Nevermind. The "food" was actually low-res bottle caps. Haha.

You still have some on you?
Heh, well they'll be useful.
I feel like an idiot. They were bottle-caps, but because I did it quickly they looked like potato chips. Haha. I've just been playing loose 20 minutes. That's why I've been wanting to get into the Fallout series (the originals). They're three games which can be played numerous times in different ways and they run on my laptop, which means I can play them for loose 20 minutes when I'm out and stuff.
Is Tactics any good? I heard it was bad, or at least by comparison.
Tactics is awesome, just a good deal different to the other two games. As the name suggests, it is more of an rts (although it can be turn-based, if you want) of types and is focused on combat, rather than dialogue etc (while there is still some).
It is definitely worth getting though, especially for the cheap price you can find it for these days.
So what? It's like X-COM? The one they did which had RTS/Turn-based options.
Also, on a side note, I love how some idiots on Metacritic actually mistook Fallout 1 for Fallout 3 and are writing how it's simply a reskinned Oblivion. Although, with regards to Fallout 3 and what Fallout 4 will probably follow with after Skyrim, they can feel a little bit like reskinned TES games. I think I still prefer them to the originals, because I'm not a fan of turn-based combat and doubt I ever will, but after taking the time to scratch its surface I can certainly see what people mean. Combat does feel more tactical, not simply because of it being turn-based, but because you cannot just sit there and soak up hits. I mean, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you can take a hell of a lot of damage!
Sooooooort of, It's kinda hard to explain. The game's base mode is a "continuous turn-based" mode, with the alternative being FO1 and 2's combat system.
Wikipedia has a good description (CTB being continous, STB and STB being like FO1's combat): . In CTB, everyone can act at the same time, and action points are regenerated at a rate based on Agility. ITB is the system used in the original games. STB is a variation of that; each turn is given to a squad. Other changes include the ability to change stance, modifiers for height, and setting sentry modes, which let characters shoot automatically in CTB upon encountering an enemy.
So it's kind of like a mixture of Fallout and X-COM? Sounds weird. I mean, if I catch it on a sale on GOG, I'll definitely pick it up. But, for now, I'll focus on beating Fallout 1 and then perhaps buy Fallout 2 if I have cravings for more Fallout. Is the second game better?
EDIT: Turn-based, but everyone's turn is at the same time? There's also height modifiers and stuff. Basically an improvement on Fallout 1's combat in that it adds some X-COM stuff?
It's more built on the foundations of FO1 with some relatively minor game play improvements, mainly just more content and all that, so if you end up not really liking FO1 you won't like FO2. Also its tone is like that of New Vegas', wacky and all that jazz.
So Fallout 2 is more Fallout 1 with a more New Vegas like tone?
To be fair, they're like $9 dollars on GOG (which is like £5 pounds for me) and that's when they're not on sale. They're so cheap, that even if I only play them for an hour or so as I have done so far with Fallout 1, they're worth it.
I just thought I'd mention that there are a variety of patches for hi-res/widescreen play, many bug fixes, and gameplay/story changes.
No Mutants Allowed has links (or I can provide later after work, if you're interested) to these. There's one combined mod called FIXT that provides lore-friendly (just fixes), non-lore friendly (changes) and custom install (mixed) options.
You'll have to start a new game if you install FIXT or similar mods, though. The hi-res patch can be toggled on and off and is independent of saves.
The gog version is fully playable as-is, but it's probably worth at least reading the descriptions to see if they seem worth it to you.
The low-res doesn't bother me. The only thing which I wish I would have done is perhaps installed the Children Mod. Fallout 1 on GOG is the UK version, which removed all kids from the game so that there are now missing NPCs.
It's not bullets, per say, it's magazine clips or belts in the counter. 1 mag is 12 bullets for the 10mm pistol. The [remaining] ammo is listed in the inventory description of the weapon, and also next to the gun itself on the interface; but it's not numerical, it's an ammo bar graph. To reload, you right click the weapon to switch between actions [single; aimed/burst; reload]. Select reload and press the panel, and the gun loads for 2 AP's.

Are you positive? Aradesh mentions 'no matter how many we kill, there are always more.'
It said in the little box something along the lines of "500 XP for solving the Radscorpion problem" and people are saying thanks when I return to Shady Sands. I just haven't actually seen Aradesh.
I'll probably give it a miss then, since I've got so much to play. Fallout 1 will probably take me until the new year to complete, after all. I'm just looking at which version of Fallout 1 GOG has. Apparently, it's the UK version, which means it's censored and has children removed. That's not too bad, however. It just means I cannot accidently kill a child and get that horrible perk.
Thanks. I'll need to visit him. I've been keeping back saves from the last ten areas, so I can just skip back five minutes to Shady Sands and go talk to him. Will he give me a reward?
Fallout 2 was the only one in which the censoring caused problems, or so Google says, and that version on GOG (which is where I'd buy it from) is the US (uncensored) version.
No. What I meant was that, for both games, the children were removed. In Fallout 1, this doesn't cause many problems and GOG use this version because it actually got more updates. However, in Fallout 2, the censoring caused problems because children could pickpocket you but then not be stopped as they were invisible.
