So, If Fallout was made into a movie

Post » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:17 pm

1) Live action, Live action plus CGI, or amination (Like a Pixar film)?

2) Time line of the Movie:
Before Fallout 1
Fallout 1
Between Fallout 1 & 2
Fallout 2
Just after Fallout 2
Or something in the Fallout world but not tied to one of the games

3) Made for TV, Feature film, or just available via DVD?

4) Set in North America, Russia, Europe or other?

5) Has to have big named stars or who cares who the actors are as long as its a good movie.

6) Stand alone movie or Triology/series of movies?

7) Major studio or just a good studio?

8) Which is more important:
Story
Action
Special effects
A good balance of the above

9) Story centers around a Vault (like Fallout 1) or outside the Vaults (like Fallout 2)?

1) Personally I would like Live action plus CGI but would settle for a good amination movie if done right.

2) Fallout 1 possibly even do the Fallout 1 game story complete.

3) Feature Film

4) Start with North America (like the game) but hint at other country Vaults.

5) Good actors more important. Big names would be acceptable but they cost a lot. Mark Wahlberg possibly as the main guy. Might be too old for it though.

6) Triology/series. Always plan for more. :)

7) A good Studio if the big ones are not interested.

8) A good balance between Story, Action and Special effects. I actually like most of the Special effects to be the kind that don't overwhelm the story.

9) Centered around a Vault for the first movie. Then the rest are about the world at large.

1) Well Any of these as long as it's good quality.

2) I'd like to see it before Fallout 1. Just right when the war started.

3) Feature film, obviously..... just don't know if it'd have enough audience for it to be possible

4) Hmmm I should say USA, but as I mentioned in pt 2, it would be hard to describe background of the war just by looking at North America

5) Of course everyone likes to see good. Well-known actor... I'd see there.. Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis? Hah I got carried away xD

6) A single movie but with an ending allowing a continuation (doh, Fallout Universe allows many movie settings anyway), depending if people would like to see more

7) Same as Dave said.

8) For me the story is the most important, although I guess that it'd be just boring if it'd be unbalanced.

9) As I mentioned the movie would show the beginning of the war, before people went down into the Vaults. Maybe it could end with them getting inside.

You guys might find this very funny! I contacted "the B word" before their big release "hint, hint". I was writing a screenplay. Took them 13 hours to respond with threats of lawsuits along with an official signed .pdf file with the threat. I was like....um, kkk!! that was my response. So if there is a fallout movie-I don't think we'd like it!! head's up: there is a tv miniseries in the works

haha so typical of them. always aggressive and always threatening. if i had a lot of money id buy them and fire them all then merge with gamesas. yay. but i dont... so question is: how do we make a lot of money? So youre telling me FO3 is better than the first two? Okay i respect your opinion. Can we step outside for a sec?

Lots of Post-apocolyptic movies out there already that are easily adapted to Fallout. For Example;

Mad Max (all of them) - Its the future, the world's run out of gasoline, and there was an apocalypse. The reason there's no Vaults or Radiation? It takes place in Australia so maybe by a strange twist of fate, all the nukes hit New Zealand instead. I've never been to Australia so i'm speaking out of ignorance, but isn't the Outback like a wasteland already?

The Postman (with Kevin Costner) - This movie is a radiation-free version of Fallout. With no Super-mutants or giant scorpions though it falls short of the Mark.

Waterworld (also with Kevin Costner) - Substitute radiation for water and this could easily be a Fallout movie, and this one even comes with mutants.

Hell Comes to Frogtown (with wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper) - The main character (Piper) has to wear an explosive loincloth so he can't escape his captors (women who only want his sperm) and he must fight big green super-mutants.

Omega Man (with Charlton Heston) - You might be more familiar with cheerier version of this flick with Will Smith (I am Legend). But the original would have made a great Fallout movie because it embodies more aspects of Fallout. Intelligent mutants, a campy vibe, and an incredibly dark atmosphere.

