Fallout Trilogy Setup Trouble

Post » Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:43 pm

Heya! I recently purchased a hardcopy of the Fallout Trilogy. Giddy as a schoolgirl, I ran home to install it and spend the rest of my day drowning in nostalgic bliss. Sadly, I encountered a speedbump.

During the installation, right after it asks me to select which products to install (I selected all of them, without the user created patches), my system crashes and restarts. I tried this manually, copying the zip files to my desktop without using the installer, and I have the same issue.

I'm running XP pro, and any other technical info that may be helpful I can provide, but I'm more or less at a total loss as to why I can't even install the games. Any assistance would be much appreciated, help me reach post apocalyptic nirvana! :(

Hmmm. We've installed it fine on XP Pro.

Could you give us some more information about your system?

What service pack are you using?

Have you recently updated your video and audio drivers?

Have you tried the disc on another machine? It could be a problem with the media. If it crashes on another machine, then return the disc to the store for a replacement or contact us.

Sorry to hear it, we'll try and get you up and running.

Alrighty, I'm using service pack 3, and I have windows updates on automatic so I shouldn't be missing anything there, unless it's one of the updates that's causing the problem...

Drivers are good, just checked them out not too long ago. I have installed the trilogy on another computer and all 3 games run great.

I do have an old copy of the original Fallout 2, so I'm going to load that up and see if that can tell me anything. It seems to me that my problem is somehow related to the extracting of the zip files to my disk before installation, but I will admit my understanding of the process is somewhat limited. Consider my science skill about a 15%.

Thanks!
