Fallout 4 or Wastelands 2?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:36 pm

Just throwing this poll out there for fun. I've just been reading through the kickstarter pages and I'm assuming that we're going to see both of these around the same sort of time - at least 18 months for Wastelands 2 and I guess the same for FO4. Taking into account who's behind each game, Bethesda - FO4 & Inxile/Obisdian - Wastands 2 which would you chose if you had to pick one?

Personally, my assumptions on FO4/Bethesda are based on FO3 & Skyrim, and Wastelands 2/ InXileObsidian on FO1/2 & FONV. It's clear already on the limited info out there that these are going to be two very different styles of RPG. I've enjoyed all the above but having just played through FO1 & 2 recently for the first time I got to say that I think I'd pick Wastelands if I had to choose.

Wasteland 2 is being made by inXile alone, Obsidian donated money but that is it.

And I pray that Bethesda mixes the good of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas together with Skyrim being kept as far away as possible.,

And Wasteland 2 will be very different from New Vegas, it'll have turn based combat and will probably have a much deeper dialogue and cause and effect system.

Wasteland 2. Definitely. I don't believe Bethesda does the unexpected and actually creates a good Fallout game instead of another hiking sim FPS clone-of-their-previous-games with taglines "We're really paying attention to detail... like these plantroots and veiny leafs!"

No. Obsidian will give some design tools (mostly for narrative purposes) and MCA for the project - and possibly few other guys. They are part of the developement, but only helping in the design and writing department.

I hope not.

Really?
I didn't know that. Well it's mainly inXile and the OP made it sound like both teams were putting all resources to it.

I'll take both.

They are going to be different games and both of them will (hopefully) be fun in some way. In Wasteland 2 I'll be looking for good turn based combat, difficult decision making, well written dialogue, and my name in the credits. In Fallout 4 I'll be looking for improvement over Fallout 3 and Skyrim, and, well, uh....an interesting environment with voice acting? Something like that. I don't know exactly what I'll be looking for with FO4, but I would like to see good writing, morally gray choices, interesting characters, and really anything that was in New Vegas.

Wasteland 2 of course.

I don't trust Bethesda, and while I'm waaaaaay more of a Fallout fan than I am a Wasteland fan, it does not mean I'm automatically gonna be excited for a Fallout game.
Bethesda wants to make games that sell, they want to make games you can explore in, they want to make games with RPG elements, not RPGames.
InXile wants to make a game for that fans, they want to make a game with cause and effect, they want to make a game that is old-school RPG.

I can't think of a single reason I'd be more excited for Fallout 4.
Cause Bethesda learned from New Vegas? Pfft, no.
Cause Bethesda might listen to it's fans? Hah! Funny..
Cause Bethesda is going to put distance between it's two major franchises? Right..

I don't trust Bethesda and I never will, now Fallout: Arizona made by Obsidian on the other hand? That I'd be more excited for than Wasteland 2 solely for Legion.

Fallout 4. I was heavily interested and still am about W2 since the 90s. But Fallout 1 upped the bar for me.

And now Wasteland will get a lot of FO implementations, party/combat oriented design aside. Along with Avellone's involvement of coarse.

I have doubts W2 will even outdo W1. In terms of recent works BGS if nothing else outdoes everyone else except for Obsidian in world building, but Obsidian adds the details, not let players "ponder" and use it as a reason to do less work on making the world make sense.

Exploration means a lot to me. Not that W2 won't be good. Except BGS has had a solid record for the last two decades.

And really I'm more interested in FO4 because BGS has recently piqued my interest to see if they reach their "potential."

Plus one's known to be in-dev. The other is a guess(FO4).

Wasteland 2 because Wasteland inspired Fallout. Also there is no information about Fallout 4 and even when we do get info it will be years before it comes out, and it could turn out to be total crap.

Yup, the fans of just killing [censored] whom, as not real fans, are no-longer with us on this forum or in the Skyrim section.

I for one will judge the game on its own merits...
Wasteland 2 is as much of a gimmick as FO3 is only a FO1 and FO2 successor in name to some of us..
I have to see gameplay, now what kind of story we are getting etc..

For now it is simply is a highly publicized projected (!)sequel by a small company who happened to get some (!) support by Obsidian and a consulting offer by Chris.. That's it...

Oh I have a feeling they'll be back when Fallout 4's pointless uninformative CGI trailer is released.

It's fair to compare a game from the 80's to a game in the 10's in terms of amount of content and graphics.

Both games aren't even out yet and you are saying Fallout 4 has better graphics and more content?

Well, since Fargo ain't going for prettying it up as far as I've heard I think it's a fair chance FO4 will look better and have more dungeons.

Wasteland 2, and I've never even played the original....I just have no faith in Bethesda making a great Fallout game, so while I'd like to say F4 just because it's Fallout, I honestly can't.
