Fallout Vietnam

Story

Before the war, America decided to make a vault. This one would only be knoen by certain Vault-Tec committee, and there was to be no record of it. There was a reason America didn’t target Vietnam. After the bombs fell, the residents of the Vault -- codename Vault Red -- would rise up from this secret vault in Vietnam and eradicate all remaining enemies. It’s was called Operation Red Ravage (bad name I know).

You are one of the (hopefully) many Brotherhood of Steel soldiers in the secret unknown vault in Vietnam. Before the war you all were willingly drafted, and you know what’s happening. You were given rations that provided enough for you to survive 20 years after the bombs fell. The only way out the Vault is through the front door, which was sealed and programmed to reopen at its predetermined date, or the ocean. Your story will begin the day of release.

Once opened, your main objective will be to finish of all Jingwei forces, or Scrappers, and find and kill Jingwei if he isn’t already dead. There is no scheduled evacuation for you, and you have no idea that won’t be getting picked up, ever.

Once he heard about a secret agency called the Brotherhood of Steel and their operation, he left to Vietnam.

----------------------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW

Even though there was nuclear war, America deliberately avoided Vietnam for this purpose. They figured the actual vegetation would make it easier for their soldiers to stay hidden.

Monsoons - These areas are places of fertile ground, where agriculture is often planted. It is also known for its soft mushy ground

Rice Patties - These are places where rice is harvested. these areas are always muddy, as that is the best type of ground to grow rice.

Villages - These places are more sparse than before the war, but the remaining living communists that live there are irradiated, and ghoulified.

Red River Delta - The is the main river path that you will follow inland. Because of the condensation and evaporation, the mist has formed here, which you will need to trek through before you get to the main bases.

The Mist - This is a particular area that is aways shrouded in mist, and where mist is, are also the remnants of the Vietnamese as well as rabid animals.

----------------------------------------------------------------

LOCATIONS (will improve)

Wi Luai Base - Overall base of operations in Vietnam, and the rumored location of Jing Wei, and main base of operations for when the bombs dropped. The majority of is is underground as well as a secret entrance.

----------------------------------------------------------------

DANGERS/ENEMIES (You can name them creatively as you please)

Land Mines - these things are usually coated in thick mud and can only barely be seen by their faint orange low which signifies ‘ready’

Dragonsuit Snipers - There aren’t many of these, as most were made and shipped to or in Alaska. However, there are a few scattered through the trees, ever on the lookout for food and enemies.

Elephants - These giant things are only found near rivers, but they are now defomed and uglier than before. The dangerous water has bleached their skin white, and their tusks have grown

Tigers - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_OLC_7s1u7ho/R9CZKRrb8NI/AAAAAAAAANg/FW2rOtQ-5QY/s400/Zombie_Zoo__Tiger_Colors_by_Zatransis.jpg Most are dead, but the dozen or so hat are alive are ghoulified and incontrollable, often chest deep in mud and slop, they are rarely their true color and often shrouded in mud and dirt.

Leopards - Like their tiger cousins, these all huge cats are deadly. Most never escape from their clutches. Thankfully, they have a large food supply, therefore are often seen lounging in the trees above, but when hinting, will eat anything with flesh.

Yao Guai - Speaks for itsself

Vietnamese Gecko - These are different from their American counter-part. They don’t have a shrilled mane, but make up for it with evil piercing eyes that are said to temporarily petrify al lookers. They are VERY hard to spot since their brownish green color helps them to blend in with the enviornment, but once seen can be easilly shot and killed.

Deer - These animals are ghoulified and deathly, but also brain dead. They are merely a source of food for the other irradiated beast of the jungle.

Monkeys - These ferocious creatures can attack quickly and with force. Thankfully, their height advantage makes then mostly harmless unless you upset them.

Birds - Most tropical birds no longer live in Vietnam, and flew farther south once the bobs dropped, however you will see a few harmless ones here and there. They used to feed on the smaller insects, but because of the radiation mutations, most insects now feed on them

Insects - There are many types, the most deadly being the ones on the ground. There are giant carnivorous (and poisonous) Millipedes, caterpillars, and even Beetles. The ants there don’t spew fire but a corrosive muddy brown fluid that does limited harm to anything it touches in short painful bursts. Some insects can even eat leopards and tigers.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The leader, as I said, will be determined through battle skill.

