy of the game pack. the second disc has the same problems. could someone please help me?

Try waiting longer next time to bump your thread. 21 minutes isn't long enough. Have you updated your drivers?

Go to Computer, right click and hit properties, go to device manager in the top right corner, and tell me what your video card is.

Try setting the compatibility at 256 color and disable themes, and set the OS emulation to win95.

Do all of this by right clicking the Fallout shortcut that you use to run the game, and select Properties, then Compatibility.

Try Win 98 then (win 2000 is tricky).

~If you are running Vista, set it to XP.

There is a last resort that should work... but the catch is a doozy.

whats the catch?

You should be able to install the Killaps fallout 2 patch (in the FO2 directory), then copy the custom Ddraw.dll and it's INI file into the Fallout 1 directory... You can set the INI file to use Dx9 32 bit or 16 bit color... and Fallout should run but slightly slower (very slightly).

The catch is awful... No in game movies (they will all be corrupt.)

i dont know what to do now. the colors just dont get fixed. now fallout 2 wont run at all, fallouts colors have the same problem. heres what im doing now:

run this program in compatibility mode
windows xp(service pack 2)

run in 256 colors

disable visual themes

the problems are still there. ive tried windows 95, 98 and xp. none work right still and i can get fallout 2 to work at all.

Well, if they don't help, uncheck them. What graphics card are you using?

*It may be that the Killaps method is the only alternative. Does FO2 work at all? (likely not... they are basically the same).

** I see your Laptop model, so I can check for the card.

i get it to work, but the colors are most of the time messed up. however, strangely, sometimes the colors are exactly right. i uncheck the boxes and can play fallout 2, it wont run in compatibility mode though. what is this?:intel graphics media accelerator 950?

That's the graphics card. (and very likely the problem too.)

why?

I dunno really... but Fallout is a palletized game from 12 years ago and the graphics accelerator may just not play nice with it (Fallout does not use a 3d accelerator). I really do not know exactly.

Here is the Intel product page and information...

It is possible that you have the latest driver already.

I know you bought these for your Laptop... but do you perhaps have any older PC from the last 14 years? It will most likely work without hitch.

so i cant play a game because my graphics card is too good? what a shame. i have an older laptop that im hoping might be able to play the game. the problem is, theres no place to put discs in. they replaced it with an extra lithium-ion battery. longer battery-life, but i cant play discs. it runs on windows xp, and was made back in 2003 i think. weird. i posted the older laptop thing before reading your edit asking me.

Hold on... hold on...
Did you tried pressing Alt+Tab?

Pressing Alt+Tab while in the game will take you back to windows press it a second time (or as many times needed-depending on the programs you have open) to get back to the game - that fixes the problem for me (at least for some time - but if it happens again later do the Alt+Tab routine again, it only takes a second)

Get a Flash drive ~any will do these days.

Copy the entire CD to the Flash Drive, and follow these instructions...