Anyone seen "the Book of Eli" yet? Not sure if I want to see it at the box office or wait until it gets released to DVD

id say
1. pure cgi if the graphics were as awesome as avatar
2. set the intro like the game intros,a breif recap of the happenings b4 the war then start it off at fallout 1
3. id say feature film b/c who wouldnt want to see a post nuclear apocalypse movie as awesome as the fallout games?
4. if it's set around fallout 1 itd have to be set in north america where fallout 1 takes place
5. big name stars couldnt hurt, but young good actors are a must as well b/c you cant have 50 or 60 something actors running around as the hero
6. id say a stand alone movie would be ok,but a series would be even better b/c all of the fallout series should be made into a movie as maybe 1 giant story like the lord of the rings was
7. id rather a smaller good studio get it b/c the big studios would water it down to something lame and pathetic and would drive a grown man to cry
8. u need a good balance between story, action, and special effects, but of course the spec effects have to rock if you got pure cgi and if there isnt enough action the movie will go at a snail's pace and seem to drag, but if the story if garbage people wont be interested in the first place
9. if it's set around fallout 1 id say it should center around a vault initially and then get away from it in the later films

Well don't forget Damnation Alley if you are going to list some movies

And Resident Evil: Extinction if you want to see an almost prefect copy of Fallout buildings and landscape.

What I was asking was if Fallout was made into a movie. Not what movies would be (or could be) Fallout like.

It is the reason that I would like to see Fallout 1 made into a movie. The Vault, the search, the people and how the hero is treated in the end are just some of the things that I think help make Fallout a bit different than those other movies.

Well maybe I wont be on your topic but...

Director for now only James Cameron...and a smart studio because a lot of movies end up badly like terminator 4...

Anything else from this will be a disaster...and I would agree with anything James Cameron makes, because it will be like Aliens or Avatar a perfect movie...whatever the story... Its better to live 3 days as a Lion, then spend the rest of your life as a hyena!

First off I would like to say that I would probably not go see a Fallout movie in the theaters, I think turning games into movies is one of the worst ideas the 80s/90s every had.

But, if they were to do a Fallout movie I would like it to be:

1) CGI. I think it would be the only way you could make it a decent movie.

2) Don't spend time in the theaters, just make it straight to DVD/Blu ray.

3) Stand alone movie. Sequels are seldom ever good.

4) Use no names for the voice actors.

5) Let it be viewed where-ever people want it, Russia/North America/Europe.

6) Create a new story, be careful if you decide to make it cannon with the games, too many people will burn you at the stake if you mess up any little detail.

7) I like a GOOD story, I could care less for special effects, but they are always good in small doses.

8) To give it a dark comedy feel, I like Sam Raimi. Watch any of his "Horror" movies. Army of Darkness is awesome.

Other than that, I don't really care. Oh and number eight is debatable, doesn't have to be Raimi.

Hmm.
Might be right.

So, I take it that you would rather not in the spirit of this thread tell us what you would like to see if Fallout was made into a movie?

(sigh)

Lots of craziness, good story, animations and gore from I suppose Saving Private Ryan, Avatar, Star Trek? You know good graphics with a good story, something that will make you wanna watch it every time its on tv.

"The Road"

All star cast and all around awesome but for some reason it only had a limited release in theatres. I saw it on the last day at the last showing at the dive of a theatre that was the only place in my state that was showing it. It was worth every penny, sitting in the ancient seats with no cushion left, and having my feet stuck to popcorn and soda on the floor.

See the movie and maybe read the book. It's the most likely post-apocalyptic scenario and what it would probably be like if the nukes were actually let loose.

1) I really don't know which one is better.

2) Van Buren! Van Buren!

3) Feature Film

4) America, and maybe Asia (China).

5) Any great actor.

6) As long as it has logic in the movie/franchise story, I'm fine.

7) Big and good studio, or else it will have budget problems.

8) EVERYTHING!

9) Good balance between those two (Main character should be kind of a vault dweller, maybe he doesn't remember it!) Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

1) Live action and then CGI in the nukes. (if its fallout there is a nuke in there somewhere, maybe a two headed brahmin too.)

2) Time line of the Movie:
Fallout 2, Just after Fallout 2. Together would be perfect.
Show us fallout 2 and how gamesas envisioned its end, so that we know
what the main character decided to do, then go from there.
Catch us up, then show us something new.