For the fist time since he'd been stuffed there in Vault Red, Reeves was ready to kill something. He'd lived peacefully with the seven other men and woman in the vault, which was easy because they never really saw each other. Each sector of the Vault was blocked off by a passage chamber, which was airtight and always locked, although there was an alternate path where he could mingle occasionally with the others and get extra supplies. Now that the day of reckoning was upon them, the doors separating the team were unlocked, along with doorway to the outside world. Oliver was now fully armored in his recon suit and affects, and exited the room where he'd spent most of the last five years, but not before taking one last grab at his dossiers and stuffing them in his sack.

The exit room was well sized for the eight people there were. with only a small red blaring light and a steel vault door. Though it wasn't very bright, Reeves could spot a few of the recon troops and gave then a solemn nod. He hadn't really met anyone on his team besides a brief hi-bye conversation which was only done to keep sanity. He also saw the new Infantry as well, in their huge bulky armor. He hoped the entrance wasn't too far underground of they would be [censored] outta luck.

When the door opened, he immediately sensed the new damp air as it escaped into the room, along with an eerie silence. He saw that the actual entrance was not too far ahead, and was shrouded by all types of vegetation. Fortunately he had a knife, unfortunately, knives aren't very long. He walked briskly to and through the vegetation and stepped out into the wide open world, taking in the slightly scorched smell of timber and the coolness of the sea not too far from his squad's position. He waited for the vaguely familiar faces of the rest of his crew as he formulated his speech, because what good leader didn't have one?

OOC: Sorry it took so long to start, but here it is. It took a long time to explain if and how we knew each other and how I became the leader, but I think it'll work.

OOC: Good start man. My turn, I think.

Life.....Something that there wasn't much of in that vault. Jackie hated small places and couldn't wait to get of that hole we call the vault. The area of the vault Jackie spent most of his time was in a rusted, dark cell that actually had moss growing out of it. For some strange rason Jackie liked those features though. Waking up in cold sweat, Jackie realized that it was time for him to get out the Vault. Praying one last time for protection, Jackie smoked a final cigarette and listened to his retro looking radio complete with noobs and a pink neon glow. Being the only one with a radio, Jackie probably had more information than anyone else in the vault. They may be a bad thing becuase he was a hacker and could find out anything he wanted to know.

Jackie was just waiting to kill some communist snipers, its what he did best. Shell shock was something he had witness many people be placed under back home when Omerta would have battles and then the Enclave would come out or some {censored} like that. Jackie walked outside and saw his fellow brothers in arms. He shook hands with them and the one that stood out the most was the leader who had a firm grip. Jackie reached his hand and pulled out some holotapes, he reviewed the names of them and then shoved all of them back in the bag.

Puddles of water were scattered across the ground, funny thing was that instead of blue they were green. Jackie dropped a bullet into the water or waste or whatever that was and watched it melt quickly. He wrote down a sketch of the entire field so he could know where everything was and where to watch his step for. Eager to get into combat, Jackie quickly returned to his squad.

Karina: Outside Vault.

Karina took a long breath of fresh air. Being trapped in a Vault, for how many years? Five she thought, but God knows how long it actually was. The vegetation around them was refreshing, but she knew they would be cursing it soon.

Her armor marked her as recon, and she happy for that. Being stuck in this jungle, with some kind of heavy armor would be a pain in the ass. She fingered her pistol nervously, she was happy to be out, but cautious at the same time.

Five years of waiting could dull a soldiers senses, she had been training every day, but still...She began to do some stretches, a little challenging but recon armor offered you more flexibility than their infantry brethren. She ran her fingers through her hair, she didn't use the recon helmet. It was thin and offered no protection from the entire front, it was just more weight.

She began to sing under her breath, she had been listening to a record before she exited the vault. It was an opera, in Russian. Most Americans didn't like it Russians, because they were communist. But she wasn't and her language was the only thing connecting her to her family.

