Fallout 4 is two months away---Why do I NOT feel hyped?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:33 pm

i can sort of understand they basically stopped releasing all info even screenshots like a week after e3 i understand too much hype like with skyrims pr campaign is a bad thing but this seems to be a case of too little hype. i mean come on we got people wondering if there even is a story! theyre being too secretive not even a peep of media besides the s.p.e.c.i.a.l videos. there being too little info is just as bad as too much maybe even worse. silence is a paradise for doubt.

Pretty much what I'll be doing, I've got a lot of interest in modding FONV so unless FO4 can wow me with the Let's Plays I'll just pass it up until later.

It's natural. For a few reasons, here's why:

#1- Maybe you subconsciously knew that riding the hype train day after day since E3 will drive you insane and risk potential burnout for when the game finally comes out.

#2- You're focused on another game series now, that's cool. Right now I'm back in Saints Row playing around with the new DLCs.

#3- Maybe you're busy with other things as well? This was mostly the case with me, I had other things to attend to that distracted me from Fallout 4.

#3.5- You're excited about something else. For me, I'm more excited that Halloween is next month. It'll give me a legit excuse to watch horror flicks/play horror games and scare myself [censored]less. xD

#4- We haven't heard much from Bethesda aside from E3, a few articles and screenshots, the SPECIAL videos and demos. In some way, they feel confident that they can trust us to trust them that this is going to be as good as they say it will be, so maybe you're just not that worried about it?

While I'm certainly looking forward to Fallout 4, I try not to get "hyped" for a game. That way if it's below expectations it's less disappointing, and if it's better than expected it's a pleasant surprise.

But I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it and spends lots of time on it. I've yet to play a Bethesda RPG I didn't greatly enjoy.

It's from a difference franchise, but I think it applies...

I'm of the same mindset. I only buy a game on release when I'm positive I'll enjoy it. That usually just means BGS games :P, but a few others as well. Most games overload us with info about the game before it comes out, to the point where it's almost impossible to actually be surprised by anything in it (I felt that way about Skyrim, even though I loved it). I'm glad they haven't done that with FO:4 (not yet, at least).

It sounds like BGS games just aren't for you at all. Which honestly makes me question a bit what you're even doing here, lol.

see i invest myself on Mass Effect back then to get utter disappoint at the end, Skyrim on the other hand didnt disappoint me, maybe it wasnt Morrowind but it was good and the side mission make me play it for a long long time.

So after i hear about Fallout 4 a month ago i been hype as hell waiting for this game, lol i but Mad Max hoping to keep me busy for a while but the game have 0 replaying, so now i have nothing to spend my time on.

*Bethesda marketing logic*

We learned from Skyrim that too much hype is a bad thing. Therefore the correct way to go must be NO hype, and to only show new trailers and demos to people who pay to see it by attending cons!

I may be late to this ball, but why was too much hype not good? Skyrim sold extremely well, lived up to the expectations for the large majority, received critical acclaim and revitalized a dying genre (open world games) AND way of making games (large production vs quick cash nab)

I have seen 1 bad review of Skyrim on steam, and the user had clocked over 1400 hours on it some time after the review. maybe it was the worst 1400 hours of his life?

I am missing something, I can't see why how Skyrim was handled was wrong. I am not defying this opinion at all, so you guys know, I am just unaware of the reason.

I try too but then I thnk about the Voiced protag and the whole pre war thing and...,doesn't mean that I don't like the rest but I'm not nearly as excited as I was for Skyrim.

A lot of people were upset that they talked about some features during the marketing campaign that eventually got cut when the game was actually released. Some people blame the "gimmicky release date" (everyone says gimmicky, I wonder who they're parroting), but I honestly don't believe a few extra months of dev time would have given us a more robust Civil War, or an economy we could sabotage.

With Fallout 4 announced so close to release, (and they've said this openly), they're really glad to be able to present us something much closer to the finished product we'll actually see on store shelves.

I don't know why they'd think that. It definitely wasn't a bad thing. Yes, the core fanbase were disappointed that it wasn't what it was said to be and the hype kind of ruined the experience for many, but it is one of the most successful games in history and is still talked about today as much as any other modern game. That much hype was actually a good thing for sales.

I'm not feeling the hype either. I don't understand. Maybe they're not hyping it up as much as they could and maybe it isn't as amazing as I was expecting after so many years. I'm actually much more excited for Jessica Jones than I am for Fallout 4, which is very weird.

Most likely because Beth is not trying to hype up the game at all and hype tends to lessen if it is not fueled regularly. They seem quite certain that the game will succeed with little investment into marketing... and they are probably right, "It is done by Beth" is today a good enough argument for most to buy the game.

I think the hype thing is less associated with Skyrim's reaction and more with what a lot of games after Skyrim suffered - games like Watch Dogs, or Assassin's Creed. All of Skyrim's "hype" woes could have been resolved by announcing the game closer to launch (ie closer to a final product).

Well, I'm hyped and excited by what I've seen so far. Still playing Witcher and having . Alternating it with FO3. Almost everything I've seen excites me. Then again with Bethesda games I look at their promos and then pretty much get what I expect and for me its very good.

Maybe the info so far just hasn't clicked with some folks? Others obviously not as thrilled with BGS as myself.

That's a good point, lots of games this generation have been overhyped before release and underwhelming after it.So it's understandable why Bethesda is trying to avoid the same fate.

I dunno. All these points are valid, but advertising has only one goal, to sell as many copies, and fast as possible. They did that VERY well.

The internal group who "failed" in this regard is the project planning team or Production Team having to cut content originally targeted for release. From a project management perspective, if improvement is required in the dev cycle, you don't short change the Marketing cycle to cope for the possibility of failure, you set more realistic goals or correct the failure point in the dev cycle and keep doing what worked from the marketing side.

Either way, I would actually PREFER to feel a bit more antsy about it, and I still can by watching the old stuff again. My poit is i shouldn't have to. It's their job to make me really want it, not mine to keep myself starving for it.

I think the hype train will be in full effect by the end of October, hell it seems to be already leaving the station now with all the recent tidbits this week alone. I know I'm getting more excited with every new video, article or piece of music they release.

Why you dont feel hyped? Well , maybe becaouse Fallout is going in wrong direction ? They did say they removed skills completely ! 2 major RPG elements defines Fallout skills and perks. So now we have only perks. So its bye bye RPG hello FPS . Y s there will be a lots of perks but still its not the same. And when you add voiced main character...FACE PALM ..... i will not even speak of possible invincible children and poor dialogs/story elements.....

I can just imagine all the "Bethesda has lost its way" threads that come with every game they release.

But seriously, Bethesda has not disappointed me in 20 years and I don't see it happening now. So yeah, I'm hyped!

I was massively hyped at announcement and the subsequent E3 trailer. I was dissatisfied with every game I tried to play. Looking at Gabriel77Dan's message, I am pretty much of the polar opposite opinion on every single one of his points. Eventually though, the hype has died down and I am at a state of excitement/interest.

I started playing Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and have been having a lot of fun sailing the seas and pillaging other ships. It's funny to me because everything that makes it a pirate game is fun, while everything that makes it an Assassin's Creed game is trash. The open world exploration is what I crave. Same thing with Far Cry 3. Great non-story stuff, horrible story stuff. Bethesda has a history of telling me stories via the exploration I love to do. More than anything else, wandering around and finding nooks and crannies that I missed on a previous play through is the rewarding part of the game for me.

its gonna be the best game in a long time, i've been waiting for fallout 4 for a long time, in my mind fallout 3 was a practice game for bethesda and there's no doubt in my mind that fallout 4 is gonna be blockbuster.
