Fallout 12 Weapons

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:34 am

Hey,

as Fallout 1 and 2 are canon, do any of you hope that some of the weapons from there show up again?

I am asking because when looking at how laser weapons (rifles and pistols) look in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I am asking myself if they forgot all about the - good looking and functional - designs of Fallout 1 and 2...I mean come on who makes an energy weapon with exposed wiring and cables, which might stuck or get damaged during combat?

Well just something to ponder (I know that many might show up in mods, but I'd love to know how the devs justify it...I mean those weapons (while ok looking) are IMHO a danger to the user -.-)

greetings LAX

Doubtful, Beth clearly wants to add there own distinct touch to the franchise, plus by now there is a whole generation of Fallout fans who just played 3/NV that just raise a voice if they brought in 1 & 2 designs.

Not really. I mean, the Wattz 2000 was a mess, with a lot of exposed wiring to boot. The Wattz 1000 was the opposite; it looked too shiny and futuristic compared with everything else. I like the Winchester P94 plasma rifle, and I do hope that comes back, but the old Sunbeam Gatling Laser just looked like a chromed minigun.

I believe the Plasma weapons look like they are not complete because they are. Atleast in the Fallout Beth gives us, they werent quite fully developed by the outbreak of the great war.

Just give me the M72 guass rifle, put it under guns, and I can die happy.

There are plenty of PC mods that put most of the old Fallout 1 & 2 weapons in Fallout 3 and NV. Canon or not, some of them just goofy looking compared to the Bethesda designs (and some of them look awesome).

I think exposed wiring is less about the original weapon design and more about how to make it functional 200 years after it was manufactured or modify / improve on it's original funcionality. Also, may of the weapons were still experimental or prototypes at the time of the war.

I wouldn't mind an FN FAL.

To get that Bush Wars vibe, know what I'm saying?

There will be no lack of weapon mods. If they aren't in the game to start with, they soon will be.

Winchester P94 Plasma Rifle and YK42B Pulse Rifle. Do that, and I will be satisfied.

Personally I've never understood why some people seem to fawn over the likes of the Wattz 2000 laser rifle. I find it's design unimaginative and boring. They did little more than take a standard rifle form, throw a few wires on it and supe it up to fire lasers. I think the FO3 laser rifle has a much more fitting and appropriate design for a laser weapon. The pointless long barrel is not there. It instead has the blockish body where the laser is generated and the focusing lenses at the end. That is how a laser gun ought to be.

If the BoS in the game turn out to be the MWBoS, there SHOULD be Yuma Flats pulse rifles, and pistols, and Gauss Rifles, along with hopefully a Gauss Minigun. It would be nice being able to electrify enemies again, or turn into bloody piles of goo once the Gauss minigun fires up.

Playing NV modded right now with mods that bring back all weapons from 1,2, 3 & tactics, makes for a much more fun game with more guns to choose from.

Although to be honest me favourite is still the Marksman Carbine from NV or the All American. Just hope there's going to be a similar looking decent assault rifle/carbine

I personally prefer the plasma Rifles from the earlier games, and the laser weapons from the later games. But more than either of those I prefer the gauss Weaponry, but I don't want it to fall under guns or energy weapons, but rather both.

Ripper is way cooler in the early games, and original 10mm pistal is also great (I really don't like the 10mm in 3 and NV), plasma postal/rifle are also good. Really hope one day they can return.

The R91 in Fallout 3 looks a lot like it, especially the Operation Anchorage version

Indeed - I hated those single shot "Gauss-Rifles" (after all: Why does a projectile weapon - and a Gauss-Rifle is just a highly evolved projectile weapon after all! - consume microfusion-cells? -.-)...because no one would make something like that for military use (single shot weapons are out...even sniper-rifles do have a (external) magazine nowadays!), so the design from Fallout 1/2 and Tactics makes more sense!

Well, something that has been in a vault weapons locker (or freshly made, after all the Van Graffs make energy weaponry, as do the Enclave and the Brotherhood of Steel) should not look that way -.- and "goofy" fits with the Fallout theme, there's lots of goofy things around :)

Indeed, loved those weapons, too :) (not to mention that the G11 was a prototype by H&K in RL - it just didn't make it into production because the cold war was over (Germany planed to buy them to replace the G3 Assault Rifle, but the end of the Cold War made sure that the new weapon they got (the G36) was only a revamped G3 (more or less) with a smaller caliber (5.56 Nato compared 7.62 Nato) and a larger (standard) magazine)

I agree - I used one for a long time in Fallout 2 :)

:) Now we are talking! (well, those and the weapons mentioned above, especially the Gauss-Rifle!)

Indeed - as I often use handguns instead of full rifles, too :)

Oh, those things (the pulse pistols - if you bring the rifles, you should also bring the pistols ;) )...love them (they look like science fiction weapons from 50's movies, which is something I really love!)

greetings LAX

ps: Indeed the Gauss-Minigun is something I'd like, too :) (I like the gattling laser - but not the normal minigun (hate weapons with terrible accurracy) - so why not add another :)

My concern is that this doesn't do like Mortal Kombat when they introduced "Build Your Own Finisher."

Now that we'll be able to create and customize weapons, I hope we still get unique or legendary weapons.

And before you say that's not a thing in Fallout and should go away, it very clearly was a thing, as the .223 Pistol was the first legendary weapon of Fallout, going even further than just in-game legendary status and going into full-on meta status, finally being immortalized as That Gun.

Hmm. Well, "gauss rifles" as imagined in most sci-fi/fiction/speculative-weapon-designing, are magnetic accelerators. They have a bunch of wire coils the length of the barrel, and use magnetic fields to shove the bullet out of the gun. Hence, they use energy.

And they tend to use LOTS of energy, in a short amount of time. Which means that most lower-tech designs include capacitors to store the high charge needed to fire that shot. Capacitors need to recharge after firing, so there's a delay before another shot can be fired.

This may not match what a "gauss rifle" was like in FO1/2, but it is the most common understanding of the weapon type in most other places.

And they probably didn't want to make you use two kinds of ammo for every shot (if they even could), since technically metal slugs are also required.