She watched as a man sporting dreadlocks came up and shook hands with everyone, she did it grudgingly, she didn't like touching people. He walked away and she shook her head, how was he going to keep hair that long, clean? What was his name? Jackson? Jackie? There was one too many Jacks in her opinion.

She resumed singing, it calmed her spirits. She noticed the leader, Oliver, looking like he was about to begin a speech. She waited while singly softly.

Jun: Outside the Vault

It had been a long time since Jun had seen sunlight. For years he had patiently waited within the vault. The days had been monotonous and slow. Life was reduced to a daily routine. Morning to night he would go through training exercises to strengthen his body and sharpen his mind. He had not spent this much time in a vault just to leave soft and dull witted. Discipline and focus guided him throughout his entire life and they would guide him through this final mission.

The mission itself was a death sentence. They were to eradicate an enemy force with immensely more numbers and firepower than themselves. At the same time, the squad had no hope of reinforcements and no plans for evacuation. They were to complete their mission and then… nothing. This assignment of theirs was a one way trip. It was a truth Jun knew the day he accepted.

Jun spent little time with the seven others in the vault. Occasionally he would do hand-to-hand sparring exercises with a few of them. But besides that he kept his distance. He was sure they held their suspicions of him, even if it was subconsciously. He hoped that years in the vault without anyone having their throats cut while they slept was enough prove he wasn’t some sort of traitor.

Jun stood with the rest of his squad, surveying his surroundings. The climate seemed different than what it was when he first entered the vault. He supposed a worldwide nuclear war would do that. Jackie had shook hands with him, and Jun once again noticed the brutal scars on the man’s hands. Were they old war wounds? Self inflicted? Whatever they were they showed he was no stranger to pain. To Jun’s right, Karina was singing softly to herself. He had heard the song before echoing faintly throughout the vault. It seemed like a peculiar time to be singing. But surely she held her reasons.

Jun glanced towards the squad leader, Oliver Reeves. All he wanted was an order and direction, and then he could get to work.

Barry had always been an outdoorsy person and being locked in the Vault had not appealed to him. He had awaited this day for five years when he could breath 'fresh' air again. He knew the world would not look anything like its former self, but he wanted one thing and that was no walls surrounding him. He did perform his training exercises and combat drills to keep his mind occupied and his body fit, but he could never 'switch off' that he was locked underground with seven complete strangers. He thought that this decision was a strange one, a mission like this should be one performed by people who know each others strength and weaknesses but what better way to get to know each others abilities than under pressure.

He made his way down the corridor from his room, to the entrance where everyone was gathering. He hadn't been standing there for more than five minutes when one of his fellow infantrymen shook his hand. Barry returned the gesture with a nice firm grasp just like his father had taught him to do and a thousand names started to run through his mind.

what's his name again? Was it Oliver or Aldo? maybe even Jackson wait... Jack, Jack, Jackie that's it he's the computer guy

Barry snapped out of his thoughts and adjusted his power armour where it was sitting uncomfortably, he envied the recon soldiers at the moment although when the bullets were flying he'd be glad to have it. He turned his attention to the team leader when he had finished his adjustments, he had that look in his eye that every leader does when he was about to give the speech.

here we go the mandatory speech from the leader, he thought sarcastically to himself.

Aldo O'Malley

The day they had all been waiting for was upon them, they were finally being let out of the vault. Aldo was somewhat nervous, but excited all the same as he hadn't been outside in a very long time, so long in-fact, that Aldo didn't even know anymore. He packed up his supplies and slipped his Recon armor onto himself, which fit perfectly as he had been exercising regularly during his captivity, he left the helmet though as he felt uncomfortable wearing it.

The opening of the vault door was a welcome sight and Aldo let out a sigh of happiness as it slid ajar. Finally, we're gonna be free to see what's a-happenin' out there he thought to himself with a gentle smile. He entered the large room, greeted by the sight of the soldiers who had shared the vault with him. The leader of the team arrived shortly, also seeming rather nervous and took a position in-front of the line in which they were standing, preparing for his speech.

Aldo was almost shivering with excitement now. I can't wait to get out there he thought.

OOC: Wow, you started the thread already? Cool.