3) Made for TV, Feature film, or just available via DVD?
Not for TV, it could get cut from the air, and then the vision of
the creators are rushed and we are left with a butchered story.
a Fallout Feature film brings tears to my eyes just at the idea of it.

4) Set in North America, Russia, Europe or other?
Going off of what I mentioned before, it would be set
in North America, then branch off from that, in fallout
sometimes I was struck not really know where i was,
magic portal? out in the ocean on some coordinates, logged
into a fuel tanker? hell take me anywhere gamesas are the ones
who know what to do with fallout, surprise me! take me for a ride.

5) Has to have big named stars or who cares who the actors are as long as its a good movie.
This one is complicated, for all of the Monty Python references in the games, I personally would love
to see this movie Directed by Terry Gillian, he would do this movie justice, and Who better to do
monty python humor than maybe a little Eric Idle, and Michael Palin? maybe John Cleese though,
I wouldn't advise casting all of the monty python crew left alive unless they each have a fairly minor
appearance and minor role, the more of the crew the less of the role they play in the movie, after
all this is fallout not faulty towers and I dont want them stealing the show, no matter how fantastic
they are. After that, I need actors who are passionate about the games. actors who want to bring
back the fallout atmosphere and show the world what fallout can be. And i want the actor who played
General Barnaky in fallout tactics, he really shines in that opening video. So i want passionate actors
who care about acting well, and doing their best, Big name or not, after all its not the name that
does the acting!

6) Stand alone movie for starters, and dont promise me anything, dont promise sequels.
Dont push release dates, give it the time it needs to make it good. afterwards, make more
when there is more plot more ideas, give it the time it needs, I'm stressing that point, give it
time please. Then make a trilogy or sequel or something else entirely and then make another to tie
all of the movies together, I want gamesas to do to fallout 1 what they did with fallout 2 if they decide
to turn it into a movie.

7) Major studio or just a good studio?
Well, with this one I would very much prefer "just a good studio" and here is why:
I dont want the studio to have any power to dip their hands into what gamesas would have in mind
for a fallout movie, after all gamesas knows how fallout is meant to be. Let the information flow
from the source, gamesas. Pure uncontaminated Fallout. With a major studio comes its set backs,
they get all high and mighty, and start to think their ideas somehow resemble a good twist on a good
name, which is not the case they just want to make money, and that just leads to "hmm what has made us
money in the past?" and then I get a re-skinned old idea like, what was that Oblivion mod to come out?
Oh yes fallout 3 that Oblivion mod... just... a re-skin of an.... old idea. hmm where was I?
So get a small studio where gamesas has the freedom they need to get their pure uncontaminated vision
to the people who care. Make the movie for the people who care, not for the people who have never
heard of the franchise, and just want to sit down in an action film to pass the time.

8) Which is more important:
Story
Action
Special effects
A good balance of the above
Fallout was all about: "what am I going to do?" (optional addition of: "this time.")
Fallout, its about the possibility, its about the choices, Its about the story.
gamesas took the time to add in a trait called "bloody mess". Fallout has special effects, nukes
grey skin peeling off bones, people cut in half by a Sunbeam Laser Gatling.
Action comes in last in a real fallout style movie. There is suspense, their is cunning, do you box in fallout? do you box fairly in fallout? No, in fallout you go down and pick the lock to get the metal plated
boxing gloves, YES there is action, but there is cunning behind the action, there is thought
involved, there is self preservation in the wasteland, you want the advantage.
Story comes first, then special effects, then action.

9) Story centers around a Vault (like Fallout 1) or outside the Vaults (like Fallout 2)?
I Would like to see it outside the vaults, gamesas dragged us outside the vaults more than once
its time to stop fearing that sunshine, as much as it is nice and cozy in those vaults, we have witnessed
the Enclave "evacuating" a vault, and it cant be the only one. The vaults were meant to keep the people
safe until its safe outside, They gave the vaults a GECK for a reason, and its not to collect dust on a shelf.
The story could center around a vault, the action could center around outside, with a goal of getting a
GECK, yes back to where i want the movie to take place in, Fallout 2, show me what happened in fallout 2,
then show me something new, what happened? did I get the GECK, did i save my village, did i keep the
GECK for myself and some of the nice people at the Golden Globes? Show me what i did, and then show me
what i havent done yet.
