Fallout War Sim game similar to age of empires

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:34 pm

My idea for a new Fallout game is a sim game similar to that of the age of empires series. It can be based at a similar time to the current fallout games. You could follow current factions in a set campaign or maybe create your own and battle against others to control the wasteland. The game could feature many of the areas that feature in all the games as well as some old characters. The customization feature would not be lost as instead of a single character tyo customize you can customize a whole faction, such as their armor, eblem, ideals etc. I think this would be a great spin-off to the fallout series and could offer a great alternative for players who don't like Turn-based or FPS combat to get into the compelling Fallout universe. Do you agree?

Depends on how it's done really but yeah I could see a Fallout strategy game.
As long as it's somewhat realistic with it's factions and mutations and stuff.
Like, no Super Mutant FEV building.
FEV is a rare virus which can't just be "built".

Maybe FEV could be built if you find one of the original labs...

I would play it if it came out. Although I would like it better if it was more like the Total War series than Age of Empires. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9_jumiuXRU videos for reasons why)

Well, West-Tek is blown to Narnia.
Mariposa is blown to Narnia.
And V87 is most likely blown to Valhalla by now unless Lyons BOS decide they want to use their new passage way to get some juicy tech.

yeah but if there would be a RTS style fallout, I would want an opportunity to control the Master's faction....

Maybe the game should be considered non-canon to allow more flexibility.
I'd still buy it.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. It would allow for many factions who in-canon would never meet each other (due to time or distance reasons) to battle it out. I'd definetly buy it.

I'd love to play as the Master and fight the Vault Zero Robot Army... Or play as the Fallout 2 Enclave vs. the Mutant Liberation Army

Yeah I agree, we could do without the economic side of age of empires and it could be military based like total war, also it agree with the idea of aming it more flexible by not being directly rtelated to the current factions.

I agree with Lt. Andronicus. I would want it to be more like Total War. I don't see how it could be done.

Well the mod I'm working for Rome: Total war is going to have the west and east part of the U.S. (If I finish it that is.)

The Master/Robots/Creatures are the non-playable factions reskinned, and CL is Rome (since most of the time you get raiding missions in it.) and Egypt/Selucid will be the NCR.

I will have to heavily edit the campaign map though.

When it comes to producing troop and building the buildings need to produce those troops, how would that work? NCR and Legion are the only factions that build. Mutant factions can't make more mutants and robots can't make more robots (unless its the calculator). BoS are also running low on people. It can be done I guess those things are ignored.

It's complicated, but I'm trying to change it so Barracks in the Non-playable's can't build anything, they start out with a number of troops and are basically just flies to people. A nuisance. (A fairly damaging nuisance.)
The robots are going to be calculator so they will have a regenerating one, BoS will be another non-playable, they will have a few places regening as they do recruit people (albiet slowly.).

I am not a professional modder, but I will do my best.

Have you given thought to something like Empire Total war were you don't need to take out the capital city to take the whole territory? There's the capital city but there are mines, farms and other buildings outside of the capital city which can be taken as well.

Something like that could work. Have capital cities but also have mines, old military bases, pre-war ruins, vaults and other buildings. Each give that territory a bonus when it comes to producing troops, arming them, feeding them and the rate at which you advance in technology. Having the ability to build forts would be great. More money and time you have you can upgrade them. I can't remember if that can be done in rome total war or not.

I'm really excited for this... make sure to have the Brotherhood Outcasts as a minor non-playable faction... Good luck and is it possible to post a link to your game when you're done? (I've never played age of empires...

Unfortunatly I do not own that game, It does sound good though, I might buy it on steam, but eh.

Rome TW has the following: Mercenaries (Raiders/Slavers/Hunters), Fortifications (Possible Vaults, Old-war bunkers, Must have unit's inside to keep up.), Watchtowers (A watchtower, and the Generals/family system will be hard to master in the mod, but I could try and make the Family system an election. (I have no idea what the Legion does.)
I cannot produce troops, arm them or feed them, or advance techonology in R:TW, but I may change mod's to Empire if I buy it.

The game could be set later than the other fallout games where the factions are slightly bigger and are vying for full control of the USA. This could also solve the problem of troop production or maybe human factions are only playable and super mutants can be smaller factions.

I think I would have it more like Dawn of War II and Company of Heroes, squad control but not as huge as in Total War. I could never picture wars in Fallout the size of those in Total War, but I could the size of them in Dawn of War II and Company of Heroes, and since they mostly use ranged weapons in Fallout, and you manage small squads of 5-20 instead of a group of 70+ soldiers, and since they use tactics like taking cover behind [censored], imo it would be much better. I mean, if you play with a BoS faction, you won't have that many power armor clad soldiers in the field, and then you go exterminate raider camps at night with maybe 80 people in them, and that's what just one of twenty possible squads in Total War would be. Total War are great games, and huge battles are awesome, but you don't really care about losing men until you lose too many men :P In Company of Heroes (or moreso in Dawn of War II) a squad is wiped out and you get a little sad inside.

I could see Caesar's Legion with a huge army in Total War though, and maybe NCR too, using WW1 tactics. Hehe. Slaughter ensured. But yeah, I'd prefer system similar to Company of Heroes than Age of Empires or Total War. Maybe a mix of them all, though. Shouldn't be a rip-off or "Total War/Age of Empires/Company of Heroes with laser weapons and power armor"

I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to mod those games, as I don't own them.

I plan to reduce the units size by a bit, the BoS is a minor non-playable faction so they won't have too many units.

I meant if there ever were to be a Fallout strategy game, it should rather be in the style of CoH or DoWII. But if you're gonna mod it, then do it for a game that you have and know how to mod of course. Do it for Medieval II, I have that game ;) Can I ask you, have you played Company of Heroes? If not, it's not too expensive in Steam right now, and it uses a really good squad-control system, imo :)