Jack Nicholes

Jack rushed from his room in the middle of the vault, Todays the day! The sun is shining! Jack hadn't seen the sun in a long time and he was feverish with excitement.

Jack went to the armor and put on his power armor. It was heavy and uncomfortable, and the worst part was the armor recycled your body fluids. Damn, I feel like a walking potatoe

Jack slowly lumbered towards the entrance. Its only a matter of time.

Oliver looked out at his newly assembled team. He easily and quickly noticed Karina as the only female in the squad, and with the recon armor on, her nerves were obviously more distinct than the others. All in all, he counted four scouts including himself and four soldiers, one who wasn't wearing his helmet. Based off of the dossiers, which came with a brief rap sheet in addition to a picture of every member, Reeves knew hat helmet-less person was named Aldo O'Malley. There was a very convenient and nearby treestump which he took advantage of by climbing on it. After briefly looking across the faces and visors of each member he began his speech.

"In case you haven't gotten the same thing as me," He held his dossier in the air. "This is operation Red Ravage, and I am your Staff Sergeant and squad leader. The men -- and woman -- around your are your squadmates, the only ones in this country that you do not shoot. Our main objective is to eradicate enemy forces, and to kill Jingwei if he ain't already dead. Our unit will be efficient and organized, and I will complete my mission, even if I'm the only one alive. Our squadron will move as one, troopers around the scouts. When we break, we move forwards and will operate through these calls." He broke his speech to outstretch his hand, stop, point with two fingers, move, and then ball his hands, regroup.

"The scout's job is to make sure nothing shoots us that we can't shoot back at. For my soldiers, you guys are the obvious firepower, and also mild inventory. You carry most of the stimpacks, which my scouts will need more than you, in addition to some big as guns. I hop you guys have cleaning equipment as well because rain happens and I'm not sure if they rust." He then stopped and looked at the man with no helmet, the only one.

"This dossier says that you're name is Aldo. Umm, I see that you don't have a helmet, and I do not allow that. Go back in that door and recollect your helmet soldier, there are commies with sniper's out here and I won't let you be that stupid. The rest of you troopers close the door and recover it when he come out, we won't be leaving trails."

Aldo O'Malley

The speech went by pretty quickly, Aldo didn't even pay much attention save for the end. Throughout all he heard was a voice-over of their leader saying We're going to be doing one thing, and one thing only, killing Commies. Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred commie scalps, and I want my scalps. said the voice in Aldo's head, as he let a smile curl upon his face with the thought. His daydream was interrupted when he heard the squad leader say his name, and mention Aldo's lack of a helmet. He didn't want to come across as the sort that doesn't follow orders so heeded the Staff Sergeants words.

I'd make a mighty fine fool of myself If I were to disobey this here sarge so soon he thought.

"Yessir!" Aldo saluted in his thick southern accent, and jogged back into his room to fetch his helmet, strapping it on as he made his way back out. He took his place in the line with the rest of the squad.

Karina: Outside Vault

Karina listened intently to Oliver's speech. It was dry and too the point, there job was to eradicate enemy forces and more importantly to kill Jingwei. She took a brief moment to memorize the hand signals, they were basics everyone knew, but five years can leave you rusty when not practicing.

Outstretched hand equals Stop.

Two fingers equals Move.

Balled hand equals Regroup.

Easy stuff. The leader ended his speech by pointing out Aldo's lack of head gear, Karina smirked as she watched the young man run back inside. When he returned shortly, her and the others quickly shut the door and proceeded to cover it with the foliage. Once the door was covered so well, even she had a hard time judging where it was, they began to move out.

She begin to sing softly again, trying to keep yourself occupied. She did not think of what they would do after they killed Jingwei, what the rest world had done in the five years they had been gone, or what had become of her friends. Well, it's not actually like she had any to begin with. She remained alert, trying to familiarize herself with the jungle, so that she may know when an intruder comes near. The jungle was strangely quiet.

Bloody Thoughts....

Jackie thought to himself about what if he was the one to kill Jingwei. His most important thought was why he wanted to be the man to kill Jingwei. At first everything was cool until Jackie finally thought about it, why are we killing Jingwei? Becausese he is a commie? Or because America simply didn't like him? What would be to happen if we don't kill him and just take him prisoner? These thoughts finally made Jackie mad and he decided to sketch the entire layout of the jungle they was in to show possible flanks, escape and entry areas. The drawings were incredibly accurate and looked so realistic you would swear its just a picture.

