fallout trilogy re-released

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 2:18 pm

I was at my local target and was looking at the movie isle when I bumped into the PC games and noticed that there was a re-released version of the fallout trilogy. It included Fallout 1,2 and tactics and it was only for the PC. Its specifications make it perfect for almost any PC. This is just a little FYI for those interested in playing the originals, I plan on going back and getting it befor its gone.

I got it on GoG, but I would have loved to have it on disc.

I don't see why. There's no DRM on the GoG version, I don't think there's a download limit, and without DRM you can just burn the files to disc if you want a hard copy. I don't think disc art and a box are worth it. If it were, I'd spend an afternoon making my own cover and pressing a DVD label.

I think he basically just likes to have a physical retail copy in his collection. To me,my videogame collection takes a centre piece in my room along with my book shelf and my dvd collection.

/nods.

I can't really explain it - I just feel better having the disc. I could burn a copy of the downloads (and ought to, so that I don't need to d/l them next time) but Sometimes it's nice to just look at the shelf and see some of my old favorite games - even if I don't play some of them anymore. I suppose it's for nostalgia's sake more than anything else.

But GOG is an awesome thing - I'm glad to see games that otherwise people might not be able to obtain anymore.

I suppose I just see it completely practically. Not "better" or "smarter", just only in terms of what is "useful". And the way I see it, a burned CD/DVD with marker or a pressed DVD label to identify it as my Fallout disc, sitting in one of those disc folders, would be just as practical as a retail copy of the disc. The ability to do this is one of the main reasons I went with GOG, actually, since I don't even know if I can easily make back-ups of some of the disc releases.

I understand why people would prefer to have an 'official' copy with box, sleave and disc fresh from the factory. Even I do to an extent, but I don't go out of my way for it.

Considering we have the penguins to think about in recent years, digital pipeline will likely become alot more prominent in the near future. We've evolved from cardboard boxes to tidy DVD holders. Pretty soon I imagine plastic will become a commercial relic.

I hope plastic becomes a commercial relic. I can't stand the packaging around the packaging that's around the packaging... It's ridiculous. I understand why they have all that nonsense on there but it sure is wasteful.

I just saw this at Target today as well. It's 19.99 there. It's in a nice little package. Came here to see if anyone had posted about it yet and they had :)

I downloaded Fallout 1 off GoG. Played it, beat it, loved it! Never underestimate the awesomeness of retro games!
It's a little short though. I beat it within a week of purchase and did almost all of the quest. Comapre that to Fallout 3, where I've played for 70 hours and haven't even finished the main story yet (and will not even touch the game until they raise the level cap. May 5th can't come any sooner)!
It svcks that you can't play after the end, but I'm sure some mods will help me with that.

Now, onto Fallout 2!

Edit: And just to be clear, this is a "We Love Fallout Anything (besides the two BHoS games)" fourm right? No "OMG F3 SUX VAN BUREN SUD OV BEEN RELEZED BETHESDA R RETARDS!" Fallout fourm? We're all just Fallout fans enjoying our Fallout games? Good.

Also, I'm fine with having a Digital Copy of a game. It's the game that matters. Plus, if you get it off somthing like Steam, it patches automatically! But if the box art kicks too much ass (like the DNF box art will inevitably be) then retail it is!

You can burn a copy of the game or save it to an external harddrive from gog.com?

I mean, I was thinking of getting the trilogy version at bestbuy for like $20 and some change...although, I'm wondering if either version (the gog or retail) is at all censored? I've read that quite a bit of Fallout 2 was censored for having children or language or whatever.

No Mutants Allowed have patches for the GoG versions of Fallout 1 and 2 that remove the censorship. GoG sells the European edition of the game(likely because it's an international store), so it has the same censorship as their version had at release.

But you can copy the game to disc or an external hard drive as many times as you want. One of their selling points is "NO DRM".

I don't think so... The other day (in GOG FO2), a kid tossed a grenade at my PC and missed, blowing himself into bits.

Gotta say, I'm sold on the GOG.com version now. Being able to back up the game and save it on a disc or my external hdd...is a major plus.

I purchased it yesterday at Best Buy.
I have it on my laptop with Vista 32 and it plays really well.
I like it better then the originals as FALLOUT has the hi-rez version and works great on my 17 inch screen.
I recommend it highly. I have been playing the original versions on my old Dell 300 and the new hi-rez version on the PC is really good to look at (on my 17 inch screen that is).
They ought to put out a similar hi-rez version of Duke Nukem 3D. That would be great. A version for Descent and Descent 2 would be just fine also. What the heck, maybe even Quake, Quake 2 and the Doom series.
