Fallout 4 wedding ring (possible spoilers)

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 8:47 pm

Im sure it has been brought up, but I dont think any evidence on this topic actually exists at the moment...

So there has been some speculation regarding the protagonist's significant other and the possibility that he or she may have a large role to play in FO4. I know Bethesda announced you emerge from Vault 111 as the "lone survivor," but I think there might be a caveat to that statement.

After watching a Gamescon recap below, you can clearly see at 1:11-1:12 the player character is not just wearing a wedding ring, but its actually equippable. Its possible that this means part of the main storyline could lead your character to be looking for significant others, or family members. The fact that you can choose to keep wearing or remove the ring is pretty suspicious, in my opinion. It just seems too irrational for Bethesda to put an equippable wedding ring in your inventory for it not to mean anything.

I assumed frim E3 that hunting for spoyce/kid will be (what I like to call) the red herring plot at the start, obly to be resolved or intergrated into the "real" main plot halfway through, typical Fallout plot.

As for the ring, I assume wearing it will trigger minor dialouges, maybe even trigger a reaction from any companion you try and romance.

Yay now I can throw it away!

EDIT:

Or, as less of a political statement, pawn it for a nice shiny 10mm.

You may be married, but sometimes you just want a little wasteland nookie on the side, know what I mean?

Perhaps when equipped romance options are different or even locked off altogether, that way you can roleplay staying faithful to your dead spouse. If the ring is removed then romance options become available, informing NPC's that you have "moved on" and are now on the market, so to speak.

Actually, that's pretty good. Similar to Skyrim's amulet to have an easy way to enable or disable possible romance dialogue. Only it actually makes sense.

If you remove the ring meeting your spouse later in the game could be rather interesting.

"Where is your wedding ring?"

A-"Uh, I needed ammo"

B- "I thought you were dead"

X- "I never loved you"

Y- "Where's yours????!!"

I think it most probably is a quest item.

They could have made it so that if you were the ring no romance starts

That's what I've been assuming would be the case ... the wedding ring taking the role of Skyrim's Amulet of Mara to give the player control over whether (and with whom) romance options show up.

Eventually you discover the only way to defeat the ultimate antagonist is to throw the wedding ring into a volcano.

If you pawned it, oops, better go buy it back.

Yeah it does make sense and given they have already done it in Skyrim (kind of) I think it's a pretty safe assumption.

I would cry laughing if the game had anything as remotely old school in it as that. Games used to be so....unfair. I actually miss it sometimes. Most games these days are almost impossible to not finish.

Yeah, but that vertibird that picks you up at the end? Why couldn't they have just taken you there from the start, eh?

Android clones that are frozen can't wear metal objects, it damages the fake skin. Or maybe he took his ring off when he fixed his lawn mover so it wouldn't get damaged, then remembers when you walk through your old house, first quest, find wedding ring. Then you get offered a special item for the ring in the baseball park.