Jackie walked around thinking to himself and heard Karina singing to herself again. With a voice like that, jackie thought she shouldn't be in a war, it makes no since and then she is the only girl in recon.

Quickly finishing up his design, he noticed a russle in the bushes. He notified a few members in his group and then showed them the drawings.

OOC: Okay, I just had a couple of thoughts that Ant1iv3 might want to consider.. We're all pretty young characters.. and we were in the vault for five years, meaning characters like mine, and An1iv3's must have been 20 and 19 respectively. How did a 19 year old get selected as leader? I think everyone who's in their 20's should get their age bumped up by five years. Also, about ranks, the leader is a staff sergeant, shouldn't he atleast be of officer ranking? Atleast Lieutenant, I mean they're a group of people put in a vault, they must've done something to make them worthy of this, right? I would've given every member a field promotion as-well.

It's just a thought though, if you have it all thought out then that's fine, it's just a concern I had, nothing big..

BIC:

Aldo O'Malley

Aldo glanced from one team member to the next, noticing a variety of soldiers both recon and infantry alike. A woman, a black man, and an asian man stood out in Aldo's eye, he wasn't racist or sixist, but he hadn't seen many people of different races, and the woman looked rather exotic as-well. His senses weren't as sharp as they used to be, a by-product of spending five years in a vault, he squinted as his eyes surveyed the jungle.

"Them commies could jump out of the trees any minute" Aldo mumbled to himself. He had heard stories passed down through the generations of one of his ancestors taking part in a war in Vietnam. By the sound of it, it wasn't too pretty. Aldo scrunched his face up, the tension of being on the lookout compounded with the discomfort helmet he had to wear.

I'll ditch this thing after a while he thought. I'll just say I lost it or something.

Barry scanned his arcs as the squad made their way through the jungle, it hadn't even been 15 minutes and he was already sweating something fierce inside his power armour. Although he was glad that he had his helmet on, the flies were relentless, every few seconds a few would land on his visor and he would have to swat them away.

[censored] flies are worse here than in Australia

He kept scanning until his concentration was broken by someone mumbling, he heard something along the lines "could jump out..." he looked around to see who it was but instead was greeted by the site of Jackie showing something resembling a sketch book to a few of the squad members.

"You, Jackie" He hissed "Get back into formation and watch your arcs, this ain't no art show"

Barry didn't intend that to come out as harsh as it did, but this was a high risk mission and he knew one less set of eyes meant one less area being scanned. He resumed his scanning while still swatting away flies.

"[censored] flies" he mumbled.

Aldo O'Malley

Aldo adjusted his grip on the Infiltrator in his arms and continued on his way when he noticed some words being exchanged between an Infantryman and a Recon soldier. He could barely make out what they were saying but a thought suddenly entered his head.

Where exactly are we headed? he wondered, and decided to ask.

"Permission to speak, sir?" he whispered.

OOC: Holy brings up a great point. When I said they began to move out, it was because no one was posting and we really had nothing to do. But lets make sure nothing gets out of hand. I'm assuming Ant1ive could just pull out a map, to "re-check" or location and were going. This way it seems like we already had a destination in mind. And Holy, a lot of people like RPing young. Perhaps because it's closer to their own age, so they feel more comfortable about it. So although it's logical, lets not worry about it, kind of trivial at this point anyway. That's my opinion

Sorry for such a long OOC without a IC.

OOC: @ Holy, I was fully aware that my age was young. The reason I did this was because I wanted to illustrate through story-telling that my character was more than exceptional in the military, and the Brotherhood had found me first, and decided that since I was being given the first and only dossier, I would lead. I'll explain more in the story, but believe it or not it was actually thought out.

@Ytt, I do have an actual map in which we are going, just hadn't posted it yet because I wanted to tweak the picture to show where we are and where we are headed. http://www.cultureconnect.com/facts/figures/vm-150.gif it is raw though. I wanted to put a marker where we were (Danang), and where we are headed (Hanoi). That is where Jingwei is said to be, and where he regular base of operations was. We will also have to go under the http://cmaanet.org/user_images/hai_van_pass_tunnel__2.jpg during our trek, but that;s going ahead of myself.

