Fallout used to let you be gay, Fallout 4 doesn't.

There's far too much made up rage in this thread.

the romances are a minor element and following a set start, you can do what you want.

It would make more sense if the game wrote a scandal story line into the same-six relationship. Make the whole thing worthwhile and keep it in vogue with 1950's theme.

The relationships make sense in today's open world but is ridiculous as it stands.

If the "huge step backwards" has a legit reason (like trying to tell a story of based on Father/Mother/Son bond), why the venom? It's not like they removed it for some nefarious, homophobic agenda (or are you going to make that outlandish claim?).

I get some are uncomfortable with the PC background, but it makes much more sense (to the story motivations) than every romance-able NPC being potentially bisixual.

My guess is the protagonist starts out as married hetro. Your orientation in NV and FO3 were not clear.

"Happy"? Not necessarily. My male character was definitely not happily married and thought the kid was somebody elses (I'm RPing as to why he's not really looking for him). Plus he'd sleep with anything that looked a him twice.

My female is a Nun and only likes her dog and robots/synths.

I do some weird RP stuff. :)

Didn't get that from the banter. I have hags that talk the same way and have even used the same bathroom as me and there is most definitely nothing going on.

So?

The OP is right, this game assumes you are straight. And expects you to be. The fact that you can do a same-six romance means [censored]. Even the perks: Man Hunter is only available to female SS while Lady Killer is only available to male SS. That says it all right there.

It is a step backward. And a surprising coming from this studio. Might be relying on mod to provide this.

Those two perks were the same as F3. I mean, after all FNV wasn't even made by Beth. It was Obsidian.

I'm far more concerned about the fact that Bethesda has totally alienated 10% of all PC gamers (left-handers) than 3.8% of players (homosixuals). Especially since homosixuals can still play the game and enjoy it and, with a little bit of role-playing, explain their character's preferences very easily. On the other hand (no pun intended) left-handers require third party programs to be able to properly play the game. I'm actually a right-hander who uses arrow keys and I figure there are many of us so that actually brings up the total from 10% true left-handers to anyone who doesn't like WASD.

I know I'm beating a dead horse with this subject, but the constant whining and moaning from the LGBT crowd about everything in the world that isn't tailor made for them or "all-inclusive" is even worse. Let's worry about the people who can't play the game or play it comfortably before we worry about the tiny minority who have to exercise a little role-playing flair to justify their same-six relationship with a cluster of pixels on their screen.

I agree! What about left handed PC Gamers! Wait... don't they make left handed keyboards? I swear I've seen them in the office with the numeric pad and the arrows on the left side. Could be wrong though.

On PC? You go! I can barely manage it on my console. I still can't block or melee with my weapon effectively. Too many buttons!

oh for crying out loud, your character has a son and he is integral to the storyline, which obviously indicates a hetro relationship.

Really? I have two grown daughters and I haven't slept with a woman in years. Of course I haven't... oh nevermind.

BTW - knocking somebody up or bearing a child has nothing to do with whether your gay, straight, bi, pan or anything else. It's just a simple biologic function.

Not really, you could be bisixual. And currently you are in a relationship with the other six. Its not a big deal, its the story they wanted to tell, and when you want to tell a story, DO IT. Damn the consequences!

What do you mean "can"? You have a choice? I thought you were just supposed to sleep with everybody.

Hey, it's been 210 years. That's a really, really long time.

I know I'm being pedantic but it's Black Widow isn't it?

On topic I get that people are trying to be progressive and all inclusive and [censored], but the nature of the game is to tell a specific story. In this one the main character was married with a kid. You don't expect books to conform to every's ideal. The character's are what the creators want them to be. I get that this is different in that we are the one's controlling the progress of the story, but we didn't make the story. We were inserted into the story partway through. We have no control of the first half of the book but we can decide what to do for the second half. It's not like Bethesda stuck us with a spouse for the entirety of the game. Our spouse is dead and gone and we can find our child if we want or we can just ignore him barring some conversations. All you have to do now is tell your story, you are now in control and to an extent you can even change the first half. Remember the game isn't set in our somewhat progressive world. It is set in a period similar to our 1950's. The men were men and the women were housewives. People weren't outright gay. Maybe your character had a wife and child to hide the fact he was gay from an unaccepting world. Maybe the child isn't even yours and the wife and your hooked up as convenient excuses. Her for an illegitimate child and you to hide the fact that you were attracted to men. Maybe your character was [censored] and can't stand men so you shacked up with an impotent or gay man so as to be free from the advances of men. Maybe she and a gay lover had an artificial baby created and she shacked up with a guy to avoid the stigma of a single mother. Whatever backstory you want to create you can. You can love someone without making love to someone. Your spouse could be just a convenient circumvention of social stigma but you could still love him for that without being attracted to him. Oh and feel free to mix and match genders throughout this whole thing, however you want it to work.

The point is, you may have been stuck into this storyline but you can make it how you want it to be. You are not confined by it, it is just a blueprint, a beginning. Change it how you want.
