Fallout 4 is two months away---Why do I NOT feel hyped?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:23 am

Hey guys, been a while since I have come to the Fallout 4 forum :D

Just a disclaimer that this is not another "oh no, Fallout is ruined!" thread so just bare with me!

---

I am a svcker for big game releases. From anything TES or Fallout to Pokemon, even big content updates to Team Fortress 2 get me hyped. Hell, even announcements for announcements get me going! I remember how much wait and hype I had to go with on waiting for any Pokemon main game info, and when Skyrim was announced which was worth the wait and hype (at the time...).

Fallout 4 was a long time coming, we all know that. I am sure I was not the only one nearly burnt out on all my games, just hoping Fallout 4 would be announced to rekindle your love of gaming. Sure, I would take up my time by doing new things in TES or Pokemon or even TF2, and obviously other stuff non-gaming related called my life

So at the moment, my time is invested in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Do not fret, this is not another "Witcher 3 is GOTY, Bethesda should learn from CDPR" post! Actually, Witcher 3 is all I have been playing lately along side some TF2 and Pokemon: Omega Ruby version. Thinking about firing up one of the TES games just for old time sake again soon...

I was hyped when Fallout 4 was announced but even more when more was shown at Bethesda's press conference. Buuuut, that faded away over time. I don't feel at all as hyped as I was for other big title games. I was even gonna replay Fallout 3 and New Vegas just to get ready for Fallout 4.

So what goes through my head when I think of Fallout 4?

"...meh..."

Not in a bad way, but just "meh". The first expansion for The Witcher 3 is coming October 13th and I am looking forward to that more than Fallout 4. Don't get me wrong, I am considering getting it sooner or later but it is not as a big priority of mine as other game titles were.

My thought is maybe it is because of certain things I am skeptical of but also the lack of any info on the story among other things.

Without rambling on more, am I the only one like this? Why is the feeling of hype not there?

I think they learned from the Skyrim hype-train that, that much hype can be kind of a bad thing.

I don't know.

Personally I don't care about the Witcher, so on that part I'm in the opposite. The only game I really look forward to, this year, is F4. And I think it's gonna be the only triple A game I love. Since GTAV, MGSV and Witcher I have never played and have no intention of ever doing, either.

I'm not with you. The lack of info is actually a GREAT thing for me. I buy games on release on average once a year (in fact it's been less than that lately); I know what I like, and don't take risks with my cash. It's a rare company that can put enough confidence in me to buy on release. When I do get that rare experience I want it to be as special as possible. The lack of info means that the moment I install Fallout 4 and boot it up I'll be almost blind. That first time experience will be amazing.

I haven't been this excited for a game release since Oblivion.

The GTA series was another one of me hype trains. GTA IV was the only one I never played, and San Andreas was the last time. I remember being so jacked when the teaser site for GTA V showed up a few years ago.

GTA hasn't been fun since SA. Personally I found Sleeping Dogs to be more fun than 5.

How crazy are you about Bethesda games compared to other franchises? That might be it.

Maybe because you are currently very invested in the Witcher universe and don't want to change it, it's totally understandable. It doesn't mean you won't love F4 when its turn comes. I wasn't totally invested in Skyrim either until I finished Deus Ex HR .

And maybe because this time around you know exactly what to expect, they didn't plan a revolution with this game in any important aspect, maybe if they invented something truly revolutionary and hyped it to the heavens and back ( like Radiant AI back in its day  or the newer Nemesis system) then you would be more excited.

I just thought about it, and I think I got through being bored with F4 about a month ago. I was playing through F3 and NV, again, and doing that for a couple of weeks burned me out. And it spilled over to my anticipation for F4. I have slowly gotten it back, though. I just need to stay away from being too exposed to Fallout stuff, and other Fallout games.

I just hope it won't turn out like DA:I did for me; a really boring game.

I think one of the things that has derailed the hype train for me is the major differences between FO3 and FO4. The look of the landscape. The talking PC. Changes in SPECIAL/Perks. The talking PC. Removal of Skills except as perks. The talking PC. Actually starting pre-war. The talking PC. Power Armor as a vehicle. The talking PC. The dog given a goofy unrealistic face. The talking PC.

I mean so far from what we know (which granted isn't much) there is more I don't like than what I like, so the hype just isn't building very quickly, if at all.

Honestly I prefer Beth not exposing too much of the story so we can have that wow factor when we first discover something memorable in game, but I do wish they'd give more details on the new gameplay mechanics plus what's made it over from FO3 & FONV gameplay wise.

I kind of get what you mean, I'm intrigued to find out more about the game once it's out but I'm not counting down the days or anything. I think it might be that I've been burned too many times in the past and with or without a deluge of material I just cannot get worked up over a game anymore; a couple of years ago I would have been totally hyped by Total War: Warhammer or another Fallout and slavishly follow all marketing and pre-order as soon as it was available but I just can't get worked up anymore.

It's not a bad thing I don't think, discovering Witcher 3 was a revelation and gave me a touch of nostalgia, it was like discovering Morrowind all over again - there's something to be said for coming into a game with no preconceptions or expectations and just being blown away.

So, no hype = no problem as far as I'm concerned, I'll probably pick it up over Christmas.

I'm not hyped either - I was far more excited about New Vegas than I am Fallout 4. For me I think it's a combination of things... the lack of information, the fact that I didn't enjoy Skyrim at all and have very low expectations of Bethesda at this point, the voiced protagonist, and the lack of skills. The only thing about Fallout 4 that I have been impressed by thus far is that power armor is actually to scale.

I'm not sure. I know I can't answer that question for you because I'm extremely hyped.

*gets pipe and slippers*

I remember before the interwebz and youtube, my face and spacebook. If you wanted to learn about an upcoming game you had to buy a magazine and the journalist's were actually interested and knowledgeable about the industry. Goodole days.

The answer is simple, we kill the ba--- Because you're just not. You're invested in other ventures, other games that you enjoy. And that's good. You're allowed to love other things.

I liked GTA V for the updated San Andreas area but I still think GTA: San Andreas had the best story, and I usually loathe any plots involving gangs and rap culture so that tells ya something.

Bethesda is pretty much 90% of my gaming. Well, before Witcher 3 :P

Don't forget Micro and Macro details :lmao:

I'm more of the opinion that they don't want to blow all the hype too far from release. Let's have this conversation a week from release and see if everyone is still thinking it's being under-hyped....

As someone else mentioned, they may of learned from Skyrim's hype. Pete Hine's Twitter page was a eyesore with all the people bugging him and insulting him about certain things Bethesda revealed as well as things they kept quiet on (Werewolves, anyone?).

I am all for the wow factor but IMHO it is a risk to take when going in on something blind. That is what I did with Witcher 3 and do not regret it but something like the Omega Ruby version of Pokemon which was hyped to no end but turned out hit-and-miss is a good example.

Dude, I'm so hyped I'm renovating my basemant so that I can have a better gaming experience! Putting in a new ceiling to cut down on noise bleed for the wife upstairs!!!

Projected completion, Oct 10th, full month to set up the gear.

I wouldn't worry about how you feel now, leave it for when you're playing in November.

I almost cried at work yesterday when I found out that I have to go on a business trip on November 10. I was planning on taking the day off, starting Fallout 4 at the chime of midnight and playing for 24 hours straight. So I'm somewhat hyped. I know that the lack of info now will increase the joy of discovery later. Although I'm not the type of person who scours every form of media for constant updates anyway. The SPECIAL videos and little behind-the-scenes treats (the score, real Dogmeat, etc.) are more than enough to whet my appetite.