Here are some pictures of where we are:

We aren't just aiming pointlessly, I'll post later, in class...

Oliver was walking ahead of the group now, engulfed in his own thoughts. He was kind of in over his head. He had a large team to lead across an even larger traverse, and he was only in his early twenties. It was a miracle anyone hadn't tried to defy him yet. It was kind of scary how he had the highest rank of all his members and he had barely actually killed a person. Yeah he killeda few but fr the most part Oliver did what he does best, hide and sneak.

"You, Jackie. Get back into formation and watch your arcs, this ain't no art show."

Without turning around he rebutted to the man's harsh demand, "No need for the tone Corporal. Don't let me hear you talking to another teammate like that again."

Other than the occasional rustle of bushes and ambiance on the forest, it was fairly quiet in Vietnam. Reeves had seen his first bird. It was a black parakeet with white bleached eyes.

[i]Probably the aftermath of the explosion. The light from the blast was probably too much for his eyes.

He watched it as it screeched in their general direction and them climbed further up the tree using its beak and legs. Shame that the bird couldn't fly die to its disability. Reeves then heard a second voice, "Permission to speak, sir?" The voice from the man behind him must've been Aldo's. It was thick as molasses and curt as a honeydue. His breathesizer on his helmet only made his voice more baratone and robotic.

"Granted," Oliver mumbled.

Aldo O'Malley

Aldo nodded his head, pleased that he had been granted permission. "Well, sir" Aldo sighed. "Where exactly might we be headed first?" he asked. "I mean, heck. I know we gotta kill General Jongway or whatever, but where is he? I read the dossier, and I mighta skipped it, but I do not recollect anything about his current whereabouts..." he completed. "Sir." he added, clumsily, as he continued pacing almost directly behind him.

"Oh, and another thing sir.." Aldo chimed after the leader's response. "Don't you think this mission is FUBAR?" he asked rather boldly. "What I mean to say is, sure we kill 'em, but then what? We don't know what it's like back home. Do we go back, what's the point of even going along with the mission?" Aldo asked, genuinely concerned. Aldo may have been a dumb hick, but wasn't completely void of foresight.

OOC: I had a detailed post and deleted it all. Here we go again, I made a mistake. I have the map complete so that you can see where we REALLY are and where we are going.

I hope this clarifies things. Once again as I said, I had a detailed post then it was deleted. Sorry.

Oliver Reeves

Upon hearing the man's query, Oliver pulled out his map of Vietnam, which he'd looked at countless times in the past five years.

"We are here, and we are following this river here." Se said, pointing while he explained. Then he handed Aldo the map. "Take a good look."

"Oh, and another thing sir . . . Don't you think this mission is FUBAR? What I mean to say is, sure we kill 'em, but then what? We don't know what it's like back home. Do we go back, what's the point of even going along with the mission?"

"I'm not sure corporal, I'm just not sure. But I will tell you this, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't FUBAR. I know my nation, and we aren't that slimy."

"No need for the tone Corporal. Don't let me hear you talking to another teammate like that again."

Barry was startled to be reprimanded for something that contributed to mission security, without even turning towards Oliver He said through gritted teeth "Yes sir."

This is the greenest officer i've seen he's barely old enough to drink let alone piss without permission, he has got to realise this isn't no picnic were going on here, if someone goes down they aren't being replaced and that's one less soldier to carry stuff, watch our back, etcetera.

He heard rustling and fingers hitting paper behind him and a phrase every soldier knew well "This mission is FUBAR" must be showing that Aldo, the map, for a hick he does raise a good point, not much I can do about it though. They say shoot ,I say where

He continued to sweep his arc and noticed a monkey, as long as they aren't commie pets, there's no need for alarm he thought. This one however had a strange domesticated look about it, Barry wasn't going to let it go unreported.

"Sir" he said in a whisper "halt the patrol, you might want to take a look at this." He pointed in the direction of the monkey that just stared right back at him.
